Review and Giveaway: Lost in Distraction by B.J. Harvey

3.5 star review by guest reviewer Nicole Lorenzo

Elise lost everything at the young age of fifteen when her parents and younger sister were brutally murdered in their home. She wants nothing more than to escape and start over new where she will no longer be known as the orphaned billionaires daughter. After living with her godparents so she can finish high school, Elise gets her chance and moves across the country to start college and prepare to run her fathers legacy. She has been on a downward spiral, numbing herself to all emotions and just going through the motions of doing what is expected of her. She wants nothing more than to feel again.  What she doesn’t realize is that her life is in danger, and the blue-eyed man in charge of protecting her will break down the walls that she has firmly kept in place, endangering her heart as well.

“He caught my attention the moment our eyes met. His ice- blue eyes pierced my heart from across the room.”
Brax has a job to do and that is to keep Elise safe. He knew there was something different about this girl, which is why he took the job in the first place. What he didn’t expect was to fall in love with her, making the job he had to do very personal, and harder to concentrate on.  Carrying on the passionate relationship with Elsie while lying to her, takes a toll on Brax, but he knows to keep her safe he must continue the lie. Brax with the help of his partner realize that there may be more than one person after Elise and they may not be able to trust anyone but themselves.

After eight months the threat on Elise intensifies, making Brax realize that to save her he must do the last thing he ever wants to do and that is to leave her.

“I know once I leave I’ve more than likely lost her forever, but I’d rather sacrifice my happiness than compromise her safety”
This book has a different writing style than I normally prefer, but as soon as I read the prologue I was invested and want to see where the characters ended up. I love the chemistry between Elise and Brax, watching Elise learn to trust and love Brax and let her walls down and watching Brax conflicted with his love for Elise and keeping her safe. Of course now with the lovely cliffhanger and thrilling epilogue at the end we will be waiting for book 2 to see whether this couple can have a happily ever after.
