Giveaway and Review: Elite by Rachel Van Dyken

Synopsis

When I won the annual Eagle Elite College Scholarship lottery, I was thrilled. After all, my grandma had just died and I wanted to take care of my aging grandpa -- he couldn't be a farmer in Wyoming forever. And graduating from Eagle Elite meant opportunity.
But I wasn't counting on meeting Nixon.

Nor was I counting on the rules of the Elect.

1. Do not touch The Elect.
2. Do not look at The Elect.
3. Do not speak to The Elect.

And worst of all? Don't discover the secret they hide, because in the end, you may just realize... it's about you.

*This is a New Adult Book, blood, violence, cursing, sexual references, and drug use. Not recommended for those under 17.*

4 Star Review

Do you like suspense?  Do you like a story full of secrets?  If you answered yes, then this story is for you!

Trace is a lottery winner (a.k.a. charity case) for a spot in the Eagle Elite College.  She hails from a farm in Wyoming where she has lived the past 10+ years with her grandparents after moving from Chicago following her parent’s death in a car accident.

Nixon is a jerk, a narcissist, and student body president of the Elite.  He controls everything that goes on at the college.  He has a lot of power and everybody fears him.

On the first day of Trace’s arrival she has the pleasure of meeting Nixon and his acquaintances.  She is informed of the Elite’s rules:  Do not talk to the Elite, do not make eye contact with the Elite, and do not touch the Elite.

Nixon does a fine job of humiliating Trace in front of the student body on several occasions.   He claims he’s doing this for her protection.  Who does she need the protection from?  It certainly appears that she should be protected from Nixon.  If Nixon isn’t available to make Trace’s life difficult, then his minions step in.

However, nothing is as it appears.  There is a reason why Nixon requires detailed security when leaving campus and why the entire student body fears him, and when Trace finds out everything that she knew about him will change.

“Nothing could have prepared me for what was behind those doors…I could only stare as Nixon stood in the entryway…”

Someone from the Elite will hold Trace’s heart, one will pick up the pieces when her heart is shattered, and one is set out to destroy her and what remains of her family.

“Go to hell, Nixon.  Actually…” I laughed.  Don’t Because I’ve been living there for the past three weeks.  Just stay away from me.”
