Jake is a rock star but not the rock star that the media portrays him to be.  He is not a womanizer, he doesn’t do drugs, rarely drinks, gives large donations and visits soup kitchens and hospitals, and he hasn’t had sex in a year. 

Aubrey is a flight attendant for her father’s private charter plane.  She is a 23 y/o virgin who has a strong opinion and isn’t afraid to vocalize it.  Her last relationship was 5 years ago and it was with a rock star who ended up in jail after trying to kill her.  The last thing she wants is another relationship with one.

Jake hires a private plane to travel between shows and he is instantly attracted to Aubrey because of her sarcasm and the fact that she isn’t drawn to his rock star status.  Jake really wants her as his girlfriend but knows that Aubrey is not ready.  He is willing to wait for her and will be a friend. 

Both Jake and Aubrey have personal demons from their past.  Jake’s fear is abandonment and Aubrey’s is fear of trusting and getting hurt.  Aubrey decides that she will try a relationship with Jake.  What happens next is a whirlwind romance.   Don’t underestimate the previous boyfriend’s infatuation with Aubrey.   He is out of jail and intent on finishing what he started 5 years ago.   

The love between Jake and Aubrey may have happened quickly, but it’s deep.  I found it to be a refreshing romance.

“It was the times when I was away from him that I knew we were meant to be together. I couldn’t imagine life without Jake. He helped me. He helped me heal.  He makes me want to be a better person. He gives me strength when I don’t have any.  He makes me feel complete.”

Besides the love and suspense, there are humorous one-liners throughout the book.  Plus there’s a funny granny in the family!

Review: Flat Out Matt by Jessica Park

Our 4.5 star review

I am a big fan of Flat Out Love by Jessica Park and loved Matty.  And yes he is a little geeky and I admit not the typical book boyfriend that I fall for, but there was just something about his geekiness that I loved.  So when I heard that Jessica was writing some of my favorite scenes from Matt's POV I was super excited.  Jessica definitely did not disappoint with Flat Out Matt, and if possible I think I have fallen in love with Matty even more.

Flat Out Matt starts as a prequel to Flat Out Love, with Matt and Finn together.  I loved seeing a glimpse of their relationship and seeing the carefree side of Matt that we didn't get to see in FOL.  Then Jessica takes us through some of the best Matt and Julie moments through his point of view.  You get to see the moment he realized he was in love with her, what really happened on his date with Dana, and how he really felt about the lie that his family continued to live.  One of my favorite moments in Flat Out Love was the "under the tree" scene and to see if from Matt's POV was amazing!

Of course Celeste is just as much a part of Flat Out Matt as she was the first one.  I always loved Celeste and I think she adds such a fun and interesting dynamic to the book.  Some of the moments that she had with Matt will just make you laugh.   It was also great to see how much he loved Celeste but also see his feelings on the relationship that they had.  What I absolutely loved the most about this book was the ending.  There is the bonus chapter that continues from where Flat Out Love left off.  We see them taking their relationship to the next level and Matty is sweet, and patient, and caring with Julie.  And we also got to see a sexy side of Matt, yes I said it, to me there was a sexy side of Matt that you see in this book and it made me love him even more.  The bonus scene was simply amazing, beautiful, and the perfect end to their story.

Fall in love with me, Julie, as I fell in love with you, he willed her. Fall in love, fall in love, fall in love.

Jessica Park has done an amazing job with this companion novella.  We get to see why Matt kept the charade going, got to see his adventurous side and see how much Julie meant to him.  We got to see the struggles that he went through and really get inside his head to see what conflicted him, and the feelings he had for those around him.   If you liked Matt in Flat Out Love you will fall in love with him even more in this book.  My only complaint is that it ended.  This is a definitely a must read!

Evie and Leo were in foster care together during their teen years and they developed a deep friendship for each other.  They were there for each other when the days were hard and the demons from the past came to haunt them.  When Leo was 15 he was adopted by a family and moved away.  On their last night together Leo and Evie profess their love for each and seal it with their first kiss.  Leo promises that he will write to her and will come back for Evie on her 18th birthday. 

"It will only ever be you, Evie."   Those are the last words Evie hears from Leo as he’s walking away.  She never hears or sees from him again. 

Evie always wondered what happened to Leo and had tried to find some information on him but she did not know his adoptive parents’ names and had nothing to go on other than he lived in San Diego.  She loved Leo and was hurt that he never kept in touch.

Eight years later Evie is being stalked…but he’s not a very good stalker and is very obvious.  Evie confronts him with her quick wit and the mystery man tells her that he knew Leo and Leo had asked him to check on Evie.  He tells her that Leo was killed in a car accident about a year ago.  Although Evie has been hurt by the fact that Leo never contacted her, she still feels grief for his death.

“I have been angry and hurt for so many years, but I find that I can still feel grief in knowing that Leo's beautiful soul no longer walks this earth, and the pain in that definitive knowledge is almost too much to bear.”

The good-looking stalker guy is Jake Madsen.  He recently moved to town to take over his father’s company after his father’s death.  He and Evie have an instant attraction towards each other and this turns into a relationship full of hot passion.   Jake is rich, while Evie is getting by as a hotel maid.  Jake wants to take care of her and make her life easier.

“Boyfriend, man, lover, whatever label you like, you can use it, but what it means is that we take care of each other... “

Evie tells Jake about her past, but Jake doesn’t say much about his other than that he will tell her another time.  Jake admits to a past filled with alcohol, drugs and women.  On occasion a couple of women make their appearance and cause some angst for Evie.  Gwen is the number one cause of angst.  She wants Jake and has wanted him for years.   Gwen confronts Evie and speaks of Jake’s past love that Evie will never be enough for him.  Gwen asks if Evie has seen the picture on Jake’s back.   Now it makes sense to Evie why Jake is modest and wear a t-shirt and why the bathroom door is locked when he showers.  Will Evie let Jake explain it or will Evie run?

“Please, please choose me…I will spend my life trying to make myself a person who is worthy of you… I will prove to you that forever is not just a word, not just a measurement of unending time, but that forever is a place where I will treasure your heart.”
 
The author tells the story from present and past tense with the past chartering Leo and Evie’s developing attraction, devotion and love for each other.   I love a good epilogue, and this one is told from Jake’s POV, and it leaves the story finished and happy.

Review and Giveaway: Reaper's Property by Joanna Wylde

Joanna Wylde's Reaper's Property is harsh and gritty and coarse. At the same time it is exhilarating and mesmerizing and exhausting. Horse is part of the Reapers Motorcycle club (Reapers MC). A band of bad ass, hard living, balls to the wall group that deal just outside the law and will kill to protect their turf. He is large, 6'6" tattooed and muscular (and it doesn't take much to figure out where the road name "horse" came from). Marie is an abused woman, fresh from leaving her ass hole husband who finds herself working at a friend's daycare and staying at her brother Jeff's trailer. He's a "computer programmer" for the club. When Jeff helps himself to the Reaper's money, Horse offers a solution to repay the club until Jeff repays the debt. Marie will belong to him; cook, clean, and most important, service his needs-wherever, however, whenever he wants.

The first time they saw each other is the first time they both felt the same compelling force that pulled them towards each other-like polarized magnets.

I must look like a white-trash princess from hell, basking outside my trailer in a bikini to outdated butt rock. I was pretty sure I wanted to get into the house and put on some more clothing. Maybe a burkha.

He smelled like motor oil and sex.

There were times that Horse infuriated me with his "need to know basis" attitude. Marie would try to pry information about the dealings of the Reapers (especially the unsavory, vulgar, anything goes parties)and would be put in her place with a few blunt words.

"But that's really none of your business. It's wilder tonight because there's blood in the air, that's all. Nobody's getting hurt and nobody's here against their will. That's all you need to know."

As time passes their relationship changes and each admits, if only to themselves, how obsessed they are with each other. They come to rely on the other and morph their very different worlds into something both can find acceptable-if that kind of life can ever be acceptable. The secondary characters further invest the reader into the story line, Picnic and Maggs and Em and Max all add their own technicolor version of crazy to the mix.

There are times Wylde's graphic depictions of the "sweet butts"-the MC's groupies; who will go with any of them, do anything they want (and more than one of them at a time), that will horrify and repulse you and make you take a step back and catch your breath. What compels some women to willingly participate and even enjoy what most women would perceive as their worst nightmare is almost too much to comprehend. Some of the acts of the Reaper's are so violent, that the reader may feel out of their "book comfort zone". So you should, and that is what separates a good book from a great one. This is one of the great ones!

Falling Into You by Jasinda Wilder was one of the most powerful and emotional books that I have read so far this year.  It is one of those books that sucks you in from the beginning and you can't put down.   This is my first book by Jasinda and she just blew me away. 

Kyle and Nell have known each other since they were kids.  They have been best friends growing up and now at the age of 16 they realize that they are more to each other than just friends and decide to take their friendship to the next level.  Kyle was Nell's first true love and in her heart she thought he would be her last.  The love they had for each other would last a lifetime.  But one night after high school graduation tragedy strikes and not only does Nell lose her one true love but she loses herself as well.  How can she go on without Kyle in her life?  How can she get past the guilt she feels regarding his death?

Colton, Kyle's older brother was never around much when they were growing up.  He left home at the age of 17.  When he comes back home for Kyle's funeral, he sees Nell and he understands the pain she is going through.  There is definitley this connection between them, but Colton is just there for support and in a way to help her escape for just that one night.

It is now two years after Kyle's death and Nell is now living in New York.  One day while Colton is sitting on a park bench  playing his music he looks up and sees Nell.  And the connection that they have is still there.  They have this connection on so many levels, there is the physical connection and chemistry between the two of them that is just hot.  But they are also connected emotionally as well.  Colton has his own deep, dark issues from his past and his childhood that he has been dealing with.  He understands her pain and her coping mechanisms more than anybody, because he has been through it.  He knows that he cannot save her, or heal the pain.  But he will do what he can to help her to let it all go, let out the hurt and pain that she has been holding in for the past two years.   Nell has been carrying around a tremendous amount of guilt from that tragic night, and afraid that letting go would mean forgetting him.  And while Colton cannot erase the pain of her past for her, he can help her to move on.  

I enjoyed Kyle and Nell together, there was a sweetness to their relationship that I loved.  But I have to say that I loved Colton and Nelly together.  I personally think that in a way fate brought them to each other because they were meant to be together.  They had such a strong bond that was simply undeniable and no matter what ghosts that lingered from their pasts, they would fight them together.  They understood each other in ways that no one else could.  They understand the pain and guilt that they carried and knew how to help each other overcome it.  Their relationship was emotional, and raw and so real.  Their physical connection was intense and hot.  And the musical connection between them was so sweet that it will melt your heart. Colton may have a little bit of a rough side but with Nell he is sweet and caring and oh so sexy.  You can't help but love him and the relationship that the two of them have together. 

 "I'm not just falling in love with you, Nell.  I'm falling into you.  You're an ocean, and I'm falling in, drowning in the depths of who you are.  Like you said, it's scary in a way, but it's also the most amazing thing I've ever experienced.  You are the most amazing thing I have ever experienced"


Jasinda Wilder is an amazingly talented writer.  She manages to write this story in a way that connects the reader with the characters on such a personal level.  I went through every emotion that they did, as if I was the one actually going through it.  I laughed, smiled and even cried when they did.  There are deep issues that the both of them went through that will break your heart.  But watching them slowly heal and move on together is what makes this story amazing.  It's about two people who are so broken and so damaged from their past, finding each other and learning to live again.  

I went through the roller coaster of emotions with these characters, and yes I ugly cried through it.  But the truth is I would do it all over again.  This is one of those books that will stay with you forever and one book you do not want to miss.  Amazing job by Ms. Wilder.
