When her past resurfaces, it complicates their relationship. Instead of reaching out for help, Quinn pushes Travis away, until a staggering secret is revealed that leaves her fighting for her very life.Torn between running and opening her heart to the man determined to have her, can Quinn find the strength within herself to fight for her future?

4 star review by Lisa Kane
Quinn’s life has been a more of a lesson in how to survive than it has how to live. Her mother is worthless and married a man David, who beats her if for no other reason than he can. Her mother watched and made no attempt to help. The last time he did it, her mother had just left him and he blamed Quinn for it. He’s been borrowed in shady dealings for years and his screw ups are the catalyst for his angry tirades.  His last attempt to beat Quinn senseless finally resulted in him being sent to jail. Quinn found love once with Ethan but like everything else good in her life, he was taken away from her and David made sure every trace of him was gone for good.

Quinn tries to stay under the radar. She lives across the hall from her best friend Lucy and her husband. Lucy saw first- hand what David is capable of and has worked hard to get Quinn to lighten up and have some fun. In the past she dealt with her anger and pain with too many drinks and too many men. Now she takes the exact opposite route and never dates.

“Rick’s going to come down for a drink. Then he can keep me company while you make your big move.” I bit my lip to stop the bark of hysterical laughter threatening to burst out at her statement. If any moves were going to be made, it would involve me running for the door.”

She has a great interview coming up to be an assistant manager to Jamieson, a hot band in Australia. Lucy convinces her to go out and glams her up a bit. When she gets to the bar she immediately notices a particular hot guy that seems to be having a great time. No way would he bother with her. When she goes to the bar to order a drink she ends us spilling it and the two make contact. When it looks like he might be interested also she freaks out and leaves. Only this guy, Travis, he follows…

“Where were we? Oh that’s right. I believe you were thanking me.” “Umm…” He was watching expectantly. “Thank you, “ I answered with a flustered smile. “Pity.” My smile dropped at his tone. “What?” “I was hoping I’d get more than words.”

The next morning she tries to sneak out his apartment but her walk of shame ends up having an audience. She skulks away to keep her interview. She hits it off with Mac, Jamieson’s manager. Turns out Mac’s brother is Travis. Evie, the lead for Jamieson is dating Mac’s brother Jared and her other brother Mitch is Travis’ partner in their security investigation business. This job can change her luck and she is determined to succeed at it.

She and Travis try to keep things all business but it is obvious they are interested in each other. Add to the mix, David’s time in jail is coming to an end and Quinn is receiving threats that she knows are tied to David. Can you ever leave her past behind? She loves the camaraderie of her new friends and they are fiercely protective of her. Her natural inclination is to take flight when she feels too much, for fear it will be taken away. Better to walk away by your own choice than to be left behind. What happens if the people you are leaving behind won’t let you go?

“Because I don’t see you. You’re not my Travis. You’re someone else. I don’t want to look at you and see a stranger.”

I enjoyed this book as much as I did Give Me Love. I loved Evie and Jared and this new couple have the same chemistry and attraction as they did. Catching up with Mac and her brothers and Jamieson’s band members nicely ties the two novels together. There are a lot of untold stories with these colorful characters and I hope this series continues for a few more books.
