Review: The Hook Up (Game On) by Kristen Callihan

The rules: no kissing on the mouth, no staying the night, no telling anyone, and above all… No falling in love.

Anna Jones just wants to finish college and figure out her life. Falling for star quarterback Drew Baylor is certainly not on her to do list. Confident and charming, he lives in the limelight and is way too gorgeous for his own good. If only she could ignore his heated stares and stop thinking about doing hot and dirty things with him. Easy right?

Too bad he’s committed to making her break every rule…

Football has been good to Drew. It’s given him recognition, two National Championships, and the Heisman. But what he really craves is sexy yet prickly Anna Jones. Her cutting humor and blatant disregard for his fame turns him on like nothing else. But there’s one problem: she's shut him down. Completely.

That is until a chance encounter leads to the hottest sex of their lives, along with the possibility of something great. Unfortunately, Anna wants it to remain a hook up. Now it’s up to Drew to tempt her with more: more sex, more satisfaction, more time with him. Until she’s truly hooked. It's a good thing Drew knows all about winning.

All’s fair in love and football…Game on.

New Adult/Contemporary Romance with a HEA - Recommended for readers 17 and older.

4.5 Fantastic Stars!

Review by Lisa Kane

Drew "Battle" Baylor is the star quarterback at his college. He may have been a player off the field at one time, but he doesn't do casual hook ups anymore. When Anna Jones shows up in his Philosophy class, he is absolutely mesmerized by this hot red head. He works up the courage to talk to her and the first thing out of his mouth is, "Hey there, Big Red." Hmm...maybe not the best choice of words.

Anna was chubby in her teens. Despite having lost most of that weight, she will never be thin; her curves ensure that. So when the big shot on campus, talks to her for the first time and calls her Big Red, all her old insecurities start screaming in her head. She knows who he is, but makes it a point not to follow football. (which is practically a sin considering this story takes place deep in the South where football is a religion)

Battle Baylor. Ridiculous name. Apparently, a name earned because he never gives up. Thanks to the seemingly endless parade of students and professors who like to wax on about the football team, I now know far too much about Baylor's talent.

She thinks he is playing with her head. But lucky for us, this story is told in dual POV's so we can read both characters' thoughts. Drew has been working himself up to approach Anna and can't believe what came out of his mouth.

"Anna Jones." Just her name. That was all she'd said. It was like a hot finger stroking down my spine. My head snapped up. And there she was, so fucking pretty that I couldn't think straight. I might as well have been sacked. Breathless, my head ringing, I could only gape. I'm not going to say it was love at first sight. No, it was more like oh, hell-yes-please, I'll have that. With a helping of right -the fuck-now on the side.

He is mortified and is kicking himself thinking that she will never give him a chance.

But fate has something else in store for these two. Their desks are right next to each other, so they really can't ignore the other. And the chemistry between them-they are drawn to the other. It's something they can actually feel-they both know exactly when the other is near them well before they see them.

Running into each other and putting them in the same place, outside of school unleashes the feelings that they both have-talk about one hot sex scene!

Look this way, I tell her in my head. Look at me. Give me those wide, green eyes. Lock them on to me with their intensity I feel down to my bones.
Look at me.
Look at me.

Man, this one burnt up my Kindle!

I'm so wet there the air feels cold. As if he scents my desire, his nostrils flare, and he finally looks. He groans as though in pain. "Fuck. Holy fuck."
My upper thighs are wet.

But Anna is someone who is content to blend into the woodwork, and wants no parts of standing out in a crowd. You know, like being linked to the star quarterback with his endless supply of girls just waiting for the chance to make their move. So the moment they finish, literally the moment they break apart, she leaves like a shot. Drew is stunned and thinks he really screwed this one up (no pun intended). But despite her intentions to never do this again, "This"  happens quite often and seems to get better each time.

Anna is determined for it to be nothing but hooking up. No emotions, not even any soul searching, deep throated kisses. Just sex, pure and simple..Righhtt! It's hard to spend time with someone and not learn things about them; how they feel about things, how they grew up, their families, what they want to do after graduation. Both recognize that this is so much more than a physical connection but Anna won't let this become anything more than their dirty little secret and Drew wants more.

Without thinking, I wrench my head to the side. "No. Not on the lips." It hurts to say it because the greater part of me is screaming. Yes. Now. Please. But I can't. A deep, undeniable instinct tells me that, if he kisses my mouth, I'll lose all resistance to him.
I really loved this book! I thought this was going to be one of those bad boys get together with the good girl and they ride off into the sunset. Nope, in this one, I think Drew was getting the short end of the stick (although Anna had her reasons and I could understand them) and he wasn't content to just stay in something (can't really call it a relationship) where he felt he wanted so much more. There are tons of conflicts holding these two back from getting their HEA. They have to fight and claw for it and there are some really heartbreaking moments.

"You're right. I think you should leave."
"No."
He stops in his tracks and turns. "Excuse me?"
"You heard me fine. I live here."
"No. I live here. You've just been hanging around."

But the epilogue! Oh how I love a good epilogue. The next book in the series is The Friend Zone. This next one will be about Gray, Drew's best friend. I will make sure I have a ticket for that next game.
