Review: Intractable Souls by Tricia Daniels

It’s been years since brilliant IT consultant Olivia James, fell for a man who had a deeply hidden compulsion to violence and control. Left healing physically and emotionally, she became a shadow of the confident woman she used to be. That is, until she meets Ethan O’Connell, a man who makes her burn with a powerful desire. Haunted by fear and insecurity, she desperately tries to resist him, doing all the right things to protect her heart, but she is betrayed by her desires and her attraction to confident men. With stubborn perseverance, he ignores her attempts to push him away, leaving her wanting, desiring his love, needing it to feel alive and whole.
Ethan O’Connell is extremely successful in his businesses, with a seriously sexy Irish accent and a lethal kind of flare and charm. More than any one man should ever possess. Ethan knew, from the very first moment that he saw her that she is meant to be his. Used to getting the things he wants, he is determined to have her and struggles to control his Irish temper, the reason for his own troubled past. Olivia James is the woman that makes him want more, the kind of girl who would make any man think about forever. Afraid that he can’t live without her and unwilling to lose her, he hides his secrets and ignores his dark desires and fantasies of control.
Eccentric Psychic, Eva Storm is drawn to the energy around them. She knows that they are soul mates bound by past lives and helps the universe steer them together. Ethan is hesitant to believe at first, but there are things he can’t ignore. Things he couldn’t possibly know, but does. Neither of them can deny the dreams and memories that they both share, but Olivia is too afraid to believe and not willing to trust her heart.

Convinced that she is “THE ONLY ONE” for him, Ethan refuses to walk away, vowing that he will never give up on her, even if it means he has to fight hard enough for both of them. Can he control his temper and his needs in order to keep her in his life? Can she heal her past wounds and let him in? Like no other woman in his life, Olivia challenges him with her strong will and sharp sense of humor, making him wonder if she could ever become a willing captive of his dominance. Ethan hopes with all his heart that she will become equally addicted to his love, and a sneaky suspicion that falling in love with Olivia James is about to bring on a shift in the balance of power in his world.

They say there is one out there for each of us-our soul mate. No matter how much we fight it, you keep going back to the same heart. A heart that beats in rhythm to your own name.

Olivia James has had one heck of a go of it. The trauma of her past keeps her guarded from a future. She figures she is not worthy of love, so instead of letting people in she pushes them away so they don't need to deal with all her baggage. Even though Olivia is a hard working woman, she is still the type of woman you would want to shake the living day lights out of. She seriously has more wishy-washy moments than any heroine I know. The girl is tough, independent and is a serious smart mouth, but my God I wanted to smack her. Thankfully the hot, hunky Irishman that enters her life isn't about to let all that get in the way of what he wants.

To him there is nothing more beautiful, than a woman letting go of herself and completely submitting to him. Surrendering her body for his pleasure. It's a gift that he worships but hasn't actively sought out in some time. Olivia brings out those desires in him.

Ethan O'Connell is used to getting what he wants with a snap of his fingers and he stops at nothing to prove to Olivia that she is worthy of love and that he's the man that she needs to be with to let down her guard. His dominate traits and all alpha male mouth will have your panties melting! I swear!!!

His smile fades and he prowls towards her like a hungry lion stalking his prey as he makes his way to the desk and places his hands on either side of her, trapping her there. He smells so good that she feels giddy and her heartbeat kicks up a notch. Denying her any space, he movers in closer, pinning her between his desk and his rock hard body. Her body reacts, heat surging and moisture gathering between her legs.

When they first laid eyes on each other they both felt the immense connection they had for one another. Even after her best guy friend Noah tried to warn her to stay away from him, Olivia still felt that Ethan was harmless. That in itself is awesome because of the way she feels about anger issues.

She's not entirely sure which side of the coin rules his sense of humor or his sexual nature, although at times they both seem to be heavily rooted on the dark side. She smiles. He has most certainly met his match in her on both accounts.

And lord does Mr. Irish-Hot Head have some anger issues. He even has some legal issues that are stemmed around his anger, but it's all a lie built up by his ex to get more money out of him. I know, when you just read that you are thinking the whole opposites attract thing-the way they balance each other out is the kicker. He keeps his anger in check around Olivia and she has never felt more open and safe in the presence of some one else. Like with all hot men, he has that moment when you just want to reach out and make your fist connect with his face, but his protectiveness kind of makes you forgive him for that.

"I knew the first time I saw you that we're meant to be together. I can't stand the thought of you being with another man. I've explained to you before that I'm the kind of man who needs to be in control. Every second of every day, I fight against my desires for you, and look at all the fucked up shit that' gone on in the last week because of it. Well, from now on we do things my way. Starting with this "seeing other people" garbage. That shit stops and it stops right now!

This is a very long, but excellent read. There is a lot to this book. The flashbacks and dreams they both were having kind of had me rereading the parts to make sure that it wasn't present day, but once you figure all that out you will believe that there is such a thing as a soul mate. Even with an old psychic lady appearing and disappearing speaking in riddles.

The secondary characters added all kinds of twists to the personalities. Rachel, Liv's best friend, loved her but she needed to back off and let them figure it out on their own. And Scott, Rachel's husband and all mighty wise one of the group, was just so well put together that I wonder how he landed Rachel. Then there is Noah, the best guy friend, he's one that could trip over his own ego! Ugh, he drove me absolutely insane.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I was both excited and sad to see the end of it coming, but BAM! those stinking cliff hangers and this one was just freaking cruel the way it ended. But I guess that's what we get when you have a great dialogue, fantastic main characters, romance, humor, and torment.

Sooooo, I will sit back and dream of Ireland till Book #2 makes its appearance.
