Synopsis

He is seeking absolution.

Flynn Caldwell has a hero complex and it’s one of the reasons he joined the New York City Fire Department. He has spent his entire professional career trying to atone for that one person he failed to save. Because, if he can do that, then perhaps he can be worthy of love again.

She is seeking escape.

Rowan Page’s life is nothing short of a disaster. Always immersed in trouble, she has only herself to depend on. She’s determined to pull herself out of this mess and make something of her life, despite the hard years she has lived on the streets of New York.

Together, they have the chance to become complete.

Flynn and Rowan’s worlds exist miles apart, but when a chance meeting brings them together, neither of them can deny the instant pull that connects them to each other. What starts as a tiny spark eventually flares into a fire so hot, it refuses to be extinguished.

Both are willing to jump feet first into the flames to see where it takes them, despite the risk of being burned.

4.5 star review by Jen Skewes

Off Chance is book 5 in the Off Series by Sawyer Bennett.  This can be read as a stand alone but I highly recommend reading the first four books first because the characters do appear in the other books and simply because it is a fantastic series.

This book completely sucked me in from the start.  While reading the prologue you see a young Flynn Caldwell completely in love one minute and then the next minute his world is completely shattered.  The prologue explains a lot about the man that he later becomes.  Flynn is a hot and sexy fire fighter who will completely capture your heart.  Ever since he lost the love of  his life 8 years ago he has this need to save people which is why he became a fire fighter. He couldn't save Marney and ever since that tragic night he has spent his life trying to make up for it by trying to save others.  Sometimes putting himself at risk.  So one night when he saves Rowan Page from a fire, he knows that he should walk away, but instead he invites her and her dog to stay with him until she is able to get back on her feet.

Rowan Page has this tough exterior but when you look past that exterior you see a very broken and damaged young woman.  She grew up in a home where she was never good enough.  She has been on her own since she was a teenager and while she has done a good job of taking care of herself,  she fell for the wrong man and now finds herself with no money and no place to live.  When she meets Flynn she sees him as a good man but given her past she isn't sure whether or not she can trust him.  She agrees to stay with him and as time moves on they begin to build this friendship that Rowan is afraid to lose.  Her and Flynn have this connection and bond and for the first time in a long time Rowan has someone in her life who cares, who she feels comfortable and safe with and someone she trusts.  She knows Flynn wants more but right now she just cannot give him more because she is afraid of what will happen if things don't work out.  She is afraid of losing his friendship which is the one thing that she needs right now.  Flynn is determined to make her see that he is not like the other men in her life, that he would never hurt her and how much they are meant to be together.  But the question is will she let Flynn in?  Will she give into her feelings and become more than just his best friend?

I loved Flynn and Rowan together.  They start out as just friends and I loved watching their friendship blossom into something more.  I loved their flirty banter and to see how much Flynn genuinely cared for Rowan.  That has such an amazing bond and I loved watching their relationship slowly develop.  The sexual tension between the two of them is so strong that you just cannot wait for that moment when they are finally together.  Once again Ms. Bennett has created two amazing characters that you immediately fall in love with.

What I love about this series is that you feel like you are truly a part of the the characters' lives.  She creates characters that are real, that you can relate to, and characters that will stay with you. They are like your own little group of friends.  Off Chance is Rowan and Flynn's story but we still see all of those characters from the other books that we fell in love with.  I will admit that my favorite has always been Nix, so it was so wonderful to see some very special moments in Nix's life.

Off Chance was a fantastic end to this series.  And let's talk about the epilogue which tied this series up with a perfect pretty little bow on it.  It was truly the perfect ending, to see where all our favorite characters end up and to see how strong the bond is between all of them.  Amazing job.  I am just sad to see this series end.
