Review: A Missing Heart by Shari J. Ryan

I’ve made mistakes. Some of those mistakes have ruined lives, including my own.

Because of this, my past is something I have kept to myself, so when I found a woman who also wanted her past to remain hidden, it felt like the universe was pushing us together.

It turns out the universe had nothing to do with that.

If a person’s past doesn’t exist, the present may not unravel the way it should.

I found out the hard way, when I learned that my wife is not who I thought she was…living with a past I should know about. Her continuous self-destructive behaviors let me know she clearly has a plan—possibly one I never should have been a part of. I keep trying to save her, but she’s making it hard.

Now, both of our pasts have simultaneously rolled into the spotlight—colliding head-on, and causing the present to come crashing down on top of us.

I learned that since our pasts are part of who we are, they will always be the foundation of our present and our future.

The question I have is, will either of us walk away in one piece?

Review by Jen Skewes

The first book that I read by Ms. Ryan was A Heart of Time, which I loved.  But it wasn’t until I started to actually read A Missing Heart that I realized that this was AJ’s story.   If you read A Heart of Time this is Hunter’s brother who I loved.  So when I realized who this story was about I couldn’t have been more excited.  Ms. Ryan delivered another emotional story that completely pulled at my heart strings.  She did not disappoint with this one.

When AJ met Tori they both agreed to keep their pasts in the past where they belonged.  They are both very broken people who do not want to share what they have been through and felt it was best to move on and not discuss it.    But when they find out that Tori is pregnant things between them begin to change and after their son is born, AJ sees that maybe his wife is not the person he thought she was.  And maybe hiding their pasts wasn’t the best idea, because somehow those pasts will always come back to haunt you and in ways completely destroy the present. However I do think that in AJ and Tori’s situation, their pasts coming back brought them both to a place where they were meant to be.

As a teenager AJ had a love that was like no other.  It was one of those loves that no matter how young you are you know it will last forever.  But circumstances beyond their control tore him and Cammy apart.  It is now 13 years later, when he comes face to face with his first love and all the pain, hurt and most of all the love that goes with it.  With his current marriage falling apart, a wife who he has no idea who she really is and his one true love back in his life, how will AJ handle it all?  Will him and Cammy get their second chance at love?

I loved this book so much and loved the emotions that it brought out in me.  For one AJ is an amazing man.  He is so clearly broken but yet he is so strong.  He is the type of man that will do everything to make the situation right, he will do what it take to make others happy and what is best for them.  But I think in a way that caused him to lose himself a little.  He wasn’t happy but trying to do what was right in a way came first for him.  I admired it but at the same time just wanted this man to find true happiness.  He has been through so much that he deserved to find true love and be happy again.  For me the only person who really brought out the best in him and the one person that he was truly himself with was Cammy.

AJ went through so many emotions and one in particular was guilt.   And what I loved about this story is that I felt the emotions with him.  I wanted nothing more than for him to find happiness with Cammy again.  I saw how much these two loved each other and even after 13 years apart their connection was just as strong as it was when they were 17.  It was as if they had spent no time apart.  But then there was Tori and what this woman was going through.  And at some point I felt guilty for wanting him to just walk away.  But at the same time I was so mad at Tori for everything she put him thorough, even knowing her past and her reasons for it.

Cammy was just an amazing person who I loved so much, even though I didn’t agree with her decisions or the way she handled them. But I still loved her and felt the love that this woman had.

A Missing Heart is an emotional story about love, guilt, second chances and so much more.  It deals with some heavy topics but the author did an amazing job with the way she handled it all.  I loved that we got to see AJ’s past so we could truly understand and feel where all of his pain has come from.  I love a book where you can feel with the characters, where you connect with them and feel like you are going through it all with them.  And this book did just that.  Another fantastic hob by Ms. Ryan.

Review: Scoring Her by Max Monroe

Blurb:
The end of the Billionaire Bad Boy era, the series comes to a close.

From Kline and Benny to Wes and Winnie with Thatch and Cassie in between, spend time with the characters that have stolen the hearts of both each other and readers alike, and meet the men of the upcoming spinoff series Mavericks Tackle Love.

If you'd like to use this "disclaimer" instead of the blurb in an effort to mix things up, we encourage that as well:

Disclaimer: 9 out of 10 early readers claimed some combination of heart palpitations, sobbing, and incoherent muttering about it "not being the end" when coming to the final pages of Scoring Her. Use caution when reading.
*Some evidence suggests the Acknowledgements may lessen the side effects enough to breathe normally again.

Review by Lisa Kane

Max Monroe's books should come with a warning-"Read at Your Own Risk". Nothing is off limits when it comes their writing and lord knows that Georgie and Kline, Cassie and Thatch and Winnie and Wes have no boundaries.

The three couples are enjoying some R and R with the New York Maverick football team at the Atlantis on Paradise Island. It's a great PR opportunity, not to mention an excuse for them to get a free vacation. Cassie and Thatch have little Ace with them and have been busy scheming to keep Georgie and Kline babysitting for them. These two are horn dogs and now that Cassie has been cleared for action, they don't want to waste any time getting back in the saddle.
"Do you think you could put some clothes on, guys? Sheesh, I've been standing out here for what feels like eternity while you and Kline were bringing it home."

Georgie and Kline are dealing with some serious baby making issues. Both are desperate to become parents but the fertility gods have not been smiling down on them. They adore baby Ace but would love one of their own.
I had a wonderful and loving husband. A healthy life. I literally wanted for nothing.
But when it came to having a child of my own, I wanted for everything.

Wes and Winnie are pretty much issue free. Wes is totally smitten with Winnie's daughter Lexi and his biggest concern is making his favorite girls officially his. This is one guy who can't wait to put a ring on it.

"She is my daughter," he whispered into my ear. "Our daughter. We're a family-me, you, and Lex. We're a family."

Anytime these nutjobs all get together expect shenanigans galore. There's no subject off limit. Anal, toys, penis size-keep it coming! They push each other's limits and drive each other crazy. But they wouldn't change anything.

Leaning on each other, literally, there wasn't one of us who doubted we'd be able to do it forever-for whatever we needed.

About J.B. McGee:

2016-bw

J.B. McGee is a mother, wife, and the Amazon Top 100 author of the best-selling This Series. Amazon Crossing acquired the German rights to her debut novel, Broken. Heartfall, her coming of age novel about a bullied ballerina, is a #1 best seller in the Teen and Young Adult Performing Arts genre. Skipping Stones, a military romance about a young woman strongly influenced by her faith and her family all the while searching for her true love, is a #1 best seller in Women's Christian Fiction.

When J.B.'s not writing, she enjoys reading as well as watching and live-chatting her favorite television shows with her friends. Her favorite shows are Quantico, Blindspot, Grey’s Anatomy, The Bachelor/Bachelorette, Below Deck, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and Scandal (mainly because of her love of Scott Foley).

Born and raised in Aiken, South Carolina, she attended Converse College and eventually earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education from The University of South Carolina-Aiken in 2006.

In college, she was told by her children’s literature professor she would be the one student from her class to be an author. McGee shook her head and laughed. But in 2012, over six years after that statement was made and after a love of reading had been reignited, she gave writing a shot. J.B. gladly ate crow when she emailed her first book to the above mentioned children’s literature professor thanking her and acknowledging the accuracy of her prophecy.

In 2011, it was discovered that not only do both of her children, but also she and her husband, have mitochondrial disease. Affecting 1 in 2500 people, it has no cure or treatments. Being a writer allows J.B. to care for her family’s unique needs while also providing a platform for raising awareness for this disease.

She is a hopeless romantic who loves to escape into fairy tales—some she reads and some she creates.

J.B. McGee and her family now reside in Buford, Georgia.

Review by Lisa Kane

Fiona Davenport's novels have hot alpha's who have insta love for the objects of their affections. NSTM follows this pattern.

Landon Heath is a gorgeous, hot millionaire who runs his family's construction company. Zoe Elliot has been in America on a work visa from Canada for the last two months. Pretty much from the moment Landon laid eyes on her, he's asked her out. Non stop. And Zoe's always said no. She can't afford to have anything go wrong with her job or she will have to go back to Canada. She loves her huge family back home, but she is loving making her own way over here.

But something has gone wrong and the US Citizenship and Immigration Services wants to ask her a few questions. She's scared to death she's going to be sent back. Enter Landon. This situation works in his favor. He knows just what will keep Zoe in this country. She'll marry him-that way she can stay and he can have her. Forever.

When Landon tells Zoe his plan, she thinks he's lost it. Who marries someone that they've never even dated? Landon that's who. With military precision he plans and executes his mission to marry Zoe. If she happens to get pregnant with his baby along the way-all the better.

This is a short, hot novella full of caveman like motives and alpha demands. Zoe is sweet if a bit naive. Landon is obsessed and over the top.

EXCERPT
I dug through the
pile and found the envelope she was referring to at the bottom. It was impossible
to miss with US Citizenship and Immigration Services listed on the upper left
corner.
“Crap. Crap. Crap,”
I chanted to myself as I tore it open. Then it turned to “fuck, fuck, fuck” as
my heart dropped. I read through the letter quickly the first time around, and
then much more slowly to make sure I wasn’t misunderstanding what it said.
Unfortunately, the meaning didn’t change the second time around.
“I’m fucked,” I
groaned.
“Not yet you
aren’t,” Landon growled from the door as he barged into my office and slammed
it shut. “If you were, I’d know it because I’d be the one doing the fucking.”
His raspy voice slid
over my skin and heated it. Just the sound of him talking had my panties wet,
and I’d been avoiding him all this time because I’d thought he’d be the reason
why I had visa problems.
“All those wasted
opportunities,” I muttered.
“Not wasted,” he
corrected. “Foreplay.”
“I don’t have time
for this right now, Landon. Not when my whole world is falling apart,” I cried,
waving the letter in the air.
“You sound as bad
as Samantha did when she told me to get my ass in here.” He tore it from my
hands, and I dropped my head to my desk while he read through the letter.
“It’s just an
additional interview, Zoe,” he said soothingly, in a failed attempt to calm me
down.
“My visa was approved by an
immigration officer at the border two months ago. It was easy peasy. I showed
him my TN visa application letter, my bachelor’s degree, and my passport. I
answered some questions about how long I planned to stay in the country. About how
often I planned to go home to see my family. Boom, I was approved. Which means
they shouldn’t have any additional questions for me,” I retorted as I jumped to
my feet and paced back and forth. “Except, someone apparently has it in for me
since they received a tip that I lied about my intent to stay here for only
three years. Who would do something like that?”
“Calm the fuck
down,” he ordered, as though it was that simple.
“Calm down?” I
parroted. “That’s easy for you to say since you’re not the one in danger of
being deported!”
“Neither are you.”
“I beg to
differ”—I stormed towards him and jabbed my finger in his chest, absently
noticing how firm it was—“since an appointment at an immigration field office
sure sounds like the start to yanking my work visa to me.”
“You know what?”
he drawled. “Don’t calm down. Feel free to freak the fuck out because in the
end that will work out even better for me.”
“What in the heck
are you talking about?”
“I’m talking about
you and me, Zoe. You’ve been denying what’s happening between us for two,
fucking long as hell months,” he growled, his eyes lit with determination.
“You’ve used your work visa as an excuse to keep yourself away from me. Well
guess what, Blondie? Giving in to me is your way out of this mess.”
“I still have
absolutely no idea what you mean. Maybe you can dumb it down for me since I’m
blonde and all,” I muttered sarcastically, not a big fan of his nickname for
me.
“Fine,” he bit
out. “I’ll make it as simple as one word—marriage.”
“What? No,” I
gasped. “We haven’t even been out on a date!”
“And whose fault
is that?” he countered. “It certainly wasn’t for a lack of trying on my part.
If I’d had my way, you wouldn’t have a single doubt about how damn serious I
am.”
