5 Fantastic Stars!

Review by Allison East

LOVE Rebecca Yarros. Full Measures was one of my top reads last year, and Eyes Turned Skyward will easily make that list too. Number one- hot book boyfriend, totally swoon-worthy, add him to your list. Jagger Bateman, don't ever forget it! Number two- kick ass sassy heroine, with issues of her own. Paisley is such a great heroine- almost as good as Ember from Full Measures. Number three- EVERYTHING ELSE. The plot was well formed, the characters showed growth and development, it had an awesome epilogue, the whole nine yards. You will not be let down when you pick up a Rebecca Yarros book, and certainly this book will be a favorite of yours, if you love new adult like I do!

Paisley Donovan wants to truly live her life to the fullest. After her sister died in a freak accident, because of a heart condition they knew nothing about, Paisley is determined to complete a crazy bucket list of sorts, before she thinks she will fall to the same fate. Paisley has the same heart condition and either she gets a pace maker, or she goes through with a risky surgery. But before she makes the decision, she decides to go on a small beach vacation with her friend. Little did she know she would meet Mr. California- and he would change the course of her life forever. Paisley is dating Carter- her twin sister's best friend. Who I assumed the whole time was only dating Paisley to feel close to her sister. But after that meeting with Mr. California, her attraction for him overrides all the feelings she may have for Carter, and she can't figure out why.

Mr. California, turns out, is Jagger Bateman. Can I just say- SA-WOON! I loved him from the very first moment I met him in this book. First he sounded hot, funny, and cocky when we first meet him, which I loved. Then he didn't hesitate to save Paisley's life when she got into some serious trouble. Double swoon! He is damn fine, and completely freaking mouthwatering. He is everything that a book boyfriend is supposed to be. And he is so damn loyal it hurts just thinking about it. Side note- his father is a douche canoe, so we will just call him the sperm donor, because lord knows Jagger is not a product of that man.

Another part of the story- Jagger and Paisley hold a lot of important information from one another, which proves to be super heartbreaking. It was so intense I found myself holding my breath. I wanted to shake the both of them and scream- TELL EACH OTHER!! Communication is key, and I have finally figured out, after years and years of reading- angst is what keeps it intriguing. If it was just a hunky dory love story, I don't think I would have liked it as much. I loved the twists and turns, it was fantastically done. I can't wait for more from Rebecca, I think she has an impeccable writing style that I have fallen in love with. I love her books and want more characters from both of these stories to have their story told. You won't be disappointed when you read one of her books!
