Giveaway and Review: Escape From Paradise by Gwendolyn Field

When college sophomore Angela Birch sneaks from Texas to Mexico for Spring Break, she believes the worst that can happen is her parents finding out.

Wrong.

The worst is falling for the ruse of handsome, alluring Fernando. One spontaneous choice whisks Angela across the world to the pseudo paradise of Spain’s Mediterranean Riviera where she has another choice to make: live cooperatively as one of billionaire Marco Ruiz’s slaves, or die.

Colin Douglas’s future was seized and choked when deliberate tragedy struck his Scottish family at the age of sixteen. He spent his remaining youthful years infiltrating the U.K.’s crime world, seeking power, control, and revenge, all leading to a position as an undercover agent. With nothing to lose, Colin accepts the seemingly impossible job of rescuing America’s famous missing girl, Angela Birch. Colin knows that to enter a snake lair, one must become a snake. It turns out to be a mission which will put his desire for control to the ultimate test, and make him wish for things he never knew he wanted.

Colin Douglas may have grown up with a silver spoon and platter but that all changed when he was 16 years old. His parents were murdered and his ten year old brother was kidnapped. He spent his remaining teenage years getting himself involved in the U.K's crime world. He wanted to gain the power and control and most of all wanted revenge for his parents and his brother. Colin gets his chance working undercover for MI-6. He takes a case that involves a missing American girl, little did he know that this case would change his life forever. That's when Colin knew saving his brother from captivity was not enough. They'd ruined the boy's life, maybe permanently. He would bring the f#@kers down, and spend the rest of his days finding people like them, and making them pay.

Angela Birch is a sophomore in college. She has always been a good girl, never one to rebel. Against her parents' wishes, she sneaks away to Mexico for spring break with her friends. The only thing she things she needs to worry about is her parents finding out she lied. Little did she know how wrong she was.

Angela meets a handsome young man by the name of Fernando. He invited her and her friends to a club. They excitingly take him up on his offer. After dancing and having fun, Fernando makes his move on Angela. He lures her out to his care and this is when Angela's life will never, ever be the same. The last thing she remembers is feeling funny and trying to fight Fernando off of her then passing out.

When she comes to, she finds herself tied up and in the middle Spain's Mediterranean Riviera. Being held by Fernando's father, Marco Ruiz, who happens to be a powerful billionaire. He has given Angela a choice, she can either be cooperative and do what is asked of her or she will be killed.

"I know this is difficult, but it does not have to be bad. You must come to terms, pretty girl, with the knowledge that your life will never be the same. You will never return home. You belong to me now, and I will treat you well. But if I cannot trust you, I will have to dispose of you. Do you understand?"

It takes Colin nearly a year in a half to get into Marco's layer. Unfortunately to get the snake, you must become one yourself. Colin is relieved to have found the missing American girl. What Colin wasn't prepared for was his dark desires. He has to do everything he can to control himself around Angela but also has to make things believable to keep his cover going so that he can rescue her.

"I need you to be my master. I don't know what I'm supposed to do."
"Angela..." He tried to step back, but her arms bound his legs as she repeated over and over.
"I need you. I don't know what to do."
"It'll be alright, sweet lassie. I swear to you. You'll be okay."

I couldn't even imagine going through ¼ of what Angela has to endure. That right there, her willingness to do anything to survive no matter how scared she was made her character super strong. Watching her try to own herself again broke my freaking heart. Colin truly became her savior.

Colin is determined to rid this world of scum. Scum just like Fernando and Marco Ruiz. They are the type of people that destroyed his little brother and now Angela. Seeing Colin struggle with the choices he has to make just broke me. Immediately when Angela and Colin meet. She can tell right away that he is different. She sees the reluctance in his eyes or the things he is asked, or that she is asked to do for him. The chemistry between them is undeniable. Two people with very different issues, placed in not so common situations. Yes, they are able to push and work through it.

I do have to admit some aspects of this is disturbing but it is also very well written.
Gwendolyn Fields did a wonderful job of this nightmare situation to a somewhat romantic story of survival, belief and being able to take your power back.
