Review: Beautifully Awake and Beautifully Done by Riely Mackenzie

Diagnosis: Sleep-running

Treatment: Truth

Prognosis: Beautifully Awake

Lili Porter hates the rain. Bad things happen in the rain. As a small town social worker dedicated to protecting children, she is forced to start over to escape her rural disaster. Determined to follow her father’s advice—head up and chin high—Lili finds herself in a new city, taking on a new system, this time healthcare. In doing so, she gets something she never expected, an intimate behind-the-scenes look at life in the hospital.

Lili learns that a surgeon’s hands have the power to heal more than physical wounds. And a prescription for truth can cure three years of sleep running and leave you beautifully awake.
5 heartbreaking earth shattering pain in my chest stars!!!

(while writing this I’m listening to how to save a life…you’ll get why)
So you start off this book about Lili..Social worker extraordinaire.  She has just moved to Philadelphia to become a case manager.  Fresh start..
New service, new residents, new intern and a brand new attending.
How bad can it be…BAD…HORRIBLE..UNIMAGINABLE..Her new attending..total freaking asshole..total freaking good looking asshole..total f*cking Mcdreamy….
He’s what, like thirty-six and alrea dy f*ckin’ Chief of Neuro..
UMMM Yes Please..
And when she met him…Her world..STOPPED..Chase Colton..SIGH
I grabbed my tablet and pivoted on my heel to come face to face with a presence that sent a sudden shiver down my spine.  Storm cloud grey eyes locked with mine and cut like glass.  It was hard to tell if it was deliberation or anger, but his intensity startled me.  My breath hitched and I took a step back.  The small amount of extra space allowed the face possessing those eyes to come into focus. Strong jaw.  Sharp nose.  Razored cheekbones.  CHISLED.  Every defined line brought focus right back to those eyes.  His bronze skin looked a shade darker than his five o’clock shadow, while dark chocolate hair hung unruly over a faint linear indentation across his forhead…
Seriously….I would seriously consider maybe messing with my brain in order to have him operate on me…I mean come on…chiseled…what's the worse that can happen…Oh right the thought that I might die…brings me back into the real world…thus I must just read about this creation of God. Okay, enough back to the story.
Lili and Chase start playing the cat and mouse game. Except Lili got burned and Chase believes that he is just not good enough for her “sweetness”.  What Chase doesn't get is that you don't choose who you fall in love with or who falls in love with you regardless of whether you “deserve” it or not.
The journey of love for these two was like a war zone. I mean , with her ex boyfriend, who I swear didn’t have a name, but they referred to him as, and I swear and kid you not, F*ckface, (best name ever), to her trust issues, to his trust issues and grief, you think to yourself, "How much can two people withstand to be together?"
He pursued her until she gave in until he pushed himself in and then when she needed him..he left…and with that he broke my heart..
I picked myself up and headed straight for the bathroom.  Maybe a long hot shower was exactly what I needed.  But what I wanted was Chase.  His arms securely around me.  His intoxicating smell filling my senses.
But what happens when you leave someone that you love, when you know they love you, when you know that she is your everything, when you know that you choose her over the next breath you take? You go back and you fight for it.  You fight for her, you fight for your future, you fight to stay beautifully awake…
It was such a gorgeous story in the end..you know after I pulled out at least 30 strands of hair, and indulged in a carbs packed meal..
Simply Beautifully Awake. Sighs...

Diagnosis: Borrowed time
Treatment: Trust
Prognosis: Beautifully Done

Asher Craig drives fast, flies high, and screws hard. But make no mistake, he’s a gentleman.

He learned way too young that we’re all on borrowed time. Fair or unfair, you only get one ride. He vows to live for the moment because it’s the only time he owns. The past is beyond his control and the future may not exist. With his only loyalties being his family, he thrives for that edge where plunging over is always in the realm of possibility.

When a beautiful familiar face tilts his axis, he re-examines everything and realizes that second chances are overrated and a lifetime of firsts are irreplaceable. In the end, it’s not her medical degree but his trust that needs to prove that the ride together is worth it ... until it’s Beautifully Done.

And yes I’m shouting….
Oh my gosh, where do I start with this book or this review…
For the last two days I’ve been sucked into these two books.  As I write this I’m sipping Scotch and smoking a cigarette while trying to comprehend what the hell just happened….Ok i'm not really smoking…or drinking….but seriously what the f#ck just happened..
Meet Asher Craig drives fast, flies high, and screws hard. But make no mistake, he’s a gentleman.
Oh Asher how I love thee.  We first met you in Beautifully Awake…The perfect BFF…Who never ever left Chase’s side.  Loyal, family oriented and hello Mr. Green Giant..With a body to boot….oh Asher Asher Asher…
What happens when you go to the bar and see the woman of your dreams that you haven’t set eyes on in 19 years..And let’s not forget she was one of your best friends..You question everything.
She whipped around to face him and I choked on my cold lager.  I was definitely not all right.  Talia Prince was here.  My Thalia Prince, who I hadn’t seen or heard from in years, was sitting a couple bar stools down from me.  Holy shit, if guys were allowed to freak out I was totally freaking out.  I never thought I would ever lay eyes on her again after everything went down.
Talia, beautiful strong Talia.  When these two get together and start filling in the gaps of what can happen in 19 years, you think college, job, dating..What you don’t expect is the fact that Asher survived cancer not once, but twice…There is a reason that he lives everyday like it's his last..And then Thalia, who ran away pregnant with secrets of her own.
What happens when two friends get friendly again? Well, they start out as friends with little small jokes, coffee, breakfast, drinking and then..
But then, Tal, so you know, I’m done with just being friends, I said it for the first time in my life.  And I meant it.  The softest smile parted her lips.  She closed our gap and kissed my cheek.  “No argument here.”
So we are taken on a wild journey of  friendship, family and love..A love that can never be broken or never shaken.  Oh what a fool I was to believe it would be smooth sailing.  I mean seriously, Asher suffers cancer twice…He needs smooth sailing…oh my poor Asher…
Their love is put to the test time and time again.  From his father being ill, to finding out why she ran away to her being pushed to the brink of being everything that makes them whole.
“Teeps, you’ve got to promise me something.”  I uttered against her lips,  trying to slow my ragged breath  “Next time I f#ck up and you decide you need to fix us, please – don’t leave.  I’m gonna trust you to knock some sense into me instead.  I won’t survive that hell again.  I don't want to.  I know you said it to me and you definitely showed me, but I was too blind to see and too deaf to hear, but you were right.  We’ve got one shot at this.  Only One.  And without you, without us, it all means nothing”
This story has literally mind f#cked me without wearing a condom…I went through so many different emotions at one point I think I was actually hyperventilating, while rocking myself, it can’t be, it can’t be, it can’t be.  Must continue and when I did and it ended I was at a loss for words.  My mouth caught a fly or two- it was hanging opened.  Sooo now I know what a book hangover is, because this is what I’m going to be suffering…You must get this book…it’s a must…you have to…it would be a shame for you to miss out on something so wonderful!
