Excerpt and Review: 21 Stolen Kisses by Lauren Blakely

ABOUT 21 STOLEN KISSES:

When I first met him I resisted.
Like any forbidden love, I told myself he was a crush, and it would pass.
That was a lie. It never faded.

And I never expected he would fall for me just as hard.

There were so many reasons that should have kept us apart, least of all, the decade that separated us.
Growing up in New York City, I learned early on that love is a double-edged sword.
Love broke up my parents, love took away my friends, and love -- the big, intense, never-been-like-this-before love -- landed me in therapy.
Now I'm heading to college, and it's time to give love a clean slate again. But, can I really start over when he's still in my life?
Because the one man I've always wanted, is also the only guy I absolutely can't have…
And he wants me just as fiercely.

Can I settle for anything less than the love of my life?

5 Star Review by Natasha Gentile

Where do I begin with this book? I’ll start with this, it is by far my favorite love story this year. I don’t think that gives it justice. It was an all-consuming, heart pounding, wholeheartedly beautiful love story between a man and a woman. It was also a story about acceptance, forgiveness, sacrifice and knowing the difference between right and wrong. Even if the only things you have ever known are lies.

Meet Kennedy, a seventeen year old soul. When most 17 year olds are going out attending proms she is trying to right her wrongs. She has been a pawn in her mother’s social games for years.

Yes, I am that girl. The messed-up, mixed-up seventeen-year old child of well-to-do divorced parents who sees a shrink in Manhattan. It’s a bit of a caricature, and caricature is something I aim to avoid in life.

Lies -that is all she has every known; it’s what was instilled in her, protect the one you love by lying. Until l him.

I drink none, and instead I run my finger absently along the rim, wanting one thing, wishing I could want nothing. But I can’t.
I want him.

What starts off as a friendship between two people, slowly turns into something else. Something that they both know isn’t good, something that they both know shouldn’t happen, but something they know they can’t fight. It is a force greater than them.

His eyes meet mine. His are dark blue, the color of the dawn before the day takes over. They give me my answer when he doesn’t look away, and my heart tries to spring free of my chest and bound over to him. Being in the same space-even with him so many feet away-is hard. So hard. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Noah had everything that he thought he wanted. A great job at a respected talent agency, good friends and most of all a friendship with his biggest client-Jewel Stanza's daughter. A daughter that understood him like no one else. A daughter who laughed with him, shared his interests and most importantly, who loved him.

But before she can give herself to him wholeheartedly she decides to seek forgiveness. Forgiveness for her wrongs. In doing this she decided that she will send the people that have been touched by her mistake a love letter anonymously.

This is where the story took my heart and never gave it back.

This beautiful soul made a list of all of her mistakes, tracking down each and every person she touched, leaving them beautiful love letters.

The most beautiful one however was her own. It was to Noah and it was the story of her love for him and his beautiful kisses.

I’m here because of a letter.
Not the kind with hearts and lipstick marks, but the kind that takes your breath away. I wanted it to have that effect on him, and so it was the story of how we fell in love told through our kisses. Both kisses we’d had and kisses I wanted to have, and places I wanted to kiss. Places like Paris and Amsterdam, along the river or by the canal, or Kauai under waterfalls.
It was an epic love letter, and it was all I’d ever wanted in my life-to feel that kind of epic love.

What happens when you start off a love affair with a secret? For some it clearly means nothing, but for someone that wants to purge all her secrets away- it burns everything that she is.

Kennedy was pushed to grow up way before her time, but that is actually a gift. A gift to know what love really is. A gift to know when something is right and when it is wrong and it is with this gift that she understands how to love.

This story has left a mark on my heart as one of the purest love affairs of all time. It is rare these days that you get a story that is purely about one thing and one thing only- Love. Thank you so much Lauren for bringing this love into my life.

EXCERPT

She started to walk to the door, and some kind of emptiness took hold, rooting around in my gut at the prospect of her leaving. I reached out and placed a hand on her arm.
“Are you going to come by again?” My voice was crackly and dry. I wasn’t sure if I should be asking the question. But I was doing it anyway.
“I don’t want to complicate things,” she said, her voice low and breathy.
“They’re already complicated,” I said, my chest rising and falling as it did when I was a little bit nervous. Right then, I was a lot nervous.
“I’ll come by. Do you have papers for me to have signed?”
“No.”
She smiled, reeling me in more. “I will, Noah.”
“You know that no one calls me Noah, right?”
“Are you saying you want me to call you Hayes again?”
I shook my head. “No. I want you to call me Noah.”
She stepped closer, the distance between us halving. She was so near, I could have wrapped my arms around her and tugged her in for a kiss. I clenched my fists, as if that would keep all my desires in check. The matter became more complicated when she whispered my name once more, letting it slide off her lips, like she’d lingered on every letter.

Review: Revue by KM Golland

He was on a collision course.
… I had paved my way
He answered to no one.
… I respected authority
He wanted me.
… I despised him
He didn’t take no for an answer.
... NO!

When freelance photographer, Corinne Lee, is required to visually document the nationwide tour of Wild Nights Male Revue, she finds herself in a world of near-naked, testosterone-fuelled men on stage—not her photographic muse of choice. She also finds herself in the arms of Josh, the revue’s star performer.

Josh Adams thrives on the limelight, the stage and, most of all, the attention of women who endlessly throw themselves at him. He dances sex, speaks sex, breathes sex … is sex! Josh lives for sex, but never with the same woman.

When both opinionated and headstrong characters are closely thrust together in a lust-ridden and sexually-charged environment, which of the two will break first?
Will Josh realise that Corinne could be the exception to his ‘no strings’ rule? Or will Corinne let go of the fantasy of finding Mr One and Only?

4.5 Stars
Review by Lisa Kane

Having read almost everything KM Golland has written, I am more than familiar with her often snarky, witty, clever style. But in Revue she has kicked this up a notch with her character, Josh Adams. He is the star performer for Wild Nights Revue, a male revue show. This guy brings new meaning to bag them and leave them hanging for more. In fact, our heroine, Corinne's  first view of him is his intense screwing of one of his groupie up against a vending machine. (Not sure if they made a selection for any of the treats in the machine) And when our hero is finished, he eyes up Corinne and asks her, "Want to ride my cock like this bitch just did?" (he's one suave guy isn't he?)

Corinne is stuck with being the revue's official photography as they make their way across Australia for the next 3 months. Her brother accepted the job, then got hurt and Corinne has no choice but to agree to do it. She prefers photographing landscapes versus people (they give her far less trouble) but that kind of work doesn't really pay the bills for their business.

The other guys in the revue are a little less full of themselves. One in particular, Brad, has a protective instinct when it comes to Corinne. These guys are luscious, built like gods and totally lickable. But they work hard to keep those hard bodies and most of them view this as a just a job. But not our man Josh; getting the next gorgeous girl under him is a way of life. As he tells Corinne:

"Why do you f#*k so many women?"
"Because I like to."
I stared at him. "That's it?"
"Yep. I like to F#*k. I like to f#*k women. They like to f#*k me. So...we f#*k."

Their love hate relationship spices things up. Josh is determined to have sex with Corinne before the tour is over; she insists that in spite of her lady bits wanting nothing more than to spread wide for Josh, she won't become one of his conquests. She senses there is more to him than just that gorgeous face and chiseled body made for sex. But is he worth ending her year long dry spell for?

"There's more to life than sex, you know."

Yeah, there is, sweetheart. Sex with me." Josh leaned closer, his breath hot on my neck. "And you're gonna experience that real soon."

Eventually ying meets yang and Corinne isn't going to keep fighting this losing battle. Josh seems to be changing little by little. He still insists love is a fairy tale (there's a whole heart breaking story on where that belief comes from) but can he go the distance? When he gets hurt he tends to self medicate with vaginas. Is that going to happen this time?

"I'm sorry, I...I didn't m-"
"Josh, don't I said exhausted. "There's no point. This was never going to work. We barely know each other, and jumping straight into...f#*k, I don't know, into something...was just stupid."

Oh boy, cue my eyes getting wet.

There are lots of angsty moments in this story. Some really sad, gut wrenching ones too. Both Corinne and Josh make some stupid, hurtful decisions and the light of day makes them regret and question why they do the things they do. I found this book to be a pleasure for my reading eyes. It's funny when it needs to be, hot to the point that you may want to break out your own BOB (too much info?) and poignant when you need to remember that sometimes the heart can change even the most pig headed mind. This is one recommended read from me!

Love should be pain immersed in comfort. It should be fear wrapped in courage. It should never be easy.

Excerpt: The door flies open, slamming against the inside wall, and momentarily startling me. “What now!” At first, I’m caught off guard by her irate greeting, but as she stands frozen in the doorway, her eyes grow wide in surprise, and a blush shadows her ivory face. Damn. She’s beautiful. I have to bite my lip to stifle a grin. “I’m sorry. I thought you were somebody else.” Her tongue darts out and licks nervously at her lips. An intense desire to capture it between my teeth and slide it between my own lips spikes through me. Leaning casually against her doorframe, I cross my arms over my chest. “I heard something crash. Is everything okay?” Her shoulders drop slightly, and her hard eyes soften, meeting mine. “Yeah, everything’s fine. A friend made me angry, and I threw a vase at the wall.” This time I can’t hide my amusement. “You either have a very short fuse or an asshole for a friend.” The tension slips further from her shoulders, and she smiles at my remark. “It’s the latter.” Shit, so maybe model dude is her boyfriend. What am I doing here? I don’t have time in my life for shit like this, but I also can’t seem to make my feet walk away. “Well, I can promise I’m not an asshole, and I’m not doing anything tonight. Do you want to grab a drink?” She looks down at her watch and bites her bottom lip in contemplation, her hesitancy making me uneasy. “Come on, Green Eyes, it’s only nine o’clock.” Pathetic, I’m begging a girl I should be running from to have a drink with me. Those eyes instantly meet mine and are filled with a sudden shine that wasn’t there a minute ago. “Do you want to come in and watch American Ninja Warrior with me?” The request comes so quickly I almost miss it. In fact, the only part I understood was that she wants me to come inside her place. Hell yeah, I’m coming inside. But first, I need to know what we’re doing because at this moment, what my dick hears is ‘coming inside’ and it has its own idea as to what that means. Suddenly she’s laughing, and it’s awesome. Her entire face brightens, and her eyes twinkle like I’ve never seen. Her happiness is settling in my chest and making me grin at her like a damn schoolboy. “You have no idea what I’m talking about do you?” Her laughter subsides and leaves her with a smile that is . . . stunning. “No clue. Only that you asked me in, and yet, I’m still standing in your doorway.”
