Synopsis
Dying . . .
Dead . . .
Deceased . . .
It doesn’t matter how many times I say it or how many different names I give it, it still means the same thing. One of these days I’ll be nothing but a passing memory, a familiar face in a forgotten photo. But there's three things I need before this life of mine ends . . .
I need to tell him I love him more than life itself.
I need to feel the strength of his arms wrapped around me just one more night.
Most of all, I need him to forgive me.
Eight years ago I broke the heart of the only man I’ve ever loved and today I’m moving home in hopes that he’ll let me put it back together. I’m not sure how many breaths I have left, but I’ll use each and every last one fighting for what I destroyed.
My name is Laney Jacobs and this is my journey.
4 Star Review by Jen Skewes
Pretty Pink Ribbons is book two in the Touch of Fate series,
but can be read as a stand alone. We
first met Levi in Where I Belong, which is book 1 and I instantly fell in love
with him but knew that there was someone from his past that hurt him enough to
never want to love again. We finally get to meet the woman behind his broken
heart and see what happened between them.
Laney left the only boy that she has ever loved eight years
ago to pursue her dream. In the past
eight years she has never forgotten Levi.
She still loves him and right now needs him more than ever. Unfortunately life throws us some curve balls
and we have to face them head on. Laney
is preparing for the fight of her life but in order to fight she needs to go
back home to be with the people that she loves the most. But she also needs to see Levi, to tell him
that she loves him and in doing so hopes that he will be able to forgive her
and love her again.
Levi has never gotten pat the hurt and heartache when Laney
left him all those years ago. Now that
she is back in town he is not sure if he should run away from her or towards her. It still hurts and he has started to move on,
but seeing her again just brings back all of those feelings. As hard as it is to be near her it is harder to
stay away. But when he learns the real
reasons behind what happened he knows that being with Laney again is worth the
risk. But Laney is keeping something
from him that could either bring them closer together or cause him to go
running. Will Levi stand by her side
while she fights or will he run away not wanting to risk his heart again?
I really loved this book.
I honestly wasn’t sure what this story was about I just knew it was
Levi’s story and couldn’t wait to read it.
I was immediately drawn in and from the very beginning and seeing and
knowing what Laney is about to face in her life I knew this would be one
emotional story. And it most certainly
was! This story felt real and true to
life and a story that I think many woman can relate to. Being in that moment and feeling what Laney
is going through is what made this story both beautiful, at times sad and
emotional. There are also a lot of
happy, uplifting and heart warming moments as well. It is not all sad and depressing and I don’t
want it to come off that way. Once Laney
and Levi opened up to each other about the past and Levi got past his fears
the two of them together were just perfect.
You could feel the love between the two of them and see how much they
meant to each other.
Levi was amazing, which based on what we saw of him in the
first book I knew he would be. As much
as he tried to fight it and pretend he didn’t want Laney he could not deny it.
He was there for her in every way that she needed him to be. The little things
he did for her were so sweet. Laney was
one strong young woman. Being what she
was faced with and her determination and strength is what helped her through. Not to mention the amazing support system
that she had. Not only did she have
Levi, but her brother and her two best friends, Mia and Benny were there for
her every step of the way. And I loved them and I am hoping that they get
their own stories. This book is a
beautfiul story about second chances but I also think it is a story about
strength and determination. I laughed
and cried with these characters. I felt
it all with them. A fantastic job by KL
Grayson.
Excerpt
“I wish it was someone else,” she croaks, swallowing hard. “There are thousands of bad people in the world, but it happened to you.” I watch her eyes fill with tears and then I look away. It’s pathetic of me really; that I’m unable to look my best friend in the face when it’s obvious that she is struggling with this almost as much as I am. But I’ve cried my fair share of tears and although I’m certain my tear ducts have yet to dry up, I don’t want to cry tonight. Somehow I know that if I watch Mia break, then I’ll shatter right along with her.
“I’m glad it’s me.” She gasps, startled by my words, and I rush to try and explain. “If it wasn’t me, it would be someone else, and I would never wish this upon someone else. You know that saying that God will only give you what you can handle?”
She nods.
“Sometimes I tell myself that he just thinks I’m really strong and I can handle it, whereas someone else couldn’t.”
“Does that help?” she asks. “Does that make you feel better about it?”
“No, but it eases my mind. Sometimes when I’m having a good day, it brings me peace, however temporary it may be. But no, it doesn’t make me feel better.”
“Peace,” she whispers, seemingly trying the word on for size. “I want you to have peace.”
