Review: Art & Soul by Brittainy C Cherry
I had always been the invisible art student in high school.
Passed by. Glossed over. Unnoticed.
Now I was Aria Watson… that girl.
After one bad decision, and being labeled a slut, I was no longer unseen. I was the whore. The ignoramus. The tramp.
I would never be invisible again.
Particularly to Levi Myers. He was the odd boy with the beautiful soul who accepted and understood the broken girl inside me.
Falling in love wasn’t the plan. But how could I resist his promises of hope? Of forgiveness? Of a future I had stopped dreaming of?
We were shattered. We were scarred. We were something strange and beautiful.
We were two lost souls holding on to the only thing that could keep us together.
Each other.
4 Wonderful Stars!
Review by Lisa Kane
Aria Watson is an aspiring artist. She's sixteen, a little left of the mainstream from the Barbie dolls that her school is full of, and she's complicated. This high school sophomore is best friends with Simon. He's definitely quirky, and he struggles not to let his OCD take over his life. He is obsessed with doing things in four's, but he can be himself with Aria.
Levi Myers lives in Alabama but is staying in Wisconsin for a bit to stay with his dad. His mom has some mental health issues, and he feels a little guilty for leaving her. He had a fairly good relationship with his dad, but then out of the blue, he stopped hearing from him. So he's not expecting things to be that much better while he's in town.
While Levi is attempting to gain the trust of a deer in the woods, Aria comes upon him. The two have a brief exchange and their mutual curiosities are peaked. When it's time to get on the bus for school, they realize they are both heading the same way. Levi is fresh meat and the topic of hot gossip on every one's lips. But he is drawn to Aria, in spite of her freeze out towards him. They are paired to work on a project together. She will provide the art part of this and he will provide the soul. (he is a prolific musician)
"Don't do this to me, Art. Don't let me keep falling for you. Don't let me love you. Because everything I'd ever loved has a way of falling apart, and the idea of losing you is too much right now. Don't let me keep dreaming. Make me wake up."
But they are both hiding secrets. Aria's revelation will change not only her life but her whole family's. How those around her react will have long lasting repercussions and will leave scars. This may not be some characters' finest hour. Levi also discovers some heart breaking news and he is trying to wrap his head around it. The odds are stacked against these two finding any happiness together. But sometimes love pops up in places when we least expect it.
Brittany Cherry has written a beautifully heartbreaking story about regret and redemption and second chances. Most discredit young love as being fleeting but whether it lasts or not, it is still love. Broken hearts can find their mates and be healed. Levi and Aria are two damaged souls just trying to stay afloat in the sea of chaos surrounding them. But they may just be each other's life preservers too.
We were trying our best to live in the here and now, in the darkness together. We were so broken. We were so worn out from the lives we lived, but tonight we kissed with the broken pieces. We kissed with the fear. We kissed with the anger. We kissed with everything we had inside of us. And then we kissed some more.
