Release Blitz: The Law of Moses by Amy Harmon

The Law of Moses
Release: 11/27/14
Cover design by: Hang Le

Synopsis:

If I tell you right up front, right in the beginning that I lost him, it will be easier for you to bear. You will know its coming, and it will hurt. But youll be able to prepare.

Someone found him in a laundry basket at the Quick Wash, wrapped in a towel, a few hours old and close to death. They called him Baby Moses when they shared his story on the ten oclock news the little baby left in a basket at a dingy Laundromat, born to a crack addict and expected to have all sorts of problems. I imagined the crack baby, Moses, having a giant crack that ran down his body, like hed been broken at birth. I knew that wasnt what the term meant, but the image stuck in my mind. Maybe the fact that he was broken drew me to him from the start.

It all happened before I was born, and by the time I met Moses and my mom told me all about him, the story was old news and nobody wanted anything to do with him. People love babies, even sick babies. Even crack babies. But babies grow up to be kids, and kids grow up to be teenagers. Nobody wants a messed up teenager.

And Moses was messed up. Moses was a law unto himself. But he was also strange and exotic and beautiful. To be with him would change my life in ways I could never have imagined. Maybe I should have stayed away. Maybe I should have listened. My mother warned me. Even Moses warned me. But I didnt stay away.

And so begins a story of pain and promise, of heartache and healing, of life and death. A story of before and after, of new beginnings and never-endings. But most of all...a love story.

Blog Tour: What's Left of Us by Amanda Maxlyn

Book Title: What’s Left of Us
Author: Amanda Maxlyn

The heartwarming conclusion to What's Left of Me.
Love found me three years ago.
I’m cancer free, happily married to the love of my life, and working toward my dream career.
Our life is complete. Perfect, really.
Or is it?
I’ve always wanted a family of my own, but never dreamed I could have one. Now Parker’s ready to make my dream our reality.
But sometimes our dreams are haunted by our deepest fears. Fears of failure, having a child, and in our case … death. How do I help the person I love get over his fear when I’m still trying to overcome that same fear myself?
Together we must learn What’s Left of Us.

4 Star Review by Lisa Kane

"Aundrea, I was taught when you find the person you're meant to be with, you should do everything in your power to keep them. Spend every day of your life proving to them that they're worth it. You're always by my side, helping me, wanting to protect me, and showing me that I can be the best man possible."

At the end of What's Left of Me I was a snotty, ugly mess. Truly, that book just about did me in. Parker and Aundrea got a happily for now ending and I could breath again! So I wondered what this book would do to me. Thankfully, while there are some angsty, heartbreaking moments, my kindle remained safe in my hands and not against the wall.

Aundrea and Parker have been married for several years. Aundrea is almost finished earning her bachelor's degree in physics, volunteers with her friend Amy (a fellow survivor) at the Mayo Clinic and still works some hours at For the Love of Paws. (Parker and her brother in law Jason's veterinarian practice) Parker is as swoon worthy as ever. He surprises her for their first anniversary with a piece of paper to a very important purchase. He envisions them starting their lives together in their new house and filling it with their children. Parker is ready to start the next step in their lives-a baby.

Aundrea is a little freaked out (to say the least) by the thought of having a child. She can's physically carry one, but before she started treatment while she was a teen, she had her eggs frozen. But the thought of having a child and having either her cancer come back or her cardiomyopathy ending her life, terrifies her. She's not afraid of dying, she's afraid of leaving those she loves behind. If they had a child, not only would she be leaving Parker behind, but she would be leaving a child also, without a mother.

"Is it strange that getting the news my cancer was back, or that I was diagnosed with a life-long heart condition doesn't scare me, but having the most important person in my world share the news they want to have a baby with me does? It's not that I don't want a baby because I do. But..."

Surrogacy is a complicated, expensive process and this story explains the many steps in a way that makes it a little less confusing. This is a decision that they make together and a large part of this book is about their journey to become parents.

The cast of secondary characters; Genna and Jason (Aundrea's sister and her husband), Amy (her friend and fellow cancer survivor and her husband Brandon) Jean (her best friend and her boyfriend, Kevin¦) all add humor and support to the plot.

As if things weren't full of drama already, tragedy strikes and Aundrea is left devastated and reeling with shock. So much so that her physical well being is affected and poor Parker thinks the worse is happening. This poor guy is so in love with her that he has nightmares, terrible dreams about losing her. Considering all they have been through together in the last 3 years, and how his love has never waivered despite their obstacles, he is elevated to top book boyfriend material!

Will Parker and Aundrea ever have a child? How can they live with the fear that her health issues, her real life and death issues will separate them? When we love so deeply we leave ourselves open and bare and vulnerable. How do you do that without losing yourself and your sanity with all the unknowns?

"Aundrea, I fight for you every day. To have a life with you. A future. I want to give you everything I can."
I'm terrified.
Terrified I can't make all her dreams come true. Terrified I'll let her down. Terrified I'll lose her.

Once again, Ms. Maxlyn has written a beautiful, realistic story about one young couple's choice to live their lives to the fullest. They are determined to persevere, despite the obstacles in their path, to beat the odds against those things that threaten to keep them apart.  Their emotional, heart filled journey will leave you teary eyed and content.

Aundrea laughs, then she turns serious as she looks at me. "I never thought my Mr. One Night Stand would become my future."
I pull her close. "And I'm not going anywhere."

Life works in mysterious ways.

Four years ago I became known as the girl with cancer.
I refuse to cry.
And I refuse to give in.
A relationship with a man is the last thing I’m looking for right now, but one night with Parker changes everything. He is persistent, and he knows what he wants. Me.
He doesn’t treat me like I’m fragile.
But he doesn’t know, and I’m not ready to tell him.
What if it changes everything?
Tragedy found me when I was seventeen.
Love found me when I was twenty-one.
My name is Aundrea McCall, and this is my journey.

I am the mother of two little boys, married to the love of my life, and living in one of the smallest towns in Minnesota. When I’m not chasing or cleaning up after my boys (yes, all three), I can be found writing or snuggled up with my kindle, a glass of wine, and spending time with my fictional friends and family.
I am first and foremost an avid reader! I love to read anything romance from paranormal, young/new adult, contemporary, and even yes, (wide eyes) erotic/BDSM.

Excerpt
When he grows silent again, I crack an eyelid open. He’s dazing off over my shoulder with undiluted pain in his eyes. The realness of him causes my heart to stutter, and my fingers yearn to jot down unwritten words.
God, what has he been through to create such a look?
When his focus lands back on me, his eyes burn fiercely, as if he’s terrified out of his damn mind “Shut your eyes,” he whispers, almost horrified.
I do as he says without question, trusting him completely, even though his intensity is enough to make the calmest person in the world feel disconcerted.
He sticks the earbud in my ear and the gloomy, unhurried beat of Radiohead’s “How To Disappear Completely” soaks through my wounded soul.
“You picked the perfect song,” I mutter as the music engulfs me. “This is exactly what I—”
His lips brush mine, stealing the words right from my mouth. My breath catches in my throat and my first instinct is to pull away. But I don’t want to pull away. I want to stay. Let him erase that last few hours from my mind.
I keep my eyes shut, too afraid to open them as his lips timidly start to move against mine. Just a whisper of a graze. A heart-stopping brush. A soul-drowning taste. He does it again and again, taking his time, erasing all the ickiness from tonight. As I absorb each soft graze, his tongue slowly follows, slipping into my mouth. I gasp, but still don’t open my eyes. I barely move. Can hardly think. And when he pulls back, gently biting at my bottom lip, I stop breathing all together.
That burn songs promise.
Blazes in me.
Hot and scorching.
So sweltering and mind-numbing.
I feel it in my veins.
Liquid fire.
Passion.
Driving me insane.
And the bar set so high.
Ayden has soared over.
Past the heavens.
And captured me eternally.
“Go to sleep, Lyric,” he whispers, his breathing ragged.
I nod, still terrified to open my eyes. Terrified I’ll lose this moment.
A moment I know I’ll be able to fill pages and pages with the most powerful lyrics I’ve ever written. All about him and that kiss.

Sometimes it takes more than one journey in life to truly be home.

EXCERPT:

Maddie's POV

“Cale, you need to go home.”
He closed his eyes and shook his head. “You’re doing it again. You’re pushing me away. I’m tired of it, Maddie. I’m so tired of it.”
I swallowed hard and turned to find my phone. I needed Jack to come pick up Cale.
I was about to dial my phone when Cale grabbed me. He turned me around and backed me up until I hit the living room wall.
His eyes were filled with lust. That look had my panties soaked in seconds.
He lifted up my dress and, in one quick movement, he ripped my panties from my body. I wanted to cry out yes. I wanted to let him take me, but I couldn’t.
“Cale,” I said. “Don’t do this.”
He kissed my neck and I started to give in. When his hand touched my inner thigh, I startled. His lips moved to mine and I moaned, desperately, into his mouth as he lifted my leg.
“Oh God,” I whispered. I tried to come to my senses. “Cale, please don’t do this. We can’t do this.”
He moved his lips to my jaw line as he kissed around to my ear. “Are you turned on by me? Or by him?”
The moment he asked, I felt like a whore. I dropped my leg and pushed him back.
I wiped the tears from my eyes.
“Jesus. I didn’t mean that Maddie. I just—”
“Get out,” I said. “Get out of my house and don’t you dare set foot near me again. I hate you, Cale.”

Review: Home For the Holidays by Ellen Faith

When Lexi and Ryan make the decision to venture home for the Christmas holidays, neither of them can wait to catch up with their families. What the pair don’t anticipate is the series of life changing events their families have been going through while they’ve been continuing with their American adventure, including a newly nudist father.

As they try to weather the storm, they discover that being back in the UK is creating more questions than answers for them as a couple and their American dream is beginning to fade. Fast.

*This novel can be read as a follow on from The Story of Us or as a standalone*

4 Star Review by Jen Skewes

I loved The Story of Us and was so excited when I found out that we were getting more of Lexi and Ryan.  Home For the Holidays can technically be read as a stand alone but I highly recommend reading The Story of Us to see how Ryan and Lexi met and fell in love.  Plus you see the close friendship between Lexi and her best friend Rosie.

I loved Home For the Holidays.  It is one of those stories that is funny, sweet and just makes you smile.  It is about family and love.  Ryan and Lexi are both from the UK but met in The United States where Ryan was living.  They are now engaged and living in the States.  But with the holidays coming up they decide it is the prefect time of year to go back home and spend some time with their families.  Oh and the perfect time for the family introductions as well.  Yes Lexi and Ryan will be meeting each other’s families for the first time and I am sure we all remember that time and how nervous you were in that moment.  Wondering if they will like you and hope that you will get along with everyone.   Well Ryan and Lexi have those same anxieties but for Ryan he is more concerned about seeing his parents since it has been a while.  His parents are now divorced and living separate lives.  And when he sees his father for the first time in a few years he gets one heck of a surprise.  Nope, not going to tell you but will say it makes for great entertainment.

We get to spend a lot of time with Rosie and Jason who I just loved.  Rosie, Jason and Lexi have been best friends since they were kids.  Rosie and Jason are married and Rosie is expecting their first child.  She is a bit of a hormonal bitch but you still love her.  Jason tries his best to keep his lovely wife in line and take care of her and his baby that she is carrying.  No mater how cranky Rosie may be she is still one of the best friends a girl can have.

We also get to see Luke as well who is Lexi’s ex-boyfriend from high school and also Jason’s best friend.  But things have been a little distant between them and Luke lately.  I loved Luke and wanted to see them all work out their issues.  A part of me was not a huge fan of Alice’s even though I know Luke may have had some fault in their damaged relationship.  But I was sort of hoping for more happiness for Luke and maybe with someone other than Alice.  I am just being honest here….lol

But putting my Luke issues aside I really loved this book. I loved the feels that you get while reading it.  Lexi and Ryan are back home for a little while but start to feel that maybe they miss their life and family back home.  And have to decide if going back home to the States is really where they want to be.  I loved watching them plan their wedding.  I remember planning my own wedding and walking into the catering hall and just knowing that is the one!!  So watching Lexi and Ryan go through the same thing just brought back so many memories.  I was so happy and excited for them and in that moment my heart just melted.  These two had been through so much before they met.  But they have both found the happiness that they deserve and I loved watching their love for each other grow.  I loved seeing their happily ever after and how much their family meant to them.  This is one of those feel good books that will make you smile and laugh out loud.
