Review: Sweet Sinful Night by Lauren Blakely

She was the one who got away…
Ten years ago, Brent Nichols let the love of his life slip through his fingers. It’s his greatest regret, especially since she’s all but disappeared. But when the gorgeous and captivating woman walks into his life unexpectedly, he’s determined to win her back. Whatever it takes, he won’t make the same mistake twice.
Easier said than done…
Shannon Paige has hardened her heart to the man she was once engaged to be married to. After the way he left, and after the hell she’s been through with her checkered family, there’s no way she’s letting him into her life again. The problem is, the second she sees him, he’s more handsome and charming than before. And she’s torn between wanting to fight with him and wanting to sleep with him -- Maybe both. Soon they fall into each other’s arms, consumed with a desire that burns through the years.
But if these two fiery lovers are going to have a real second chance at this kind of intense, passionate, bone-deep love, he’ll have to give her his whole heart, and she’ll have to give up all the secrets from her messy past.
And that messy past is about to spill over into her carefully constructed present…
SWEET SINFUL NIGHTS is book one in SINFUL NIGHTS, a four-book series. Each book will follow a new couple.

5 Amazing Stars!

Review by Natasha Gentile

This book, this book was hot.  I was so excited when I found out she was writing this book.  I wanted it unedited, I didn’t care, I just wanted it.  Sadly she said I would have to wait.  But let’s just say that the wait was so worth it.

She was the one who got away…

Brent Nichols was engaged to Shannon Paige.  Their future already written in the stars, or at least traced.

They lived, happily in a small rinky dink apartment biding their time until they would make the move to New York, him to write comedy, hers to train dancers.  It was the way it was always supposed to be, until he made the decision to change the plans on her, without asking.

He assumed she would follow, I mean she had to, they couldn’t be without each other that part was for sure.  She was the beat to his heart, surly she wouldn’t say no.

“If you don’t go with me, there’s no point staying together.” He said, making his Hail Mary pass.  He had to do something.  He couldn’t lose her.  He had to let her know his way was the only way for them.”

Ten years later, they had both moved on from the past.  Brent became one of the most successful late night show writers, Shannon started her own business  having her own dance troop to choreograph.

Brent got out of the writing business and got into the night club business.  Now he’s knocking down doors.  But then he comes face to face with the love of his life 10 years later.  His mind starts wondering if you can go back again.

His pulse pounded.
His throat went dry.
The floor tilted and loomed closer.  The glass walls zoomed in.  He blinked.
He was seeing a mirage.  Either that or he’d slipped back in time, because there was no other explanation.
After all those years, there she was, in the flesh.

And just like that she is back under his skin.  She has been there, with him before and it ended with her heart being ripped from her chest.  Learning to live without the one thing you need in order to breathe was the worse thing she could do, but she did it, and she wasn’t going back for more. Except the pull, it was stronger than her.

When she was near to him like that, she couldn’t think straight.  She could only feel.  And that was far too dangerous for her heart.

Nothing, nothing can be better than knowing that not only is he under your skin, but that you have weaved your way into his veins.

She crossed her legs, one bare-skinned calf sliding against the other.  His breath hitched.  Those legs.  Those gorgeous, sexy legs.  They were his downfall, his weakness, and his downfall, his weakness, and his complete obsession.  They were an altar he’d pray at.

The pull to each other was so strong.  He is more handsome than she ever imagined he would be.  She is more beautiful than he remembered. It was like going home, they were always each other’s home.

He consumed her lips.  He kissed her hard, and greedily, and the world around him turned black and small.  It faded into a speck of nothingness because there was room for nothing else in his world but her.

She just can’t let him in, at least not fully.  He can’t stop trying to win her back.  He is fighting tooth and nail to make sure this time around he isn’t walking away from her.  Except what happens when there is a secret from the past that is shown to you?  Do you stay and fight or do you leave her in the cold sweet sinful night?

Lauren Blakely has done it again.  She has started a new series that you will want to read.  It is hot, it is sassy, it is heart breaking, it is a bit of a mystery.  It is everything that you want in a book and more, and I want more so much more.  I can’t wait for the rest of the books in the series.

Does wanting to slap the hell out of Brody Kelly make me a bad person? How about setting his hair on fire?

No, I'm not a psycho.

Yes, I AM angry.

See, a year ago, my sweet and sexy firefighter boyfriend and I broke up over something extremely ridiculous. We'd been together since we were sophomores in high school, but that was the end of that. Almost twelve years of that, mind you.

The looks he gives me tell me he still wants me. Our latest encounter has me thinking he's trying to win me back.

But I'm not willing to give in so easily.

I don't know why he used our argument as an excuse to break up, but I'm going to find out. I've lived in Serenity Point all my life and have connections and I’m not afraid to use them to get to the bottom of things.

What I am afraid of is finding something I won’t be able to handle.

He used to call me his Always and Forever.

But the secrets he’s keeping might tear us apart for good.

4.5 Stars by Lisa Kane

Wouldn't it be nice if our days were filled with the first few moments of waking that we experience when everything's uncomplicated and sweet and innocent? But I guess they've already discovered how to make that happen. It's called Xanax.

Piper Knowlton and Brody Kelly have been together since their sophomore year of high school. Twelve years later and things are still going strong. Up until Piper goes out of town to see her sister's new baby, Addie. When she comes back, Brody is distant, but she doesn't think much of it. It seemed as if he wanted to tell her something and then he would just change the subject. Then they have the most ridiculous fight about children. Piper wants 2 and Brody insists they have to have 5. It all gets blown out of proportion and they fight off and on for three days about it. After they make love one night, he gets up, tells her "he couldn't do this anymore" and that they were over. He got dressed and left. No matter how many times she tried to talk to him, he avoided her.

They live in a small town named Serenity Point-you know the type-everyone knows everyone else's business. Brody and Piper were the unofficial town sweethearts. He just became a fireman and she owns a small shop, Knowlton's Knick Knacks selling vintage items and antiques. It's been a year since their break up and she's tried to move on. She had a couple of dates with a great guy named Alex, but she just wasn't ready to let go of Brody. It didn't help that on one of the dates they ran into Brody-who seemed pissed that she was out with someone.

But she sees him on the street and for the first time she didn't cry afterwards. She thinks maybe, finally, she is ready to let go. Her sisters Greer and Ryan have been the ones to keep her centered, to keep her going on.

"Does this mean I'm over him?" I whisper?
She purses her lips and shrugs. "I don't know Piper. Let's just say it's a start, okay?"

But he shows up at her shop and wants to talk to her. Why after all this time? I't s because his pet fish, Dory died. The one they won together at a carnival. Huh? She can't believe after all this time; he wants to talk to her, after ignoring her for over a year and because of a dead fish. So she lets him have it and tells him today was the first day she didn't cry after seeing him.

He misses me.

Because a fish died.
He misses me.
Because now I guess he's realizing he's truly alone.
Just like I've been for the past year.
And he hasn't talked to me in such a long time.
But he finally comes to me because of an idiotic fish.

She is moving on and he wants to know if it's because of the guy she's been seeing (you mean the one she had 2 dates with 3 months ago?) She lets him know she hasn't been able to move on and it's his fault. He eats that up with a spoon.

"And what's more is, he didn't have a problem with me only wanting two kids!" total lie because Alex and I never talked about kids.

"You listen to me, Piper, and listen good. I love you. You're mine! I wanted to rip that f#*ker's head off when I saw him with you and Jen's but knew I had no right. I've got a right now."

Hmmm...things are getting down right interesting!

Piper is determined not to let this set her back. She's spent a year of her life going over and over things trying to understand why Brody broke up with her after all these years. Did he fall out of love with her? Did she do something wrong? He isn't dating anyone that she knows of but then why?

And it's quite lovely under the water, the only sound being the solid thrum of my heart beating in my ears. And it's my heart, a heart that's been destroyed this past year, completely obliterated, yet on it beats, that fills me with a sense of pride knowing that I myself didn't break.

In every small town there is a bitch. Never fails. And Peyton, she gives new meaning to the word bitch. It's no secret this town slut has wanted Brody for a good long time. But when she keeps dropping hints to Piper about things with Brody, it's all about to explode wide open. And when Piper puts the pieces together and confronts Brody about it-my stomach was in knots and I swear big, fat ugly tears rolled down my face for this girl. Her heart is shattered; it's all she can do not to collapse to her knees in front of Brody. I hated him, I wanted to take one of the station's fire hoses and choke the living hell out of this man. But I knew he loved her, I knew this guy was suffering. I just kept holding on to hope...

I turn, and latching onto Ryan's arm to keep me from crashing to the floor, walk out of the station as dignified as I can, or as much as someone whose whole world utterly and completely crashes and burns right before her very eyes.

Most of the remainder of the book is Piper trying to get over the devastation from Brody's secrets and Brody trying to get Piper back. But does he deserve a chance to explain?

Brody: Baby, I'm sorry about everything. I want to explain. Please give me a chance.

What do you do? Do you throw away every trace of this man from your life, this same man who has been a part of you since you were 16 or do you at least listen to what he has to say before you pour gasoline on his car and watch it burn?

"You're so right. But I wanna explain it all to you. Should've done it in the first place but I guess I was scared of losing you. Lost you anyway."

These were the parts in the story that just crushed me -for both of them.

"I-I don't want to hear anymore," I protest, my hands curling up to his forearms trying to pry them off me.
"Baby," he whispers, his lips at the top of my head. "I know it's hard to hear. I'm sorry. But I want you to know everything."

At this point I wasn't sure I wanted to know everything!

"I don't know if I can," I whisper as tears sting the backs of my eyes.
"You can, he says at my ear. "You're strong. I know that now. I want you to know everything as we can move forward."

Once it was all out there, I swear I felt like a limp dishrag. My head was about to explode and my eyes were so swollen. But those moments, as hard as they were to read, are the times that Brody was at his most vulnerable. Opening his heart up, bearing his soul.

As angsty as this book is, there are so many witty, funny moments that take the edge off the tension. It is an absolute delight.

"Guess she was a hit and run then."
A screw and flew," she says.
"A f#*k and duck."
"A nail and bail."
A hump and jump."
"A hit and flit."
"A smash and dash."
A root and scoot."

Be prepared to love Brody when you want to hate him, to laugh when you know you should be crying and to love Piper beyond belief. I loved this book so much I am going back and reading Bigger Than the Sky. (Brody's brother Kade's story)

Brody: I love you too, baby. Can't wait for you to be mine.
Me: Always...
Brody: and Forever

He’s ignored me when we’ve passed each other on the street, seemingly content in not even acknowledging my presence even though I’ve caught him staring at me every other time but always from a distance.
And now he says he misses me. And he says it on the day I didn’t tear up when I saw him and hoped it meant I was finally getting over him.
And now I’m chewing on my thumbnail, damn it.
I lower my arm and feel my hands ball into fists at my sides gritting my teeth because I want to bash his friggin’ face in then yell at him or vice versa. Either works. But then I remember myself, remember that I’m in my store and that anyone could come through the door at any time and I wouldn’t want to lose business because I’ve turned into a raging bitch. I breathe in deeply through my nose and let it out trying to calm myself which works for the moment. “You miss me…” I state quietly, my eyes narrowed as they remain locked on his.
I see his jaw muscles jump as he stares back at me. Then he nods slowly.
Well, this is just too much.
I huff out a laugh, putting my hands on my hips. “I think it might be too late, Brody,” I state a little snottily, seeing his eyes go hard upon hearing that. Whatever.
“What’re you saying, Piper?”
I shrug nonchalantly although every muscle in my body is tight. “I saw you walking to Mags’ earlier and to be honest, I felt nothing. After more than a year of wanting to cry every time I saw you, today that didn’t happen.” I shrug again to get the point across even as my heart’s beating a hundred miles an hour in my chest.

Lord, help us all...

4 Star Review by Lisa Kane

You can not go wrong with a book by RS Grey. Her writing is witty and satirical and sexy. The Allure of Julian Lefray is no exception.

Josephine Keller is a fashion blogger from Texas, who writes What Jo Wore.  She just moved to the big city-New York a few weeks ago and is struggling to make it. Her rent is high, her student loans are high but her prospects are short. Her parents think this is a phase and it should have ended after two weeks. But is creative and quirky and has a knack for what the hot trends will be and how the average girl can get in on the cheap. She has an invite in her hands for one of the hottest events of the year.

But when she gets there-there seems to be a snag and they can't find her name on the list. So she has plenty of time to people watch. That's when she spots drop dead gorgeous Julian Lefray and makes some serious eye contact. He, of course, has no problem getting in and she loses him in the crowd.

This would be my luck. I was this close to really taking my career to the next level and then life decided to give me an ol' "not so fast sister" slap in the face. Life is an evil bitch sometimes.

Eventually they find her name, (it was misspelled) and she runs into Mr. Hotness once again. When she learns he is taking over for his sister, Lorena at Lorena Lefray Designs, she attempts to tell him she just applied for the assistant job. He is intrigued by her (the story is in both their POV's) and he arranges to interview her.

"Julian! I Wasn't sure if you'd make it. I'd assume things were too hectic with your family right now."
"It was a last minute decision. You know how I like to fly by the seat of my pants."
If I was a provocative temptress from a James Bond movie, I'd had picked up my champagne, held his eye as I took a sip, and then seductively whispered, "Is there room for two on that flight in your pants?"

Yep, she gets the job and she is more than up for the challenge. She is savvy with social media and that is something that has been lacking for the Lefray label. Julian has his hands full-his sister is dealing with some addiction issues and he is trying his best to get her company back on track. It's practically in ruins and is in desperate need on an overhaul.

Julian and Josephine fight their attraction. The old adage of not sleeping with the help is first and foremost in their minds. Of course their naughty bits ignore that advice. Egging them both on are their friends Dean and Lily. Dean is a rich, famous restaurant owner, who has the Midas touch. Just about every restaurant and bar he opens becomes the "in" place to be. Lily, Josephine's best friend lives in Texas and is moving to NYC to room with her. She has a food blog and trained at culinary school. I smell a sequel with these two!

Her lackluster finances cause Jo to seek a night job and that job is going to change her life in ways she never thought possible. A visit home to see her folks (via the Greyhound bus ride from hell) is going to be a catalyst for Julian to finally get a wake up call about Jo.

Why did it feel like she was leaving for good?

As usual, Ms. Grey's characters are so multi dimensional and seem so real that you will laugh and snort and hum to yourself about their dialogue. This author can write funny like few can. This one is such a pleasure to read!

I am a lover of books, chocolate, reality TV, black labs, and cold weather. Seriously, if I had it my way, I would be curled up on the couch with all of those things... everyday.

I live in Texas where I spend my free time writing and reading. My favorite authors include Mindy Kaling & Jonathan Safran Foer. I'm a comedy geek and love all things "funny". Women like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Mindy Kaling are definitely the biggest inspirations for my writing, though I think my work tends to skew a bit smuttier than theirs.

4 Star Review by Lisa Kane

Mia needs a change. she's in her mid twenties and she's in a rut. Oh, and did I mention that she's also a virgin? She's had a couple of fumbling attempts to lose her V- card but nothing has panned out. But she has a plan. Two years ago, her brother Harry (the two of them are as close as siblings can get) let it slip over Christmas cocktails that his best friend Matt Quinn was busy servicing one of his dates. Her curiosity piqued, it didn't take long for Mia to track down all the dirty details about Matt's servicing skills. Seems he's an escort at DTF, a hunk for hire service. Mia had a brief encounter with Matt and was pretty god smacked by the Adonis look alike. This is the guy she is planning on giving her virginity to and sets her plan in motion.

Mia reaches out to Quinn (his "service" name) via email. She may lack self esteem, (she was once overweight and a little frumpy) but there is a certain appeal in her shyness and that is what ultimately caught Quinn's attention. He's been with hundreds of women and it's the shy ones that he prefers. He is intrigued by Maya  (the name she uses in her emails with him. He has no idea that this is the little sister of his best friend Harry. All he knows about her is that she has moved back to the same city where they both live, she has a new apartment and she's about to start a new job.

I'd met her once, at a Christmas party hosted by their family five years earlier, but since I was caught up in my own bullshit, I'd had so much to drink that most of the night was a blur.

Their emails start out innocently enough and then the heavy, flirty banter comes into play. Mia feels guilty, because she knows if Harry knew what his Minnie (his nickname for her)  was up to he would go ape shit. But Quinn shows a vulnerable side to her and the two make plans for their first "date". They begin to rely on their texts and soon it becomes phone calls. No matter how lousy their day is, a couple of minutes spent talking with the other seems to do the trick. But lines are starting to get crossed and Quinn isn't getting the same satisfaction from his work as he used to. He finds himself thinking about Maya at the most inopportune times.

Will they hit it off when they finally come face to face? Can Mia ever tell Quinn who she really is? Will Quinn ever want to leave the escort business?

"I promise you, Maya, the best sex is always dirty and messy and shocking. That's the kind of sex that stems from passion. It's incredible."

I'm not usually a fan of escort romances, but this one had the right combination of humor, and wit and sex. There's always that fantasy about these kinds of stories-the guy's had hundreds of women and yet one in particular brings him to his knees, and not just to get down to business. There was a strong chemistry between them, Mia may have been innocent sexually, but she is no shrinking wallflower. She excels at her job, is one smart cookie and has had life slap her around a bit. Quinn is suave and worldly and yet he is no jerk. He had his reasons for living the life he chose and he makes no apologies for it. Their connection is believable and the story works. There are some fantastic secondary characters-particullary Harry, Mia's brother. He has had a colorful past himself and had his heart shattered. I'd love to see him get his HEA too. Besides, he give great advice:

Don't make a man a priority if he only makes you an option.

3.5 Star Review by Jennifer Hagen

Reprisal front cover (1).jpgWow…How about that ending to Contrite?  I was beyond excited to find out there was going to be a sequel.  I thought for certain I was going to have to live my life never knowing for certain if it was Trent or Turner  whom Clove was talking to.  Clove has given birth to a daughter, Journey, and the baby is 3 months old when the story begins.  Clove has been held captive for over a year by Trent and a character I am purposely going to leave unidentified.

Trent’s not smart enough to do this on his own; that much I have figured out.  His dad wasn’t, either.  Every stick has two ends; Trent and his dad are on one end, and someone else is on the other.  But who? Who in the hell would want to do this?

The “who” may be in question, but the “why” is known – for money.  They are willing to rip apart a family all for the sake of money.  Trent has additional reasons for keeping Clove – he has fallen in love with her.  He feels like he knows the real Clove because of all the stalking he did prior to pulling off the scheme and because of the intimate moments they have shared while Clove was pretending.  He is a loon, but yet I still felt a little sorry for him.

My own selfish reasons keep her here.  I love her.  I need her.

On the other side of the story we have those who have been looking for Clove with nothing to go on, but suddenly a lightbulb moment occurs and they know who the mastermind behind all of this is.  Whoa Nelly!!  That is something warped, I tell you. But back to me feeling sorry for Trent…I do.  He doesn’t know what it was like to be loved growing up and he has never had anybody show him what love consists of.  He’s always had to take care of himself and his father.  Who has ever taken care of him??  I know I shouldn’t have any empathy for this monster knowing what he did to Clove in Contrite, but I am a sucker for the lost puppy.

I close my eyes as a foreign sensation washes over me.  I wonder what it is, until it hits me.  For the first time in my life, I am feeling what it truly is like to be loved.

Tell me you didn’t feeling a little something for Trent in those words.  The first half of the book is riding the coattails of Contrite in which we never know whether Trent is serious, crazy or delusional.  Whose side is he really working?  The second half is more about forgiving and coming to terms with what one does in desperate times to prove how far love will take us into the darkness.  Can Clove forgive herself for her betrayal to Turner or will she accept it as the means to an unknown but hopeful ending?  Clove is a strong woman who wasn’t beat down by Trent and his conspirator, but when in the security of her family she realizes the truth of what she did and she struggles with it.

“You and my dad are both treating me as if I’m fragile and you’re afraid I’m going to break.  But what the two of you fail to realize is, you cannot break something that is already broken.”

I loved Contrite.  I rate hard and very few books earn 5 stars from me – Contrite earned that, but with Reprisal I feel like I am needing something more, but yet I cannot pinpoint what that more necessarily entails.  More from Trent? More drama between Clove and Trent?  Maybe that would have jolted me a little because as it is I didn’t feel a WOW factor or any type of exclamation.  I do know that I have a couple questions lingering in my head which did not get answered and this frustrates me to the point where I become obsessed with finding the answers.  I still remain a steadfast Contrite fan and am certain it will find its way on my top 2015 list, but the sequel just fell a little flat for me.  I have truly enjoyed the crazy ride Ms. Coopmans took me on and I think this story will always remain with me.

This all started out as a game to me.  A game in which I would have a life where I never had to worry about food, shelter, or how I was simply going to fucking survive from one day to the next.  I never expected to fall in love with Clove.  And yet I did.  I didn’t lose that game.  I won.

Excerpt:

Something is terribly wrong. I can feel it. My stomach is restricting, contracting. “Oh God.” My hands clutch my stomach. Excruciating pain progresses from my lower abdomen.

“Clove.” That grating voice reaches my ears from across the room.

“Stay the hell away from me.” His bare feet appear in my line of vision. His jean clad legs bend landing him on his hands and knees in front of me. “Please,” My voice wobbly. I’m petrified. I don’t know what’s happening or why. An unsettling feeling begins to well inside of me, clamping my eyes shut as another agonizing pain jolts. Only this time the pressure is so intense, so unbearable, making my body shake, beads of sweat instantaneously emerge on my forehead. “Trent.” Someone is calling his name, it’s not me though as my ability to speak is gone. My hearing is not.

There is nothing in this world that could make me not recognize the sound of that southern accent calling out Trent’s name. My heart pounding at an increasingly rapid pace. A dozen needles stabbing profusely over and over again.

My forehead crinkles in confusion, lifting it slowly, the click clack of her heels on the hardwood floor, louder the closer they approach. Heels as bright red as the blood beginning to pool underneath my body, those shoes are demanding the right to be heard as she squats down next to Trent. “W…what are you doing here?” My trembling sound waves ricochet throughout the room.

“You don’t look so well Clove, my dear.”
Her sound sugary sweet. She’s watching me so intensely. I don’t know how or why it hits me, but it does. When her head tilts to the side, her snide smirk graces her face.
“Y…you,” I say through a clenched breath. The last thing I remember before I fall on my side, crying, pleading, begging god to save my baby is the sound of her malicious laugh.
