Blog Tour Review: Before We Fall by Courtney Cole

ABOUT BEFORE WE FALL:

Sometimes, one dark moment is all it takes to turn your world black...

For 24-year old Dominic Kinkaide, that moment took place on the night of his high school graduation. One dark incident changed him forever. He's a hardened actor now, famous in the eyes of the world, but tortured in his own. He doesn't care about much of anything, except for losing himself in the roles that he plays.

23-year old Jacey Vincent doesn't realize how much her father's indifference has affected her. She is proof that sometimes it isn't one specific moment that wrecks a person, but rather it's an absence of moments. She's like a bird with a broken wing-strong yet fragile, as she tries to float through life, finding acceptance in the arms of random guys, one after the other... to fill the void that her father left in her.

Until she meets Dominic.

After jaded Dominic and strong-willed Jacey are thrown together, his secret and her issues create a dark and damaged energy that will soon turn their attraction to each other into an explosive storm.

Even though when the clouds have cleared and the dust has settled, both of them are almost obliterated... they've learned a priceless lesson.

Sometimes, before we fall... we fly.

5 star review by Jen Skewes

Before We Fall is the third installment of the The Beautifully Broken Series.  I love this series.  I first fell in love with Pax, then Gabe.  And while both of these men were completely broken and damaged I think Dominic's character was taken to whole other level of damaged.  Personally I think that this story is the best one yet.  Ms. Cole took this one to the next level and completely knocked it out of the park.

Dominc Kincaide lives in this dark world where he does bad, bad things.  He doesn't necessarily do them all for pleasure but more to drown out the pain that he feels.  Six years ago he was betrayed by two people who meant the world to him.  That betrayal led to a tragic loss that Dom blames himself for.  For the last 6 years Dom has gone through life carrying all of that hurt, pain, anger and guilt with him.  He is now a big time actor but his personal life has always ben private.  What he does behind closed doors is no one's business.  Because what goes on behind closed doors is his way of dealing with all the emotions that have been bottled up inside him since that horrible night six years ago.  He lives in his own dark world, where pain, amongst other things makes him feel numb inside.  Helps him to forget for just that moment.

"Because I'm Dominic fucking Kinkaide and nothing bothers me.  nothing touches me, because I won't let it."

He hasn't told the truth about what really happened all those years ago because he doesn't want to relive the pain of it all but he also doesn't allow himself to get that close to anyone.  He won't open himself up to anyone or let his true feelings come out.  He still blames himself for what happened and doesn't think he deserves that happiness, only the pain.  He has built up these walls around him, not letting anyone it.  Until Jacey comes along and completely pushes his buttons, makes him feel things he doesn't want to feel.  For the first time in 6 years he feels something and that completely scares him.  Plus he also believes that he is no good for Jacey and that she deserves better than him.

"Jacey, I'm not good. I'm the opposite of good. Have you ever wondered if people are monsters inside, down where no one can see? Because I don't have to wonder. I know that I am."

Jacey has her own demons from her past that she is fighting.  Some of them them were a result of poor decisions on her part.  But she has been trying to be a better person and make the right decisions.  Then she meets Dom one night at a party and knows exactly who he is.  She knows to stay away.  She knows that Dominc Kinkaide is everything that she does not need in her life right now.  But when they find themselves having to work together for the next 90 days, staying away is not going to be easy.  There is this connection between the two of them.  And neither one of them can deny the attraction and pull that they feel towards each other.  But Dom is a very complex individual and one who has walls up that Jacey finds very hard to break down.  As much as she knows that falling for Dominic will only crush her in the end, she can't stay away.

Dominic is trouble. And I don't need any more trouble in my life. I'm turning over a new leaf and I'm making good choices. Dominic Kinkaide is a bad, bad choice.

Dom feels something when he is with Jacey.  He starts to actually have feelings for her and that scares the crap out of him.  He knows that he cannot give her what she wants but they do agree to take it a little further than a friendship.  But when feelings start to complicate things even more will Dom run or will he open up to Jacey and finally let someone in?

I am a huge fan of this series and I think that Courtney Cole did a fantastic job with their story.   In the beginning I thought Dom was a little bit of a jerk but I also knew that there was some deep dark issues that he was dealing with which caused his actions.  You knew that deep down he was a genuine guy with a heart, but was so damaged that it took a lot for the real Dominic to come out.  Dominc and Jacey were great together.  I loved the flirty banter, how they pushed each other's buttons.  Jacey was a strong character and even though she would completely melt at the sight of him and want to give into him she stood strong when she needed to.  And the way she stood by his side when he finally opened up and dealt with his past was amazing.  She showed how strong and mature she was and how much she truly loved him.  Dom had a lot of layers to him that Jacey managed to peel away layer by layer, a little bit at a time.

As the reader you felt the emotions that these characters felt.  My heart broke for them and everything that they both went through.  And slowly but surely we find out what pushed Dominic into the world he was currently in.  What brought about the pain and the guilt that he has been carrying around.  There were hints of it along the way but when was all revealed you couldn't help but feel every emotion that he was going through.  You couldn't help but root for this guy who appeared to be a cocky jerk at times.  Because you understood his reasons for being a jerk, you knew what he was really hiding from.  He deserved t be happy and deserved to be loved.

Before We Fall as an amazing read.  It was emotional, heart breaking, angst and sexy all in one.  After all the heartache, and emotions that you go through you will be left with a smile in the end.  Another fantastic job by Ms. Cole.  I am still hoping for Brand's story and would love to see more of Dom's two brothers.
