Nine Letters is one of those books that deals a very heartbreaking moment in one’s life.  It is a story about real life, real heartbreak and real emotions.  For Luke, the day he lost his wife he lost everything.  She was the love of his life and he is not sure how to cope with it all.

It has only been a year since her death and he has found that for the last 12 months he has drowned himself in alcohol and meaningless sex.  On the anniversary of his wife’s death he finds a package on his doorstep.  It is a package that contains nine letters, all of which are from his wife.  If there was one person who knew Luke better than anyone it was Emily, his deceased wife.  She knew that even a year later he would be having a hard time dealing with her death and he needs someone to help him pick up the pieces of his life and move forward.  He needs to learn how to live again.  With the help of his wife and her letters he slowly tries to do just that.

Along the way as he follows his wife’s letters and her instructions on how to move forward he meets a really great girl named Rae.  He likes her but he feels so guilty to even go there with her.  But Rae has her own issues as well.  She was burned in the past once before and is afraid to trust again.  Rae and Luke’s relationship developed at a very slow pace given their history and the fact that Lue was still trying to cope with his loss.

I want to say that the writing in this book was excellent.  But for me personally it was very different than what I had expected.  This is more about a man who is trying to overcome his tragic loss.  It is about a man who is still in mourning and trying to find his way again.  Along the way he meets another woman who he is falling for but I didn’t feel like that was the main plot of this story.  I wished w were able to see more of Luke and Rae’s background as well as their relationship develop a bit more or a bit earlier in the book.  Overall I really did enjoy this book and the writing.

Wow!  Just Wow!!  This is exactly how I felt when read the very last page of Dare Me.  I finished it yesterday and I am still thinking about it, especially Holt Hamilton, because that man is just too hot for words.  And not only is he hot but he is sweet and loving and just simply amazing!!  Totally swoon worthy!! When I first read the blurb for this book I really wasn’t sure what to make of it to be honest.  I am not sure why but I thought it would be very different from what it was.  And I am so glad that I was wrong because this book was amazing.  It was emotional, and fun and sexy all in one.

Saige Phillips had the perfect life until the age of 13 when it all started to crumble and a tragic incident left her broken.  In the prologue we see just what happened and my God my heart broke for this little girl.  I can not imagine seeing what she did at any age let alone as a kid.  But 10 years later Saige is still trying to get over the past.  She has moved back to Chicago where she has a new job that she loves and new friends.  One night after work her and her friends go to a bar and they play a little game of truth or dare.  That one game, and that one dare changed Saige’s life in a way she never expected.  But it also changed Holt Hamilton’s as well.

Holt Hamilton is Saige’s boss, he actually owns the company that she works for but is not her immediate boss.   When he hired her there was something about her that caught his eye.  She is smart and beautiful and he cannot stop thinking about her.  Her friends dared her to ask him out for a drink.  She accepted that dare.  When Holt Hamilton accepts her offer,  where will things go from there?

I don’t want to give anything away so let’s just talk about Holt….lol  Holt is one hottie and he has quickly worked his way into being one of my top book boyfriends.  At times he can be a little bossy but in a totally sexy way.  but was also so sweet and just wanted to be there for Saige.  He wanted to break her walls down, be there for her when she needed comfort and just wanted make her as happy as she made him.  He is not one for relationships but Saige changed that.

I loved Saige and together her and Holt were just perfect.  I felt for this girl so much and what she has been through.  I loved the friendships that she created with her co workers and how cute her and Holt were together.

What I loved the most about this book though was that there was no unnecessary drama.  There was definitely some angst in there.  Holt was hiding something and as the reader you don't know what his secret is but you know and feel that there is something that he is not telling Saige.  And you were just waiting for that moment to come when the truth comes out. I had my suspicions about what he was hiding but that did not take away from it in any way at all.  Because in that moment I felt everything these two felt.  In some way it still surprised me even though I had suspected it.  From this moment on is when the tears started to form.  I felt so sad for both characters.  For Saige because of the pain that the memories from her past brought her.  And for Holt because I could feel just how much he loved her, and how much it hurt him to see her hurt.  This book brought out all of the feels.  I laughed with these characters and hurt with them.  There were some fun moments and not just between Holt and Saige but with her co workers as well.  They were such a great addition to this story.  There is one person other than Holt that I fell in love with and that was Saige’s uncle Brent.  I do not know what it is about him but I just loved him and I am really hoping that he gets his own story.

I cannot express how much I loved this book.  I did not want to put it down an even the next day I am still thinking about these two characters.  Amazing job by Ms. Shea!!

Blog Tour Review: The Enforcer by Kele Moon

They are the lost boys.

Sons of mafia mistresses expected to keep their fathers’ sins in the shadows. The lucky ones are forgotten.

Unfortunately for Valentino “Tino” Moretti, his brother Nova was too smart to be forgotten, and too valuable to risk when he resists a life of crime. So they punished Tino instead. Forced into the cruel world of the Sicilian Mafia at twelve, Tino was broken before he was old enough to know the man he was supposed to be. Now he’s what the mafia made him.

The enforcer.

A trained killer forbidden to love, but he did anyway. He's loved Brianna all along.

Raw and beautiful, their romance was all consuming and far too dangerous. They were ripped apart a long time ago. It’s not until the borgata puts out a hit on her that Brianna falls back into Tino’s arms, churning up their dark past and unraveling all the Moretti brothers’ closely guarded secrets.

This isn’t the end of the story. It’s only the beginning, and it is brutal.

There’s a reason enforcers are considered too deadly to love.

Review by Jen Skewes

The Enforcer is the third book in the Untamed Hearts series and Tino's story.  I could not wait for this book.  The first series that I read by Kele moon was the Battered Hearts series. It was that series that introduced us to this spinoff series and to these characters that we fell in love with.  I love Tino but when I read The Slayer I fell for him even more.  I loved the friendship that he had with Chuito and his relationship with his brother Romeo and his wife and how much he adored their twins.  The Enforcer is the story of Valentino Moretti story and the one girl that he has loved since he first laid eyes on her as a little boy.  I could not wait to find out everything I needed to know about this man.  And Kele Moon did not disappoint.

The Enforcer picks up right where The Slayer ended.  Brianna is the girl that Tino has loved since he was a young boy.  She is also his sister Carina's best friend. Its been four years since they have seen each other. But when Brianna is in danger the first person that her and Carina run to is Tino.  It's been four years but the love they have for each other is still there and still burning.  Tino takes off with Brianna to take care of "things" in order to keep her safe.

This is where we get to see everything there is to know about Tino.  The story then shifts to the past where we meet a little 10 year old boy who has lost his mother and his older brother and protector Romeo, is sent to prison.  Him and his other brother Nova are sent to live with their father and step monster. They are two people who could care less about these boys and who in no way should even be parents. But while living there Tino first learns that he has a sister, who he grows close with. But that's not all he learns. He learns how to live in the world that his father lives in.  A world filled with crime, mobsters, and enforcers. He doesn't just learn how to live n it though, he learns how to survive.

Tino loves his brother and sister and will do anything to protect them. Even at the young age of 12 he knows what he needs to do to keep them out of danger.  And seeing what he did just broke me. I loved this little boy who carried the weight of the world on his shoulders, who was so loyal and protective of his siblings that he did what had to be done. Even if it completely broke him in the process. He went from this little boy who lost his mother and brother to a boy who has no choice but to grow up quickly,  with no chance of ever knowing what it was like to be a normal teenager.  No matter what it cost him he would protect his family.

Tiny captured me from the start.  Honestly that man just stole my heart even as a little boy.  My god what he went through just ripped me apart.  I wanted to hug this little boy and take him away from the world he lived in. Seeing all that he went and lived through in his past makes you understand the man that he is today.  And I loved him even more for it.

With all that he went through the positive in his life were the people who truly loved him. One of them being Brianna. I loved this girl so much. I loved her because of how much she loved Tino. She didn't care what his last name was.  It didn't scare her nor did she love him because of it. She never judged him for the things he did and I think she loved him more because of it.  She loved Tino Moretti because of the amazing person he was and because he made her happy.

This story was fantastic. It was a little long and I will admit at times it felt like it dragged a bit but I still loved it.  Ms Moon needed to tell this story as she did so that we can truly understand the man who is Tino.  It was at times heart wrenching but felt so real.  I felt the pain that both Tino and his brother Nova went through. But I also felt the love and passion between him and Brianna.  Every thing about this story felt real and passionate and intense.  In the end Ms. Moon completely left me hanging and wanting more.  And yes there is a second book but that's ok. It's just more of Tino for me to love.  Another amazing job.

Excerpt

Tino dropped his head back against the headrest. “I’m tired, Bri. I’m being an asshole to you because I’m just so tired, and I’m sorry about that.”
“Me too. Very tired,” she whispered into the night, realizing he was the only other person who understood. Tino lolled his head to the side and stared at her for a long time after the confession, long enough to make her uncomfortable. “What?”
“Nothing.” He shrugged, his gaze running over her again, hot and possessive. “You look healthy too.”
“I’ve been doing CrossFit before the shows. Helps keep me nimble for the more physical scenes.”
A smile quirked at the corner of his mouth. “Do you need help being nimble?”
“There’s always room for improvement,” she reminded him. “You know that.”
“Mmm.” He reached out and caressed her hair, making her shiver against her will when he tucked it behind her ear. “I’m sorry for saying you make bad life choices.”
“Well.” She arched an eyebrow at that. “I did marry a man who tried to kill me. Can’t really fault you for calling it like it is.”
“So cynical.” He sighed. “I’m sorry life’s been mean to you, baby. I would give anything to make it stop hurting you. Not that I’ve had any luck in that department, but if I did, that’d be what I’d wish for.”
“Ditto.” Her voice cracked, betraying her. “I’m sorry I keep running to you to save me. Bad habit.”
“Don’t be sorry for that.” Tino tugged on her hair, forcing her closer. Then he slipped his hand behind her neck and swept his thumb over the fine hairs on her nape. He leaned in and breathed against her mouth. “Never be sorry for that.”
He kissed her like he couldn’t resist, and she eagerly parted to him in an unabashed need she couldn’t hide. She didn’t even see why she should. They both knew this trip could very likely end with one or both of their funerals, but they had this. They always had this.
With a low groan of defeat, he pushed his tongue into her mouth.
God, it felt good.
She had forgotten how much a kiss from Tino could make her ache. The way his tongue brushed against hers. The feel of his fingers tight in her hair. It was like being injected with a liquid pleasure that jolted her awake after what felt like a lifetime of unhappiness.
She wasn’t ashamed of the way she ended up grabbing at the lapels of his jacket, because he was breathless too. His chest rose and fell in sharp, hard pants of need, but he was pulling away too soon with a grunt of denial.
Tino fell back against the seat and rubbed a hand over his face. He opened his mouth, as if he wanted to say something. Then he seemed to think better of it and leaned forward to start the car, leaving Brianna frustrated instead.

Review: Ginger's Heart by Katy Regnery

Once upon a time there were two cousins:
one golden like the sun,
one dark like midnight,
one a protector,
one a predator,
one a Woodsman
and
one a Wolf…
both owning equal,
but different,
parts of a little girl’s heart.

In this modern retelling of "Little Red Riding Hood," the woodsman and the wolf are cousins, and Little Red is the girl with whom they both fall in love.

Beautiful Ginger McHuid, daughter of Kentucky's premiere horse breeder, grows up on her family farm, best friends with Cain Wolfram, the son of her father's Stallion Manager, and Cain's cousin, Josiah Woodman, son of a local banker. Throughout their happy childhood, the three are inseparable friends, but as they mature into adults, complicated feelings threaten to destroy their long history of friendship and love.

Ginger’s Heart

Two cousins.  One girl. Someone wins.  And someone loses.

Ginger is an only child of prestigious horse breeders.  Her best friends are two cousins – Cain Wolfman and Josiah Woodman.  Whereas Josiah is sweet and the golden boy of the community, Cain is the big bad wolf.

Cain consumed women.  He ate them for lunch and licked them clean for dessert.  He turned them from soft, pliant, smiling creatures to spitting, narrow-eyed harpies who hated him.

That right there is why I was on Cain’s side.  I love a bad boy – the temptation  women seek – the wild animal that can never be caught.  Growing up Cain didn’t have the best of familial guidance.  His parents were in a loveless marriage and seemed to stay together just for Cain’s sake.  Cain was a reckless adolescent.  Nothing could hold him back.  He needed to roam and be free.   Meanwhile, Josiah  was living a life of luxury being the only child to a banker and being compelled to marry Ginger at an early age.   Josiah had his life figured out while Cain lived freely.  Cain had no goals to see completed.  Josiah had the next several years of his life precisely planned.  But something goes amiss in his plans and sets his life in an upheaval.  The only thing keeping Josiah’s life on tract is the thought of Ginger being by his side.  Josiah doesn’t know the reason his cousin has stayed away from home for so long is because Cain also is in love with Ginger.  Cain has a huge heart on the inside and he knows that he cannot hurt Josiah, plus he also believes that Ginger deserves somebody with more to give her than Cain ever could.

Ginger is torn.  She has two men to love – one she loves as a best friend, and one she loves from a distance.  One loves her wholeheartedly and the other man loves her from a distance.   One will wait for her to give her heart to him.

“My heart belongs to you.  If you’re ever ready to give me yours, well, you come find me, darlin’.  I’ll be waitin’.”

I felt sorry for Ginger being in the predicament that she was.  Her upbringing was that of something you would see on TV with the southern Missus controlling everything.  Ginger didn’t want that life – she wanted to be free.  She didn’t want somebody telling her what to do and being something similar to a show horse – she wanted to experience life however dirty it may get her.   The person who lets her be free is Cain, but Cain has hurt her in the past.

“This is the last time you will ever reject and humiliate me.  I promise you.”

Even if Ginger forgives Cain for his past behaviors, Cain would never ever move in on his cousin’s love.   There is no easy solution for love – sometimes you just have to take a risk.

“Jump to the one you love the most, darlin’.”

The story did seem to take a while to get going.  The first few scenes were told from all three perspectives so it was a lengthy process while a lot of repetition.  It was enjoyable to discover the traits of the cousins through their own thoughts.  The story really took on a faster pace once it hit about 50% -- and by faster I mean balls to the wall.  Whoa Ms. Regnery – you took me on quite a ride and I will be anxiously awaiting your next work of art.  So as not to confuse any readers, all books in her Fairytale series are standalones with no crossover characters.
