Review Tour: Mack Daddy by Penelope Ward

mack daddy available

From New York Times bestselling author, Penelope Ward, comes a sexy, STANDALONE second-chance romance.

They called him Mack Daddy. No, seriously, his name was Mack. Short for Mackenzie. Thus, the nickname. Perfect, right?

So was he: perfect. The perfect physical male specimen.

At the private school where I taught, Mack Morrison was the only man around in a sea of women.

Everyone wanted a piece of the hot single father of the sweet little boy.

I was riddled with jealousy, because they didn’t know that—to me—he was much more.

They didn’t know about our past.

He’d chosen my school for his son on purpose, because Mack and I, we had unfinished business.

As my friend Lorelai so eloquently put it: “Unfinished business between two people who are clearly attracted to each other is like an eternal case of blue balls.” And I was suffering in pain from my case.

I was still intensely attracted to Mack. I tried to resist him, immersing myself further into a relationship with another man just to protect my heart.

Not to mention, getting involved with a parent was strictly against school rules. But seeing Mack day in and day out was breaking me down.

And soon I might be breaking all the rules.

Author's note – Told in alternating points of view, Mack Daddy is a full-length standalone novel.

Review by Lisa Kane

Mackenzie Morrison’s son Jonah is starting first grade. But he’s not just starting at any school. No he’s starting at St Matthew’s in the outskirts of Boston and his teacher is Francesca, the same woman that Mack shares a history with. She couldn’t be more surprised to see him, but he quickly explains that when he and Jonah and Jonah’s mom Torrie moved to Boston he knew that she would be the perfect teacher for his son. Never mind that Francesca can hardly catch her breath at seeing him again.
Not only was Mackenzie Morrison standing right in front of me, but he looked even more amazing than I could recall. He was everything I remembered, just magnified. His muscles were even more defined, and gritty stubble peppered his angular jaw.
The hurt of him leaving her years ago feels like it just happened all over again.  Is it a coincidence that his son is in her class? Why is this happening after all this time?
“I know I fucked everything up between us, but I’ve never forgotten you. Not a single day.”
A lot has changed in Mack’s life, but his feelings for Frankie as he calls her, haven’t. He knows more than anyone how things were screwed up but he wants a chance to make things right with her. He knows she’s with someone else. He’s stayed in touch with a mutual friend so he knows most of what is going on in Frankie’s life. He has the advantage on her, since she knows very little about his life after he left her.
But Mack is persistent. He eventually wears her down. But Frankie loves Vic the man who has been with her for the last two years. He makes her feel safe and loved.
"I love you, Vic." I truly did love him. My feelings for him may not have been fueled by the same crazy passion I'd once felt toward Mack, but they were real just the same.
Oh, how I adore angst. The kind that makes my stomach flip flop. The kind that makes me want to turn the pages one after the other, but at the same time the kind that is afraid to find out what those pages hold. Will their be a moment where the other shoe drops? One where I find out that the guy I have been rooting for has secrets that will hurt my heart? Will I recover? So many questions, so many delicious moments!
Will Frankie take a chance on Mack? Does he have too much baggage for even the most deep rooted love to overcome?

I had no doubt that I was exactly where I was meant to be.
