Boy oh boy, was Just Miles hot. Messy dark brown, slightly wavy hair that was not long but not short either. And, oh what a mouth he had. It made me want to jump on board and ride that train for life.

Preston Mitchell is a sexy drop dead gorgeous undercover DEA agent. Leading a life of instability and danger so being able to have a normal relationship is not a possibility. He is very closed off, has never opened himself up to anyone.  With the demons haunting him he feels unworthy ... that is until Avery comes into his life. *insertbeauitfullyfunnyandclumsywomen*here and start fanning yourself off

Just Miles, she called me. She could call me anything and I’d answer to it. Damn, she was really something. How could fate have intervened so cruelly? Now she would haunt my life forever.

Things seem to be going well for Avery and her new adventure. She has her dream job; she and her brother are getting along great. She loves his wife and has an insane attraction to their friend.  She also senses that they are keeping something from her. One day Avery stumbles upon something she shouldn’t have seen and she finds herself running for her life. Protected by the captivating DEA agent Preston she finds herself falling head over heels for him. *insert heart melting sexy moments and heart ache*

For the first time in his life, Preston world has been rocked and he finds himself happy for the first time ever. Their relationship will be put to the ultimate test of danger, deception and lies. *Let the sexy crazy ride begin*

This story immediately pulled me in. Preston is hotness on a stick and Avery is an in the closet sex kitten. Preston, my heart ached so badly for him. He is so damaged and haunted by his job that is he struggles to find happiness and to believe that he can be and deserves to be happy. Then you have Avery who mother is not only selfish but has made Avery so self- conscious of her body and the things so does that Avery feels like she will never be good enough, pretty enough for anything or anyone.  

 This story has it all, suspense, action, HOT & Steamy romance, sadness, angst and laughter. The characters are strong and independent. You can relate to some of their issues. This is the third novel from The Edge series. You do not have to read the first two stories in order to understand what happens in this story. 

A.M Hargrove wrote herself a winner with this one!  It was a fantastic read that kept me captivated throughout the entire book. Fantastic! A job very well done!

“What are my hopes and dreams?...I have them, Mia. That’s all you need to know.” Will

 Mia is a 25-year-old who likes to be in control and only makes the “right” choices. Who defines what is the right choice? Your heart or your mind? She has the fear ingrained in her that by being a musician or falling in love with a musician is not the sensible thing to do. She was the prodigy of a father who lived freely and enjoyed the music and arts and a mother who needed structure in her life. Her parent’s relationship didn’t survive so why would another musician in her life be able to provide the hopes and dreams of her future?

Mia is moving back to New York following the death of her father. She is a graduate of an Ivy League college with a degree in business. She is living in her father’s apartment and running his business while she figures out what she wants to do with her life. Will is a musician living in New York playing from bar to bar. His and Mia’s first encounter is hilarious. I know from this meeting that Will is somebody that I will like. He’s a free spirit, but we get a glimpse at his neurotic tendencies when he’s uncomfortable. I loved Will’s sense of humor and the witty notes he would leave Mia. Will and Mia make sweet music together. They are so much alike and have the same passion for music. Why can’t Mia see that what is right in front of her is who she belongs with? She doesn’t belong with “Banker Bob” but according to Mia, Banker Bob is the right choice. Mia is so scared to get involved with Will because she doesn’t feel that being a musician playing in the bars and renting a room is stable enough for the future. She feels that Will has no hopes or dreams for his future and just lives day to day. That’s not Mia, she needs to be in control of her future.

Will is offered a huge opportunity and he tests his feet in the water. He makes a decision that Mia doesn’t agree with and Mia speaks out from her head and not her heart.

“You ruined me.” Will **wipes tears away from my eyes**

I loved Will…I’ll say it again…I loved Will. He was a breath of fresh air with his humor. If you read How to Kill a Rockstar and enjoyed Paul you will enjoy Will. Mia, Mia, Mia…I can’t even count how many times you frustrated me with your sensible thinking and how your words hurt Will. For all the angst lovers, this book does not disappoint. The last 15% I spent reading swallowing back a painful lump in my throat.

Shoulda…coulda…woulda…

Those are Andy’s words whenever he thinks about his beloved Bethy.  In this sequel to Rock and Roll Never Forgets, we get to see Andy move through his grief and focus his devotion to another young lady that he loves dearly, Carlee.  Andy has moved on from being a superstar to being a producer.  This gives him more stability and flexibility when it comes to being with Carlee. 

 

In Rock and Roll Never Forgets, Bethy was a part of Andy’s life for over 20 years.  However, Andy could never give Bethy the commitment that she wanted until it was too late, but when she needed him the most and called for him, he was there for her.

 When I Look to the Sky gives the reader a look through Andy and Carlee’s lives for the 15 years following the death of Bethy.  Bethy’s presence/absence is felt throughout the entire book. 

 Carlee is the daughter of Beth and John, whom Beth married following the final breakup of Andy and Bethy.  Carlee is 5 when Beth passes away.  Beth makes John promise to keep Carlee in Andy’s life and John follows through on his promise.  John feels immense hurt for losing Beth not once, but twice…her death and to Andy during her last months.  John pushes Carlee away so that he doesn’t need to be reminded of the love that he lost.   Carlee spends a large amount of her time with Andy and affectionately refers to him as “papa.”

 

Andy is so happy to be a part of Carlee’s life.  He is fully devoted to her and has not had a relationship since  Bethy passed away as this would take time away from Carlee.  When Carlee is faced with a life-changing decision, it is her papa that she chooses to make her life complete and to finally have a place to call home.

Following Carlee’s high school graduation, Andy and Carlee embark on a journey across Europe before she moves away from Andy and attends college.  It is during their London stay that Carlee meets Matthew.  Now we have entered a new part of Carlee’s journey as we read about her and Matthew falling in love.  Papa is there to witness it happening and couldn’t be happier. 

I cannot believe the emotional impact this book had on me.  I felt Bethy’s loss whenever Andy and Carlee would think of her, and even without them mentioning her I could feel her absence and how much Andy ached for her love again.  From the very first page I was crying, and I can’t even recall how many times tears would stream down my face throughout the entire book.

When I finished reading Rock and Roll Never Forgets, I was an emotional wreck.  I thought for certain there was no way I could be happy with a book that would follow the heartbreak of Andy.  I was scared that the sequel would have Andy falling in love again and I just didn’t want to read that.  Barbara Stewart has created a masterpiece.   She has allowed me to feel like I have walked beside Andy throughout his life and I have felt every emotion that he feels.  I can feel his emotions without the author’s words.  

At the completion of When I Look to the Sky,  Andy  is now 67 years old and has not had a relationship for over 15 years.  He needs to be in love again.  I give him permission to fall in love again.

Aubrey Jenson knows what it is like to date the bad boys. She has had her heart broken over and over by them.  Riff is Black Falcon’s lead guitarist and is no different. He is a Mohawk sporting, tattooed bad boy and sexy as hell. 

“I really wish you didn’t think so poorly of yourself. You’re an awesome person and friend. I mean, you warned Lanie about the baby situation. I wish you could see what I see.”

After a few extremely hot nights together Aubrey returns to New York.  Trying to get Riff and the passion she felt with him out of her mind she starts dating Isaac.  Isaac is a successful representative at Center Stage Marketing and also happens to be her boss. He has shown extreme interest in her and is being extremely patient. He is everything she should want, handsome, sweet, very well put together. He is everything in a man parents would want for their daughter.

“I want to be with you. I think I have since that first night.”

When her best friend Lanie gets married to Black Falcon’s lead singer Noel, Aubrey finds herself facing Riff and also finds herself battling her feelings for him. They haven’t had any problems when it comes to their chemistry.  The problem is does she take the chance on the one she loves or the one who is safe and would good for her?

“You were never that to me. I can’t explain it, but right from the start I knew you were special. There’s something about you that pulls me in. No matter how much I try to force myself to stay away from you, I can’t. I’m no good for you. I know that, but damn it I can’t help myself from wanting you.”

Aubrey is a beautiful young lady with a promising future at Center Stage Marketing. Feeling the pressure to find Mr. Right, she decides to live it up one last time with Black Falcon’s guitarist, Riff. What she didn’t plan on was having an intense connection with him. The chemistry they share is like watching a pyrotechnic fireworks show.. It is intense, Hot, loud, beautiful and EXPLOSIVE!  The only problem is that her heart has been broken many times before with guys exactly like Riff. Riff isn’t the kind of guy who does relationships. While back in New York she tries to forget about Riff by dating Isaac. Things are going slow but ok. He is nice enough but he isn’t Riff.   

Riff, Riff, Riff. Such a tortured soul, with the biggest damn heart. There is so much more to him than meets the eye. With a tragic past and an asshole of a father, Riff has come to believe he isn’t worthy of love. *Insert feisty red headed Aubrey here* Not used to being brushed off Riff finds himself intrigued. Not only is Aubrey beautiful, she is smart and sexy. 

Although their time together is limited he finds himself feeling things he has never felt before *insert those pesky unworthy feelings here* Aubrey is a breath of fresh air and the connection he feels with her scares him yet makes him want more.

The road to relationships are never really smooth, there is always a few bumps in the road. Aubrey and Riff learn to communicate, let go of the past and to just follow their hearts.

Michelle Valentine has once again captured your heart with Riff. How can you NOT fall in love with him? It was nice being able to see things from his p.o.v. especially with the whole Sofie fiasco. It was also nice seeing a side of Riff that no-one really knew existed.

A must read.  Cheers to you Michelle for a job well done!
