Blog Tour: The Brightest Sunset

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.
Bullshit.
Words destroyed me.
“I’m sorry. She didn’t make it.”
“Daddy, he can’t breathe!”
“There’s nothing more we can do for your son.”
Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.
Lies.
Those syllables and letters became my executioner. I told myself that, if I didn’t acknowledge the pain and the fear, they would have no power over me. But, as the years passed, the hate and the anger left behind began to control me.
Two words—that was all it took to plunge my life into darkness.
“He’s gone.”
In the end, it was four soft, silky words that gave me hope of another sunrise.
“Hi. I’m Charlotte Mills.”

Review by Jen Hagen

This was a wonderful sequel filled with several realistic moments that had my soul breaking.  Charlotte is a very strong woman and Porter is a man we could all adore.

Porter and Charlotte have both found the deepest recess of the earth, fought their way back, but still occasionally fall into the darkness when life becomes too much.   Left alone in their thoughts the world becomes black, but together they find the light.  They understand the darkness of each other; but what happens when the darkness consuming them is the indirect result of the other??  It’s a whirlwind of emotions for them.  This is where the strength of their love will come to test.  Questions and accusations will devour their decision.  They will need to defend themselves to everybody.

“He’s making me happy.  He’s making me laugh. And, when I’m crying, he makes me feel safe.  He makes me feel loved.  He’s reminding me that the world is full of light even when you can’t see it.”

Porter is hurting just as much as Charlotte.  He has lost love before, and he is not about to lose it again.  He fights for those he loves, and he fights with his whole heart.   But this time it’s not just about the woman he loves that he will lose; he is fighting for his entire universe. He just needs the biggest supporter on his side to change the direction of the fight.  It’s a very controversial supporter, but Charlotte is the only chance he has at keeping everything he holds close intact.

“It’s always darkest before dawn, Porter.  We just have to wait a little while longer.”

Porter and Charlotte are perfect together.  They understand the heartaches and the darkness that surround one another.  There is nobody more perfect together than they are.  They have each fought to see the light and with each other the light never goes out.  They need each other…but can their love for one another erase emotional pain of the past?

“We can do this, Porter.  And we will do this – because there is no other choice.”

This was a wonderful and unique storyline.  Charlotte was placed in a tough situation.  She was very contemplative with her decision and did the right thing.  Porter was a solid male who showed his vulnerability to make him an even more adored character.  I loved the author’s writing.  She made every word and action performed by the character’s pop out of the page.

Big Shot - About book

To believe one person can change your destiny sounds absurd. But it happened to me… twice.

Ten years ago I had no idea what I wanted out of life, until I met Hannah Michaels. She was a computer-engineering student ready to conquer the social media world, and I was smitten. Even though I knew she was taken, I had to have her.

Being the big shot that I was, I didn’t let her status stand in my way. It wasn’t long before my hands were on her thighs and my name a whisper on her lips. This smart, sexy girl inspired me to greatness, helped me grow into the kind of man I never knew I wanted to be. The man I am today.

Too bad I hadn’t grown fast enough to keep her.

Moving on wasn’t easy, but I knew I had to let her go. Eventually, I found someone to share my days and nights with, and together we had a daughter. My life was nearly perfect until my world turned upside down.

A single father has challenges, and one of those is learning how to calmly deal with your child coming home in tears. I had no idea the day I pounded on my daughter’s classmate’s door, Hannah would be the one standing on the other side.

The wild, burning desire that rushed through my veins was unwanted, and yet impossible to ignore. Letting her in meant so much more this time around. Guilt hit me like a hammer. I hated myself. I hated her. The problem was I really didn’t hate her—I wanted her more than ever.

But this time around, I can’t have her.

This time it’s my status that stands in our way—and going up against myself just might be the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

Jace Bennett is a widowed single dad raising his five-year-old daughter while trying to balance out a highly successful career as a dating app developer. His business, Flirt Enterprises, is a Fortune 500 company he built from the ground up. His wife died three years ago and he’s been a virtual monk since. Scarlett, his daughter is starting kindergarten.

It was more that I hadn’t been interested in having intercourse with anyone since my wife died nearly three years ago.

Her first day doesn’t go as well as Jace would have liked-seems one of the boys in her class, Jonah teased and upset her. Jace decides to confront the child’s parents. Turns out, he is the one who is confronted-by a ghost from his past. Jonah’s mom is Hannah Crestfall, the woman who years ago, who meant the world to him. He, Hannah and his best friend Ethan had a strange, twisted relationship. Seeing her again knocks him on his ass.

This was Hannah.

H. Crestfall was Hannah Michaels.

The first girl I ever loved…and the one who broke me even more than I already had been before I met her.

Drama went down, Jace and Hannah ended things. Jace moved on, met Tricia, married and had a little girl. Together, they planted roots, fixed up a house they bought and began their lives together.

I imagined it was how she felt ab out me when we first met. A little broken, but with some tender-loving care she knew she could put it back together, just as she had me.

Things weren’t quite so picturesque for Hannah. But she’s a bit of a tech genius. Fate is playing a real joke on these two as Hannah is now Jace’s employee. Throw raging hormones, guilt and regret in the mix and things are going to get more than a little complicated.

Jace cannot deny his attraction towards Hannah. But his actions…this guy drove me nuts! Hannah is upfront and honest and doesn’t pull any punches. Jace is a mass of contradictions, mostly due to his marriage and feelings of guilt. If I was Hannah I may have used one of the dating apps they work on to get myself a different guy!

“Because feelings aren’t the issue. Trust is. And I don’t trust you.”

I flipped through the pages of Big Shot but as the end there were still questions I had about why Jace took the path he followed and the actions he did that changed the course of both his and Hannah’s life. But let’s face it, he was married to a woman he loved. Sometimes as a reader we want the main characters’ pasts to be erased and only filled with the other but that isn’t real life. Each met other people; each had children with that other person. Those years existed and shaped them into the people they are now.

“You’re not my before and you’re not my after, Hannah, you’re my forever.”

Review: Unfinished Business by Carina Adams

The Bastards of Boston live in a world most don't understand. They follow their own rules, only accountable to each other, the innocents they protect, and the people they couldn't save.

As president of the Bastards MC, Robert Doyle is the man behind it all. It’s his responsibility to keep his club safe, to be the smartest man in the room, and be ten steps ahead of everyone. He’d give everything he had, and sell his soul to the devil, to protect the ones he loves.

Until Rocker comes face-to-face with the pain he thought he’d buried. Old wounds are ripped open. Revenge consumes him. Once again he’s the teenager desperate to avenge his daughter’s murder and nothing else matters.

He calls me his angel, but the halo I wear caught fire a long time ago. There is no line I won’t cross, no law I won’t break. I’ll do whatever it takes to save him. If the road to hell is paved with good intentions, I’ll happily burn.

When past and present collide, we’re in for one hell of a bumpy ride.

Review by Jen Skewes

The first book that I read by Ms. Adams was Always Been Mine, which will always be one of my favorites.  That was 4 years ago.  Then a year later I read Honey Whiskey, which is the follow up to ABM.  After reading these two books and meeting Rocker I waited patiently for his story.  As you can see I have waited 3 years for this book, every once in a while bugging Ms. Adams for a releases date.  I wanted Rocker and Cris’ story because they were two characters that I loved.  So when I finally found out that it was releasing, I could not even begin to explain how excited I was.  Let me just say that the wait was totally worth it.  Ms. Adams nailed this one.  It was everything I could have hoped for and more.  It had all the feels and from the moment I started I could not put it down.

Rocker and Cris have a lot of history together.  They have known each other since they were young teenagers, with Rocker being her brother’s best friend.  But they never seemed to get along.  They each claimed to hate the other but we see over time how that hate is so much more.  We see the both of them discover that their feelings for each are anything but hate.

The majority of this book takes place fifteen years ago, which I loved.  We get to see how Rocker got to the place he is today.  We see how he became the man that we saw in the ABM and HW.  But more importantly we see how his relationship with Cris evolves over the years.  They had a rocky relationship where there were many arguments, but there were also moments that will make you laugh.  The banter between them always made me smile.  And the moment when they both realize their feelings, the moment when they are first intimate is a moment I will never forget.  It is one that I felt inside.  At that moment you felt every bit of love and passion that these two had for each other.  It was so beautiful to see.

Rocker is the guy that you love but at times want to throat punch. He is 100% alpha male who at times can act like a real jerk.  But regardless I loved him.  He had a heart, and despite the way he sometimes acted towards Cris you felt the love and knew it was because he cared.

Cris is the heroine that I loved.  She is strong and independent but I think in a way a little naïve especially when it comes to Rocker’s world.  But she was young and I understood that part.  But it is also what I loved about her.

I loved that we got to see a lot of the other characters in this book especially Matty who I love.  He has a very close relationship with his sister and I loved seeing it in this book.  And of course the other members of the Bastards MC, Tank, Tiny, Dean.  I loved them all.  These characters and this series is one that I can talk about for days.  Ms. Adams once again proved why she is an amazing writing and why I love reading her stories.  I felt it all with this one.  There is some drama and angst, times that will make you want to cry and moments where your heart will melt.  I felt every emotion right along with Rocker and Cris, the anger and frustration to the love and passion.  I cannot wait for the next one.

Just a side note, Unfinished Business is a spin off of the MC Bastards series.  You don’t have to read the first two books but I highly recommend that you do.  It will give you a better understanding of the characters.
