Blog Tour: The Forgotten Girl by Jessica Sorensen

Synopsis

Twenty-one year-old Maddie Asherford is haunted by a past she can’t remember. When she was fifteen years old, there was a tragic accident and she was left with amnesia.

In the aftermath, Maddie’s left struggling with who she is—the forgotten girl she was six years ago or the Maddie she is now. Sometimes it even feels like she might be two different people completely—the good Maddie and the bad one.

Good Maddie goes to therapy, spends time with her family, and works on healing herself. Bad Maddie rebels and has dark thoughts of hurting people and sometimes even killing them.

Maddie manages to keep her twisted thoughts hidden for the most part. That is until she starts having blackouts. Each time she wakes up from one, she’s near a murder scene with no recollection of what happened the night before and this helpless feeling like she’s losing control of her life. Maddie doesn’t want to believe she’s a killer, but she begins to question who she really was in her past. If she was bad Maddie all along and that maybe she was a killer.

4.5 Star Review by Jen Skewes

Oh My God!!  I just finished The forgotten Girl by Jessica Sorensen and am sitting here thinking what just happened?  Just when I thought I had it all figured out and understood everything that happened, Ms. Sorensen throws anothor twist my way making me completely rethink everything that I thought I knew.

I am not going to say too much about the plot of the story.  All you need to know is what is in the synopsis.  Maddie was in an accident 6 years ago and has amnesia.  She cannot remember anything of her life prior to the accident.  She isn’t completely sure who she really is or was.  She is trying to understand the thoughts in her mind and what happened in her past.  At times feeling like she is completely crazy and other times where she wonders if she is a killer.  Maddie isn’t even sure that she wants to know the truth of her past. And when the truth finally comes out will she be able to handle it?

The Forgotten Girl is a dark thriller, which is not something that I normally read.  I am a romance kind of girl.  But this is Jessica Sorensen who happens to be one of may favorite writers.  So I knew I had to read it and I am so glad that I did.  I  was completely captivated with this book from start to finish.  Just like Maddie I needed to know what happened.  What was real and what wasn’t.  Who could you really trust in all this and most importantly what happened in Maddie’s past to cause the thoughts swirling in her head?

What I love about Jessica’s books is how gritty and intense they are and how they can touch on some dark topics.  There is definitely some darkness in this book.  For me personally the dark parts were never that bad where I felt it unbearable to read.  It had the perfect level of darkness.  This book makes you think, makes your mind go crazy trying to figure it all out.  Even after reading the book there are thoughts still going on in my mind.  I am still thinking about this book and I think for myself I need some sort of support group to help me through this hangover.

If you love a book that makes you think and completely screws with your mind then this book is deifintley for you.   There were times where I wasn't sure what was going on.  Then I thought I had it all figured out, thought that I understood it all and then BAM!!!  Everything changes and you’re left staring at your e-reader going “What?! Did that just happen.”  This is unlike any book that I have ever read before and I absolutely loved it.  It will mess with your mind in many ways but that is what made this book what it is: brilliant, creative and awesome.  Honestly it completely blew my mind in so many ways.  Amazing job by Ms. Sorensen!!

After sitting for a while, I manage to get to my feet and check my pocket for my phone, but it’s gone so I stagger through the trees and mud. I don’t even know where I’m going, what woods I’m in, how deep I am in the trees. I could walk for miles and be going in a circle and never know it, but I’m not worried about that. There’s a spark of recognition in my mind and it feels like my feet are following an invisible path, like they’re my compass, guiding me toward wherever it is I need to go. Maybe I subconsciously remember hiking out here last night. And I luck out. After walking for about five minutes, I hear the sounds of cars. There’s a road nearby. Even though it hurts, I pick up my pace, tripping over my feet and bumping into trees. I’m getting closer, the sound of the cars becoming more defined, when suddenly it happens. A spilt second before it occurs, my mind registers that it’s going to happen but before I can respond, I trip over something solid and fly to the ground face first in the dirt, my nose slamming against a rock. Blood drips out of my nostrils and runs down my chin as I roll over, terrified to look, because I know what it is
A dead body.
Lying in the dirt. Face up. Eyes open. Wavy hair matted with dirt and smothered with blood, along with his polo shirt, the top one missing. The man from the bar that got rough with me is dead by my feet. And I can’t remember last night. Again. I can’t do anything, but check. Putting my hand into my pocket, my fingers brush a small, smooth object. I don’t take it out, already knowing what it is. Tears burn at my eyes, my heart thuds violently.
Run!
