In nineteen-year-old Maggie Carson’s case, it’s taken more than its fair share.
Determined to move forward, Maggie embarks on her first year of college, hoping to finally put her past behind her, exactly where it belongs.
But that’s hard to do when the present is just as difficult. And even harder when someone like Ran, the gorgeous paramedic that keeps crossing Maggie’s path, challenges her to face things head on, rather than bury them like she always does.
Ran hasn’t had a perfect life either. But there’s something different about him, and something different about the way he makes Maggie feel. Maybe meeting Ran is life’s little gift for Maggie—a sort of consolation prize for enduring everything she's had to go through.
But things don’t come easy for Maggie. Why should love be the exception? And just when everything starts to settle, it’s all turned on its head once again.
If there is one thing Ran has taught Maggie, it’s that you can’t sit on the sidelines of your own existence. When life takes something that’s yours, you have every right to demand it back.
Only for Maggie, that is easier said than done.

4 Star Review by Guest Reviewer Faith Dotson
Life has a way of throwing punches; eventually you learn to
fight back. Maggie’s life hasn’t always been the greatest, but her father and
brother have always been there for her. After getting a frightful phone call in
regards to her brother, Maggie’s life was changed by an accident. On the way to
the hospital, she meets Ran, a paramedic who is taking care of her.
“You have to slow down that heart rate or we’re going to get
in trouble for not stabilizing you in the field.”
“That would be much easier to do if you didn’t touch me.”
Ran hasn’t had the best life, but he has learned to turn it
around and find the positive in it and to find forgiveness. He tries to teach Maggie
that she is able to forgive and is able to count on others. Through their time
together, Ran wanted to take this relationship slow and do it the right way.
Maggie, with the request of Ran, gives her mother another
shot and she tries to forgive her for leaving her and her brother behind and
starting a new family that she doesn’t seem to care about either. Things heat
up in the hot tub…OMG!!! Ran is total SWOON!!! Every woman dreams of a man that
can make her feel that way with a single kiss.
“Maggie.” Ran guides my head onto his shoulder and combs his
fingers through the length of my hair that swims around me in the rolling waves
of the jets. “I’ve done much more than that in my past, and I can promise you,
there’s no comparison. Not even on the same chart.”
A tragic accident pulls them apart and Maggie can’t deal
with the fact that he may never love her the way that he did before. With the
help of their friends, Maggie tries to recapture what they once had.
Sometimes love is supposed to be, even with the twists and
turns that they endured….I believe that fate will always be there for these
two.
