I was happy in my small town. In my life as a single thirty-two year old woman. I had a good job, wonderful friends, my independence.
I also hadn't got laid in three years. Hadn't been on a date in two. Had stopped counting calories and putting on makeup... a while ago.
Then Brett Jacobs waltzed in. Caressed my thigh, dug rough fingers into my hair, lowered his soft mouth to my skin, took sexual control of my mind and stirred it all around with what he packed in his pants. He dumped my quiet life upside down and crawled into a place in my heart I thought was dead.
The issue is his secret. The issue is her. The issue is that I don't even know she exists, and he thinks she's dead. The issue is that everything is about to hit the fan and I can't hold on to him tight enough.
4 Star Review by Lisa Kane
Tight (adj.) allowing little or no room for free motion or movement
Tight was a bit difficult for me to read because of the subject matter. Although it is a contemporary romance, it is also a dark suspense, with some seriously sinister undertones.
Riley is in the Bahamas staying at The Atlantis for her friend's bachelorette party. She's from a small town called Quincy and isn't particularly worldly. She meets a gorgeous, mysterious gentleman by the name of Brett Jacobs who is as attracted to her as she is to him. They have wild, mindblowing sex. He is a yacht salesman. He's obviously rich, and knows what he wants.
When she returns home she never dreams Brett will have any interest in making contact with her again. She figures this was a holiday fling but he surprises her by not only get in touch with her but asking her to see him again. This is the start of a romance filled with weekend trips to the Caribbean and Latin America. He flies her in and out and wines and dines her. Her head is spinning. She is falling for him and quickly.
But something just doesn't add up for her. Riley's father is the Chief of Police in their town and has lots of contacts. She asks him to look into Brett for her. Turns out he has been spinning quite a few tales. He isn't just a yacht salesman, but is wealthy beyond belief. She starts to think about the places they have traveled and wonders if part of his income is coming from drug dealing. The places they go to attract that kind of activity. He is mysterious about his business dealings and she knows he is hiding things from her.
She follows him into a salsa club and the next thing she knows she is being dragged to a car. She has been drugged and can't talk. She awakens to a nightmare and her life will never be the same.
Tight is told by using flashbacks to explain the events that unfolded and why they occurred. Most of the story is from Riley's POV, but there are a few chapters from Brett's It was difficult to read about the things Riley's "Master" did to her in order to break her down. He only calls her by Kitten, she is no longer Riley. She is raped repeatedly, starved, beaten and tortured. But she will not submit. This goes on for months.
As a reader I was wondering how does Brett fall into this? It's obvious he is living a double life. Is he a drug dealer and that is why Riley was in the wrong place at the wrong time? Is anyone looking for her? Is Brett behind her kidnapping? What is he really up to when he travels to these exotic yet dangerous places? Will she ever find freedom again?
Most of my questions were answered by the end of the story. For every hot, steamy moment that Brett and Riley enjoyed, there is one of terror and despair to match it. This is one of those compelling stories that will stay with me long after I finished reading it.
