Character Interview (Jet and Ayden) and Review: Jet by Jay Crownover

Synopsis

With his tight leather pants and a sharp edge that makes him dangerous, Jet Keller is every girl’s rock and roll fantasy. But Ayden Cross is done walking on the wild side with bad boys. She doesn’t want to give in to the heat she sees in Jet’s dark, haunted eyes. She’s afraid of getting burned from the sparks of their spontaneous combustion, even as his touch sets her on fire.

Jet can’t resist the Southern Belle with mile-long legs in cowboy boots who defies his every expectation. Yet the closer he feels to Ayden, the less he seems to know her. While he’s tempted to get under her skin and undo her in every way, he knows firsthand what happens to two people with very different ideas about relationships.

Will the blaze burn into an enduring love. . . or will it consume their dreams and turn them to ashes?

4.5 Stars

Jet Keller is every woman’s rock and roll fantasy. With his dark haunted eyes, tight pants and a bit of a dangerous edge, he is simply irresistible. When Jet first met Ayden, he thought she was this southern belle with gorgeous mile long legs but he was wrong, he knew there was more to her than meets the eye.

I had the feeling I didn’t know the real Ayden at all. I would gladly spend the time it took to unravel it all, to undo her in every way I could.

Ayden Cross has lived on the wild side before and has done the “bad boy” thing. She vows not to return to that life. It is buried with her past or is it? Ayden craved security and a future with a solid foundation. She wanted to be sure she was able to support herself so she would never have to rely on anyone else and if happiness was the cost, it was the price she was willing to pay.

I wanted to inhale him; I wanted to get inside him and never come back out. There was just something there, something special about him that pulled on all the strings I thought I had neatly trimmed away when I had left my old life behind.

When Ayden and Jet met, their sparks were bright and ready to light up the sky. Jet makes her feel alive and with his touch sets her body on fire in the best way possible. Afraid of being burned Ayden has built these walls around her heart. She takes the safe route, when it comes to the men she dates.
Now living together along with his friend Cora, Ayden and Jet do their best to avoid each other. He figures having a revolving door to random women will help get her out of his head- it doesn’t work. Ayden feels it is best to deny the feelings she has for Jet and again, it doesn’t work- even trying to bury herself in school work, Jet is always on her mind. Even though she has been dating Adam.; he is safe and he definitely doesn’t make her feel ANYTHING when he kisses or touches her.  After breaking things off with him, he takes her to see Jet’s band's Valentine's Day show. Although her and Jet’s friendship is strained she wasn’t expecting his coldness towards her and when she confronts him, everything changes for them both.

“You keep telling me I don’t know you, and that I don’t have a clue, but the truth is, we don’t know each other, and I don’t know that either of us is really ready to handle the other. What I do know is I want you more than I want to keep breathing.”

Venturing into a relationship, Jet seems to be getting through to Ayden although both are reluctant due to their pasts;  the road to happiness is far from easy. The one thing they do realize is that once that line is crossed, there is no going back.

“Sometimes, things need to change, because there just isn’t any way for them to stay the same.”

Things seem to be going well and just as Ayden begins to open up heart her brother shows up and with that his troubles and her past. Afraid of Jet and her friends getting hurt, she bails. Leaving Jet broken hearted, pissed off and so confused.  Jet and his band decide to go on tour in Europe.
Both too stubborn to admit how they really feel, they end up miserable and when her brother tries to right a wrong things don’t end so well. Ayden finds herself all alone. That is, until Shaw is able to talk some sense into Jet. Even though he wasn’t the one who broke things off, he needed to fix it.

“I’m not letting you go, Ayden, and I’m not going to give you any kind of room, so you better be prepared to deal with all of that for a long time. You promised forever and I plan on holding you to it.”
I absolutely adored this book. Jet melted my heart and I felt for him and his family’s situation. He is so down to earth and so stinking talented. How can you not fall in love with him? Being able to see the soft and romantic side of him was just wow.

Then poor Ayden; learning her past and her struggles was just heart breaking. She was so determined to make her life better and she gave up on being happy just to try and secure a future.

Watching them struggle to figure things out was enjoyable yet angsty.  They are so perfect for each other yet so blinded by their past they aren’t able to see a future.  I loved being able to see them grow, learn and realize that they belong together.

Jay Crownover won our hearts with Rule and now she has us squirming in our pants with Jet, another winner!

I can’t wait to see what Crownover has in store for Cora and Rome!

Interview with Jet and Ayden

“I can’t believe we are at Jet Keller’s music studio, Kristie says looking around in awe. “Do you think we will get to watch him work or hear his band perform?” Jen asks while looking at the pictures on the wall. Then the door opens and Ayden and Jet walk out hand in hand. Lisa walks over to great them, “Congratulations on the nuptials you two. We are so happy for you. I'm Lisa and these two gawkers over there are Jen and Kristie, we're the Three Chicks. It's a pleasure to meet you.” Kristie's eyes automatically dart to Jet’s tight pants. Jen elbows her and whispers, “Obvious much? Quit looking there.” Kristie blushes and whisper’s back, “I’m sorry but once you find out about a certain pierced part, it is kinda hard not looking.” Jen giggles as both she and Kristie offer their hands to Jet and Ayden. We follow the happy couple to a comfy looking couch. We get settled. Jen looks over and says ,“ You two ready to do this?” Both Ayden and Jet nod yes. Kristie is still staring and Lisa has to clear her throat to get her attention, again Kristie is blushing and redirects her stare to the pictures on the wall, Jen laughs as Lisa begins the interview....

Three Chicks:  How is married life? What kind of changes have you both had to make?

Jet: Married life is boss. There is nothing quite like knowing you get to come home to your girl every single time. I have to be better about dodging groupies and making sure every song I write isn’t a sappy love song. Happiness can do that to a guy.

Ayden: Being married is all about trust. I trust him implicitly which is also the biggest change. I’ve never trusted anyone with everything before, it’s nice to share that with someone and know they will never leave you.

Three Chicks:  Jet, it was clear to everyone but the two of you how much you LOVED each other. Why didn't you fight for her? Why did you give up and walk away?

Jet: *frowning*   Because I had a front row seat for what it looks like when one person gives their all and the other just takes.  I didn’t want to go there, even though I’m not my old man and she sure as shit isn’t my mother.  Plus I’m a guy and inherently don’t like trying to fight a fight I don’t think I can win.

Three Chicks:  Ayden, Jet made it clear about how he felt for you, why weren't you able to open up to him?

Ayden: *looking sideways at her grinning husband* I never really opened up to anyone. I always thought I could just handle it myself.  It never occurred to me he would want to help, that he would be able to.  That wasn’t what my life ever looked like before Jet.  Plus every good southern lady knows some secrets keep things interesting.

Three Chicks:  Jet, at what moment did you know that you loved Aydan?

Jet: *Curling his hand around her neck* Probably when I felt like she ripped my heart out when she walked away from me…but maybe that first night a million years ago when she asked me to come up for a drink.  Saying no was the hardest thing I ever did. *Ayden wraps her arms around him in a reflexive move*

Three Chicks:  Ayden, when Jet's studio was broken into and everything was stolen, you automatically assumed it was your brother, is that what made you run?

Ayden: That and the night before in the car.  I don’t lose control like that.  I was unraveling because of him and it was scary.  Plus as all things Asa related, the robbery was just the tip of the iceberg.  My brother never makes a small mess, he’s a tornado of destruction.

Three Chicks:  Jet, you knew you had feelings for Ayden, did you feel a little funny “entertaining” the endless parade of one night stands since your bedroom is so close to Ayden’s?

Jet: *Having the good grace to blush* Maybe a little.  I was just living my life the way I always did and she never said anything.

Ayden: What was I supposed to say, “Keep it in your pants rock star? I’m maybe, possibly in love with you and it hurts my feelings?”

Jet: You could have said something.

Ayden: It wasn’t my place at the time. Now it’s a different story. No one goes in or out of that room but me.

Three Chicks:  Ayden, how much were you hurt when he played, Love the One You’re With?

Ayden: *Digs and elbow into his side making him grunt*  That wasn’t a good night. I understood what he was trying to say, but he was the one that kept insisting he wasn’t right for the ‘good girl’.  It was his own fault.

Jet: It’s a great song.

Ayden: Not the way you meant it then.

Jet: I was so jealous I could fucking taste it.

Three Chicks:  Jet, what was your real reason for hurting Ayden on Valentine’s Day after you shoved your tongue down her throat and then told her not to worry it wouldn’t’ happen again?

Jet: *scratching his chin* I’m an idiot just like Rowdy said.  It sucks wanting someone so bad and thinking you can’t ever have them, even if the obstacle is self-created.  I was just tore up over her and handled it all wrong.

Three Chicks:  Ayden, have you umm, have you.. Are you used to Jet's piercing? (All Three Chicks blush and giggle)

Ayden: *eyebrow arching* Uhh as much time as we spend naked when he isn’t on the road I better be.
Otherwise we would be doing something wrong. *Jet laughs at that and winks at her*

Three Chicks:  Jet, why were you so upset when you thought Ayden wouldn’t be at your show on Valentine’s Day?

Jet: *with a shrug* because she mattered to me.  Even before we were anything more she mattered so much.  Plus it was Valentine’s Day and she looks so hot in red! *that makes both of them laugh*

Three Chicks:  Jet, was there ever a time that you shared a good relationship with your father?

Jet: No. End of story.

Three Chicks:  Ayden, are you able to be more yourself these days, a little bit of the old you mixed with the new you?

Ayden: Now I’m just me.  I’m a student, a wife, a sister, a good friend.  I realize I don’t have to be anything else to deserve all the great things and people I’ve been blessed with.

Jet: I love all those part of you.

Ayden: See what I mean?  I love all the parts of you too, Jet.

Three Chicks:  Jet, how is your relationship with Ayden’s brother, Asa?

Jet: *Twisting his wedding ring around and around*  I like him.  I actually like him quite a bit.  He’s a very likable guy.  I also treat him like I would a poisonous snake.  I’m never sure I can trust him all the way and if he turns on us I feel like he has enough venom to kill us all.  *Ayden begrudgingly nods in agreement*

Ayden, have you made peace with your past?

Ayden: Most of the time.  Some days I can wallow in regret but generally I understand it made me who I am today and I’m okay with that.

Three Chicks:  Jet, you and the band are content with being the local "it" group. Did touring in Europe boost your popularity?

Jet: We’re awesome.  We’ll always be a popular local band but unless something drastically changes, we’re all happy with the way things are.  Going on tour made it easier to get my foot in the door with some of the other bands I want to sign though.

Three Chicks:  Jet how is your recording company doing? Ayden: How is school going?

Jet: Good.  It’s always hard to start something new up and I’m on the road a lot.  It makes the time we have together more special, more valuable.

Ayden: I miss him a lot so I study all the time and work as much as I can when he’s on the road.  I have to spend the summer making up what I missed because of Asa, but Shaw and I are both on track to graduate in fall.

Three Chicks:  Ayden, what do you think is going on between Cora and Rome?

Ayden: *Laughing so hard she has to hold her sides which makes Jet grin at her*  Oh man, that’s like two major storm fronts moving at each other at top speed and you just know the storm it’s going to cause when they collide is going to be epic.  I don’t know the ins and outs but I bet it’s going to be super fun for all of us to watch!

Three Chicks:  Jet, what’s with the tight purple pants? Are you partial to pants that are just about painted on you because you like them or because you know they make you look smokin’ hot?

Jet: *Snickering as Ayden laughs at him*  Rule and Nash both rock Dickies.  Rowdy liked cuffed Levis.  Rome wears Carhartts or jeans.  A guy needs his own thing ya know?  Plus I’m in a band, really only guys in a band can pull off purple pants.

Ayden: No way handsome….only you can pull that look off.

Three Chicks:  Where do you see yourselves in about 5 years?

Ayden: Who knows?  I need to get my Masters, get a job where I make enough to pay off Asa’s medical debt and can hopefully have more time with Jet because he won’t be on the road as much.  Maybe by then my mom will have pulled her head out of her ass and we can go back to Kentucky on better terms.

Jet: Hopefully my mom will have left my dad by then.  Maybe we can give her a grandkid or two as incentive. *Ayden turns to him with huge eyes*  After you’re done with school. *He just smiles at her*

Three Chicks:  Fill us in on those 2 months that Jet was touring-how did both of you get through that time? (especially since we all know Jet you have quite the sexual appetite that needs to be …ummm…fed)

Jet: Technology is great.

Ayden: No comment.

Three Chicks:  What can we expect next from Jay?

Ayden: A good time. A story that does a war hero and a strong willed pixie justice.

Jet: She always keeps us guessing.  We never know if we’re coming or going with that one.  I would say just hold on and enjoy the ride!  Rock on!

“That was so much fun. Thank you for meeting with us nosy chicks, we hope it wasn’t too painful,” Jen says. We stand up and follow Jet and Ayden. “This is so awesome that they are giving us a tour, I have always wanted to see how things work and look behind the scenes,” Kristie says while staring at Jet. Jen giggles and give her a little pinch while whispering, “You promised to behave.” “I am behaving, I'm sorry but you know I have a weakness for pierced tattooed rock stars who happen to be freaking gorgeous-they are both gorgeous, how can you NOT stare?” Jen nods in agreement then says, “Are you even paying attention to what he is saying?” Kristie rolls her eyes, “What do you think?” Jen giggles and we both look up to find Lisa, Jet and Ayden laughing at us. Kristie turns a shade of red and Lisa turns to them to say, “Thanks again for having us, it was great meeting with you two.” “Yes, thanks for giving us a tour, it was really cool to see all the equipment and the different rooms.” “ And congratulations on your marriage, you two are awesome together!” Ayden and Jet walk us to the door as we say our goodbyes.
