Release Blitz: Dangerous Exes by Rachel Van Dyken

DangerousExes-SBPRBANNER-RB.jpeg

Isla made one teeny little mistake. Now she and her PI company, Dirty Exes, are being targeted by one seriously angry and furiously sexy ex-quarterback. Jessie freakin’ Beckett. But there’s no way some NFL superhunk is going to take her business away. If only he didn’t make her so hot—and bothered.
Jessie wants payback for a ruined reputation. His plan? Top secret. His hard-to-hide arousal for Isla? Not so much. Especially when they let down their guards and sneak a kiss. Like any juicy scandal, it goes so viral, so fast, that only a good lie can combat the bad press. Mortal enemies in a fling? No way. Um…this is love!
Actually…could it be?
Isla’s not faking it. Jessie can’t. As the game of let’s pretend gets real, Jessie forgets all about revenge. That’s the problem. His plan is already out of his control. Now it could undo everything they’ve been trying to build. Coming clean may be the only thing that can save it.

Review by Lisa Kane

Dangerous Exes is the second in the Dirty Liars series. I loved Blaire and Colin's story in Dirty Exes and kept wondering if Jessie Beckett, hot ex-quarterback and former love of Blaire's would get together with Blaire's partner in crime, Isla. In the first book, I wasn't sure if I wanted Blaire and Jessie to get back together or if I wanted her with Colin. Jessie had a lot to answer for, but I felt like he redeemed himself. By the end I didn't think he deserved to get Blaire back-he burnt that bridge. He needed to start with someone new.

If you aren't familiar with what kind of work Blaire and Isla do-well they investigate cheating partners.

I'm the Beyonce of catching cheaters with their pants down.

Jessie's wife at the time hired them to get some dirt on him and to prove he was cheating on her. When all the while she was the cheater. But in the process, Jessie's reputation got dragged in the mud and he's still dealing with the fall out. He blames Isla for all his PR problems. He's determined that she's going to pay for all the trouble she's caused him. I think it's a case of the man doth protest too much...he took a liking to this feisty little chick and when it turned out she created more problems for him, he felt betrayed.

I glared. Jessie freaking Beckett.
Ex-client of Dirty Exes, the PI company my best friend and I built from the ground up.
Ex-quarterback.
Ex-pain in my ass.

All the time Jessie is following Isla around, stalking her, plotting her downfall is more time spent with her. The woman he wants, whether he admits it or not.

Isla's been burnt herself. She started this whole business with Blaire after her she caught her man cheating on her more than once. Trust isn't something that's going to come easily. Especially if the man in question is out for revenge. But hormones will be hormones.

And I wondered if that's what the other half of the world felt like.
The happy ones.
The ones in relationships.
Because I'd never experienced sex in that way before.
With a man who once promised to destroy me.

I love their flirty little texts as their walls come atumblin' down.

Me: Why would you send me a car?
Jessie: So you don't have to walk or drive or do anything except sit and think about all the wild sex we're going to have tonight.

But you just know there's gonna be a little drama. They are on shaky pegs at best and insecurities and their rocky pasts are going to come creeping up into the present.

There's a little wisdom in this story that helps to remind me why forgiveness is sometimes really necessary.

"The thing about forgiveness, Isla, that nobody remembers in the midst of pain and betrayal, is that we do it for ourselves-not for them. You're only punishing yourself. He knows you're angry, believe me, but right now it's hurting you more than it's hurting him."

Sometimes it's important to forgive and move on. Leave the other person in your rear view mirror. But sometimes we forgive so we can keep on moving along on our journey with that other person.

She tasted like my forever.

The person made for me.

Even Queens. Especially them.

**

Review by Lisa Kane

"You don't wear the crown to do what you want-you wear it to do what must be done. Because you are the only one who can."

What a throughly engaging story!

Lenora has been raised to be the Queen of Wessco. No softness in her childhood. Nothing but royal duties and expectations. When she finally comes to power, it is demanded that she marry. It is expected. Who better to marry than her best friend Thomas, Duke of Anthorp? No matter that he has a special friend, Michael. They are all aware of their duty to country and heritage.

But Thomas is sick, very sick and his rogue brother, Edward has been summoned. He once was expected to bear the title for the family, but he left years ago for his own reasons.

I stayed away because I wanted more out of life than a title and vaults full of money I didn't earn. I wanted a purpose. A reason for being. I was searching for it.
I still am.

Lenora and Edward meet in a most unconventional way. Neither is aware who the other is-both have their guard down. But when they find out the other's identity -well sparks fly.

"The Queen does not tell people she's the Queen."
"Why not?"
"Because they're just supposed to know."

Neither wants to believe the truth about Thomas and his illness. But both will promise him anything if it will bring him peace.

"I think you should marry Edward."
"Your brother? How biblical."
Her grey eyes slice my way.
"You've agreed to this?"
"Yes."
"Why?
"He's my brother. He asked, I won't deny him, not now."

And so it begins....

Royally Yours has so much humor and protocol and steam. Lenora, Lenny to Edward, has been brought up to believe her life is about service. Edward has great fun teaching her that their life together is going to be more than duty. There will be sex, lots of sex.

Edward is not making quite the sacrifice it would seem he is-he is utterly fascinated by Lenny. Captivated by her innocence, she soothes his jaundiced soul. She appears to be ice cold as a royal, but behind their closed doors she is anything but. She cares deeply about her people and never forgets it is her duty to protect and serve.

"This life Edward-it's so easy to be broken by it."

Edward will do all he can to protect her, no matter what it takes.

"You will never have her. She belongs to me-she is mine. When I am dead and buried she will still be fucking mine."

From an arranged marriage comes a gorgeous love story full of heartbreak and joy and contentment!

"For the good and glory of Wessco."

Review by Jen Skewes

I always look forward to a Natasha Knight book.  I know it is going to be dark and intense and I will love the hero that I am supposed to hate.  Ad Taken was no different. Well maybe it was a little different.  I have read a lot of Ms. Knight’s books and for some reason this one to me seemed different.  Maybe it was the hero or the plot of the story.  But either way it was a little different and I loved it.  I loved the angst, the darkness, the sassy heroine and the hero who in this story I really should have hated.  But there is something about him and I hope to get a little deeper when it comes to Sebastian Scafoni.

There is a history between the Willow and Scafoni families, all though not a very pleasant one.  The Willow family is known for birthing quadruplet girls and when those girls turn 21, they are to be given to the oldest member of the Scafoni family.  He gets her for one year and then she is passed down to the other male members.  There are rules that are not to be broken. When It is Sebastian’s turn to pick his Willow Girl, he shocks everyone by picking Helena.  He sees that she is the defiant one, a challenge and she is definitely the one that he wants.  No matter what rules are being broken or how much his brothers disagree.  In the past the Willow girl never comes home completely whole.  The Scafoni family breaks them over and over again.  But Helena is different, she is a fighter, and a feisty one at that.  Will she be like the other Willow girls before her?

I loved this book. Sebastian is a complete bastard, I admit it.   Normally you can see some sort of remorse underneath that tough exterior, and that is what makes you love the bad guy.  But at times I am not even sure I saw that part of him.  But I hoped it was there.  I am not sure what it was but there is something about Sebastian that made me love him.  At times, I would get a peek at a different side of him and then all of a sudden, he is back to the cruel man who had no problem hurting or humiliating Helena.  I honestly did believe he is not really the enemy here and I think there is a lot more to him than what we see.  I am really hoping that we get to dig a little deeper into Sebastian’s heart, mind and soul.

Helena is a strong, feisty girl who will fight to the end, no matter what it will cost her.  She is determined to end this archaic and barbaric tradition between the two families.  And it is exactly that – barbaric.  The premise of this story is what I loved, and what I think is so different.  I was on the edge of my seat reading this one. There were people I hated, people I loved and those that I am still not sure about.  There is drama, angst, dark elements and moments where you are not sure if you should love or hate them.  Trust me at times I questioned my own insanity.  All I do know is that in the end I want to see Sebastian and Helena make this work.  There’s an element to their relationship that I think is them, what really draws them together, despite the hatred and reason for them being together in the first place. But I think under different circumstances, things between them would be different but the same.  I am being vague because I do not want to give too much away, so you will just have to read this book to understand.  I loved it.  If you have read Natasha Knight’s books before, you know that she can write darkness like no other.  She makes you feel it all and manages to make you fall for someone that you have no business falling for.  I cannot wait to read Torn.

Release Blitz: Fall by Kristen Callihan

The first time I met Jax Blackwood things went a little sideways.

In my defense, I didn’t know he was Jax Blackwood—who expects a legendary rock star to be shopping for groceries? More importantly, a blizzard was coming and he was about to grab the last carton of mint-chocolate chip.

Still, I might have walked away, but then he smugly dared me to try and take the coveted ice cream. So I kissed him. And distracted that mint-chip right out of his hands.

Okay, it was a dirty move, but desperate times and all that. Besides, I never expected he’d be my new neighbor.

An annoying neighbor who takes great pleasure in reminding me that I owe him ice cream but would happily accept more kisses as payment. An irresistible neighbor who keeps me up while playing guitar naked–spectacularly naked–in his living room.

Clearly, avoidance is key. Except nothing about Jax is easy to ignore—not the way he makes me laugh, or that his particular brand of darkness matches mine, or how one look from him melts me faster than butter under a hot sun.

Neither of us believes in love or forever. Yet we’re quickly becoming each other’s addiction. But we could be more. We could be everything.

All we have to do is trust enough to fall.

Review by Lisa Kane

It's been a while since this author has released a new book, but the wait was so worth it! I adored this story!

Stella grabs a few things at the grocery store before a blizzard is expected to hit New York City. She goes to grab the last package of Oreos when it seems someone else seems to have a cookie craving. He's gorgeous but just not quick enough to get that package.

Not to worry, my little Double Stuf delights, I'll find you a good home.

Feeling triumphant, she wanders over to the freezer section. Ah uh...only one carton left of mint chocolate chip ice cream. She better move fast. But it seems gorgeous guy has his eye on the same carton and in a flash it's in his hand! Hey a girl's gotta do what she's gotta do...we're talking snow storm here. Desperate times and all that.

Rising on my toes, I move in for the kill.
And kiss him.

I've been poleaxed. By a kiss.

Stella makes like a tree and leaves. Quickly. With the carton of gold in her hands. Leaving behind one confused as hell rock star behind. Turns out gorgeous guy is Jax Blackwood, the lead singer and guitarist for Kill John, recently best known for his attempt at suicide. Since then, he's just been drifting. The band hasn't been the same, his friendship with Killian James his bandmate and best friend still wears a band aid covering over the scars. Killian still can't cope with finding Jax after he overdosed. He's out of the country with his girl Libby. (read Idol-their story is great!)

Stella is a jack of all trades. One of her gigs is a pet sitter. She gets a call who's a friend of a friend, asking her to pet sit for a not to be named famous personality who is out of the country. Since Stella is soon to be homeless (her rent controlled apartment is going condo) getting to stay at a posh penthouse is a dream come true. Until her neighbor turns out to be Jax.

"Oh, that guilt must be eating you up, Button. (he thinks she's cute as a button, hence the nick name) I bet there was a veritable telltale ice cream heart beating in your freezer all week."

The writing in this story is hilarious and engaging. Strangers become friends...who maybe become something more. But Jax has serious issues and Stella's life has been one of abandonment. Not exactly the best combo one could imagine.

I always manage to disappoint the people I care about, and I don't want to be yet another person in Stella's life who fails her.

Expect to laugh to yourself like a silly fool most of this book. But don't be surprised when you feel gut wrenching pain at Jax's struggles with depression. This guy is trying so hard to hold himself together but sometimes it's going to take more than glue and good intentions.

But I can't be the only person in the ring. And it doesn't matter, because he's already gone.

Cue the wet eyes right now.

"I cannot chase you," I say woodenly. God, the pain keeps growing. The hurt. "I've chased down people who were supposed to love me all my life. I can't do it anymore."

The writing in this book just slays me!

This is not a short story-this book has depth and length and is so damn good. Be prepared to devout the time needed to really appreciate the greatness of this book.

"You're part of me Stella."

The air between us shifts. I’m filled with a strange giddiness, wanting to laugh for the fun of it, but I’m also too warm, my limbs oddly heavy as if simple movements might be too much for me.

His tone turns soft and cajoling, teasing the truth out of me. “Are you going to tell me what you do?” When I say nothing, the corners of his eyes crinkle. “I see. You’re going to torture me a bit.”

The warm, fuzzy feeling grows as I shrug. “Torture feels apropos in this scenario.”

He hums again, taking another step toward me. “What makes you think I won’t like being tortured by you?”

The heat of his body and the scent of his skin makes my head light and my pulse pound. How did it get to this point where the highlight of my day is flirting with Jax Blackwood? Despite the thrill, I know I’m in over my head. I haven’t gone out on a date in months because I form attachments, I get emotional, and then I hurt when they inevitably leave. And this man will leave. He is as bright and fleeting as a camera flash. I’ll be left with the image of him seared into my memory and nothing more.

I tell myself all of this, the voice in my head as stern as possible. But it doesn’t make me back away. It doesn’t stop my body from somehow straining toward his without even moving. Because it might be stupid of me, but I want to feel something that isn’t planned. Something, for however briefly, that’s real.

He’s too attuned to me not to notice. John’s lids lower as his attention slides down my body before easing back up to my face. Slowly, he rests his forearm on the wall beside my head. “Tell me, Stella,” he murmurs.

“No,” I whisper back, flirting, even though I shouldn’t.

His biceps bunch as he leans in, a smile dancing on his lips. “Tell.”

My breasts graze his chest, and I feel it in my toes.

“You’re crowding me.” I hate how breathy I sound.

“Can’t help it.” His voice is a rumble, the heat of his breath playing over my skin. He ducks his head, drawing close until our lips nearly brush, and when he speaks again, his tone is almost conversational, except for the husky quality that touches deep within my core. “You smell like strawberries. Fucking delicious.”

My lids flutter, and I swallow hard. “Ordinarily, I’d call you out on that cliché but since I’ve been eating strawberries, you aren’t exactly wrong.”

His chuckle is slow and easy, as he eases back and his gaze slowly travels over my face. “Were they sweet, Stella Button?”

He’s looking at my mouth like he might try to find out. My lips tremble in response, and John tracks the movement, his breathing getting deeper, faster. “You have two freckles on your lips. One on the top lip and one on the bottom corner.”

Those damn freckles. They were the bane of my adolescence. I hid them with lipstick and silently cursed whenever someone mentioned them.

Freckles don’t have any feelings, but I swear it’s as if he’s touching them.

“You’re just noticing this?” I try to make it sound like a joke, but it comes out weak and thready.

His own lips quirk. “Oh, I noticed. It’s distracting as hell. They’re like two little dots of butter toffee. Makes me want to lick them, get a taste.”

Oh, God. Lick them, please. I can almost feel it. I want to feel it.

No. Bad Stella. Behave.

John’s lips part a fraction like he just might take that taste.

“Back off,” I whisper. And yet somehow my traitorous hands find their way to his sides, running over the waistband of his jeans, holding him there.

John makes a sound deep in his throat and tilts his hips, pressing them against mine. A distinctly thick bulge nudges my belly. Both of us lose a breath, and then he’s closer, his cheek touching my temple. “You’ll have to let me go first.”

My thumbs slide under the edge of his shirt and find smooth, taut skin. A tremor goes through his body. I try to think, search for what the hell we’ve been talking about.

His lips brush the crest of my cheek as he murmurs against my skin. “Tell me what you do, Stella. You know you want to.”

My smile feels illicit. Somehow the action is directly tied to all my happy parts, making them draw hot and tight. “I don’t think I do.”

Another hum. “Liar. You’re dying to.”

Blurb:

Briggs,

Remember when we parted ways in Germany? It was the day I broke your heart. What you didn't know was that I was breaking mine too.

I thought they’d be enough–my husband and my son. That I’d get home and everything would go back to the way it was . . .

Before the war.

Before the ambush.

Before you.

But, no matter how hard I try, I can’t erase the trauma we shared. I can’t seem to forget the way my heart beat in time with yours.

The truth is I’m lost without you.

I thought the nightmare was over when they pulled us from that hole in the ground, but nothing could have prepared me for the war I’d face at home.

I know it’s selfish of me to ask, but, please, I have to see you one last time. . .

All my love,

Scottie

EXCERPT:

“I need you to break my heart,” she declares, wringing her hands nervously. “Give me a reason to hate you, because wanting you this way is…it’s ruining me. It’s ruining my life.”

She is dead serious.

Lifting her chin, as if ready to take a blow, her turbulent eyes implore mine. “Tell me about them. Tell me about all of the women you’ve been with since Germany.”

“No.” I shake my head. “Hell no.”

“Oh, please, Briggs. How long did you wait? A few days?” She laughs sarcastically. “I bet you didn’t even make it a day.”

She’s coming out guns blazing, and I can see it’s physically killing her to do it.

“Are we playing the guessing game? Do I get to ask how many times you’ve fucked your husband?”

“Sure,” she says with a shrug. “We’ll trade. You go first.”

She’s bluffing, and I’m calling her on it.

“Don’t do this, Scottie. You don’t really want to hear about that.”

“Humor me, Briggs.” Her eyes plead with mine. “I need to hear this.”

“Fine. You want the truth?”

She nods.

“Complete honesty?”

Again, she bobs her head.

She stands stock-still as I pace the small room, feeling the blood begin to boil beneath my overheated skin.

Fuck it.

I stalk back toward her, stopping inches away. “You really want to know that there have been so many that I’ve lost count? How they’re all blondes with blue eyes? But the blue, it’s never right, and their smiles—all wrong.”

She swats at the fresh tears that trail down her cheeks as her lips begin to tremble. Reaching out, she places a hand on my chest, and I know that she must feel the way my heart is pounding against my rib cage, reaching for her. Always reaching for her.

I jerk myself away and brand that touch to memory.

In about forty-five seconds, my heart is going to implode. I start ticking them down.

“You want me to tell you all about how I have to drink myself stupid, till their faces blur enough that I can pretend…” I pause running a hand down my face. “So that I can pretend they’re you? You want to know how fucking miserable I am? How when I slide between their legs, I close my eyes, and it’s your face I see? How I’m always careful not to kiss them because their lips are all wrong. How every time I finish I want to fucking kill myself, because I can’t stand the pain of wanting the one woman I can never have.”

Thirty seconds.

“Is that enough?” Her eyes snap to mine. “Hate me yet?”

Face crumbling, she gasps out a sob, wrapping her arms around her shoulders.

“Come on, Scottie. Let’s not kid ourselves. I’m still the same prick you hated when we met. Nothing’s changed. I think we’ve romanticized this situation long enough, don’t you?”

Taking another step away from her, I tilt my head. “You’re a housewife,” I say snidely. “Someone else’s wife and I’m a career soldier. This isn’t exactly ideal.”

She flinches visibly, and my heart bottoms out.

Fifteen.

I cut my hand through the air. “At the end of the day, this was nothing but a big mistake. And we never would have happened if—”

“Stop,” she cries out painfully, “stop, I’m good,” she whispers before rocketing toward the door just as I reach for her, my fingers curling in the space she just left. Handle in hand, she looks back at me with the sweep of her eyes until they meet mine. That’s how we started, and it’s only fitting it’s how we should end. For the moment, we’re right back there in the place we created, where we are perfect. Where our souls line up without any visible smudge on the seams. In a place where there is still so much love, so much that I can’t stop the tear that slides out before batting it away with the back of my hand.

An identical tear runs down her cheek. “Thank you.”

Three. Two. One.

Review by Lisa Kane

Here's the conclusion to the Sin Trilogy. Will Lincoln and Whitney ever get their HEA?

The feud between the Gables and the Riscoff's is still alive and burning. But finally, Lincoln has manned up and is fighting for Whitney. Having lost her to another man, he's spent ten years watching her from afar, the wife of a scumbag, and he's not about to screw up again.

The moment that Whitney and Lincoln stand up and tell the world screw off they are hit with another loss. Lincoln's she witch of a mother, Sylvia fell dead from a heart attack. His brother, Harrison is a rapid dog spewing nothing but hate for the Gable family. This guy is seriously whacked. He blames Whitney and her family for everything under the sun and wants nothing more than to break up his brother and Whitney.

"I can't apologize for loving you. I won't." I blink twice as moisture gathers at the corners of my eyes.
"But-"
"You can use this as a reason to push me away, and I'll understand, but the place I need you right now is at my side. Can you do that for me?"

Whips sweat off brow, was a little worried Lincoln would cave in to the pressure and let Whitney go.

"She didn't have the right to make you choose. That was her last attempt at manipulating you."

I'm not sure I've ever read a book that has as much deception from it's characters. Nobody seems to be who they say they are and there are so many secrets I had to keep them all straight. I expect deception from Karma (she NEVER redeemed herself for me, just go away!) and from Ricky, Whitney's scumbag spouse and his family, but man, let me tell you, no one is safe in this last book.
But this whole revenge and feuding families plot line was bound to come to one hell of an over the top ending!

"You're the only woman I've ever seen when I pictured forever, and now I know forever with you still isn't long enough, but it'll have to do."

From New York Times bestselling author Meghan March comes a brand new saga of forbidden love and second chances.

A Riscoff and a Gable can never live happily ever after. Our family feud is the stuff of legends.

Ten years ago, Whitney Gable caught me off guard with her long legs and grab-you-by-the-balls blue eyes.

I didn’t know or care what her name was.

Like any Riscoff worth the family name, I went after what I wanted. We burned like a flash fire until she married another man.

She hates me, and she should.

I objected on her wedding day.

Now she’s home, with those same long legs and man-eater stare, but there’s no ring on her finger.

They say a Riscoff and a Gable can never live happily ever after . . . but I’m not done with Whitney Gable.

I’ll never be done with her.

Guilty until proven innocent.

That’s the way the world works, right?

I’m tired of being convicted without evidence, all because my last name is Gable.

The Riscoffs might own this town, but I’m done following their rules.

If only I could forget just how easily Lincoln Riscoff can drag me under his spell.

A New York Times, #1 Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author of over twenty novels, Meghan March has been known to wear camo face paint and tromp around in woods wearing mud-covered boots, all while sporting a perfect manicure. She’s also impulsive, easily entertained, and absolutely unapologetic about the fact that she loves to read and write smut. Her past lives include slinging auto parts, selling lingerie, making custom jewelry, and practicing corporate law. Writing books about dirty talking alpha males and the strong, sassy women who bring them to their knees is by far the most fabulous job she’s ever had.
