Review by Jen Skewes
When I first read the blurb for this book I knew it was
something that I just had to read. For
one it’s about a hot and sexy hockey player which is one of my favorite sports
romances. But throw in the fact that
the girl he falls for is his best friend's little sister and I am a goner. That story will suck me in every time. And boy did Rhonda Jams do just that. From the moment I started reading this book I
could not put it down. I was completely
submerged in Brantley and Cassie’s world and I did not want to let go.
Cassie Rivers has just transferred to the same college as
her brother in hopes of rekindling their relationship before he moves onto the
pros. Her brother Scotty has always been
there for her and they have always been close but since he went away to college
they seem to have drifted apart. She is
also looking to start fresh and leave the past behind. She wants to pursue her
love of music and spend time with her brother. But then she meets Brantley and things
change. When she first meets Brantley
let’s say it was a very interesting first meeting. And
from that moment you could tell that they had a connection. But once Brantley finds out who she is, he
knows that she is off limits.
Brantley Cage is one of the star players at Great Lakes
University and he too is on his way to the pros. Hockey is everything to him. He has had his fair share of women in the
past and has even been burned before which is really his reason for not wanting
a relationship again. He doesn’t want
love. He’s been there and look where it
got him. But then he meets his best
friend’s sister and there is no denying the connection that they have. He wants her and not just in a physical way,
but he knows he needs to stay away. But
when Cassie needs help he cannot say no and they end up starting a wonderful
friendship. But they both know that a
friendship is not enough. They are
falling for each other and staying away just keeps getting harder and harder. But is being with Cassie worth losing his
best friend over and worth risking his heart?
I really loved this book and I specifically love
Brantley. There was one moment where he
kind of pissed me off and broke me a little.
It was honestly a moment that I think I was waiting for but at the same
time hated when it happened. It is also
a big pet peeve of mine. So of course it
bothered me some, but I have to say regardless of Brantley’s mistakes he had my
heart. He kept redeeming himself. He was so sweet and kind and protective of
Cassie and that is what I loved about him.
I think there was also a vulnerable side to him as well. Being hurt in the past, wanting Cassie in a
way that he shouldn’t and afraid of losing his best friend. He was such a great character who I adored.
Cassie was a strong woman especially considering what she
went through before switching schools. I
have to say that I really did feel for her.
When it came to her relationship with her brother I wanted to punch him,
I really did. He was just so selfish and
he just may me mad on so many occasions.
Cassie was such a loveable person and when things kept seeming to fall
apart or didn’t go as expected, Brantley was the one who was there for
her. And he had his own issues and a
broken way about him as well. When he needed
her she was there. They needed each
other for comfort and friendship but you could see and feel that what they had
was so much more. This is one couple
that I was rooting for from the very beginning.
Rhonda James did an amazing job with this book. She definitely made me feel. As I mentioned Brantley made some mistakes and
she made me feel the hurt right along with Cassie. I felt what she felt. Snd then Ms. James
managed to make my heart melt yet again because of Brantley Cage. They had their ups and downs but they had the
most beautiful friendship. I loved how
much they were there for each other to listen and give comfort. I loved the flirting between them, the fun
times that they had. But I also felt the
moments that hurt as well. But aside
from all that I especially loved watching their friendship turn into so much more. These two belonged together.
In the end Scotty did redeem himself and I really hope he
finds a girl that is worthy of him and someone that wants what he wants. There was another supporting character who I
adored and that was Davis. He was there for
both Brantley and Cassie and times when they needed it and he was just one of
those friends that everyone needs in their life. I cannot wait for his book. This is my first book by this author and it
will not be my last.

This was hands down a BEST BOOK OF 2016 for me! It was a total 5 star read that I will recommend to anyone who loves a great "friends to lovers", "older brother's best friend" or "sports" romance. - J. Hodges
I loved how the author incorporated hockey and music together.. how she gave us a play by play of the games or the music process and how impeccable she was with both subjects.. and that ending I was just seriously blown away! - Logan Hr
