Blog Tour: Mid Life Love: At Last by Whitney G

Mid Life Love: At Last
If you ask me if Jonathan Statham makes me happy, I’ll say ‘Absolutely. He’s the man of my dreams and I can’t wait to marry him.’ If you ask me why my ex-husband Ryan is currently one inch away from me— staring into my eyes and pressing his hand against my cheek, I’ll say, ‘I have no fucking idea…’

Claire Gracen finally has the life she’s always wanted: A career she loves, a man who’s willing to do any and everything for her, and friends that show her the true meaning of the word ‘friendship.’

As she and Jonathan prepare to make the ultimate commitment to one another and plan the wedding of her dreams, she quickly realizes that the hurtful past she left behind in Pittsburgh is a lot closer than she thought.
Sexy, unpredictable, and as charmingly clever as ‘Mid Life Love,’ ‘At Last’ will captivate you from the first page and never let you go.

4.5 Star review by Lisa Kane

Claire Gracen and Jonathan Statham are engaged and ready to take the next step. At least Jonathan is, Claire needs to make sure things are perfect and by perfect I mean  OCD to the highest pinnacle over the top wedding. She drags Jonathan to dozens of venues, taste testings and sweet caterers –pours over decorations, table arrangements and invitations. Jonathan is willing to bank roll whatever she desires-as long as the wedding is in 3 months. He won’t budge on that.

Claire’s designing firm, C & C Charming Designs, is going strong and Jonathan owns just about everything in the world-but he still has flowers and notes delivered every day to her. Of course, he makes sure that the two have smokin’ hot sex every day too, maybe twice, maybe three times a day.

There are so many humorous moments in this novella. Claire decides she and Jonathan should go to couples counseling just to make sure there aren’t any issues. Somehow Claire turns that session into a discussion about their sex life and implies that they have sex a few times a week,  not wanting to admit that sex is a daily thing for the couple.
"I mean, to have the love of my life tell me that she feels like we only have sex a few times a week is just...is this the part where I'm allowed to cry?" "Yes, Mr. Statham. Let out all of your pain."
Jonathan turns that situation around resulting in elevator sex-livin’ it up while they’re going down! She thinks that abstaining from sex until the wedding will make their honeymoon special. Jonathan thinks their sex life is pretty special already but he’ll give Claire a taste of her own medicine. When he’s done she’ll beg him to change his mind in agreeing to abstain.

Her friend Helen decides to whisk her away for a bachelorette girls’ week. She ends up in Costa Rica complete with sex clubs, erotic sex toy filled massages and toys. Guess who tracks her down and shows her how sorry she is that she wanted to go without sex. Jonathan leaves her high and dry (or maybe it’s high and wet?).

In the midst of all the wedding chaos, it seems Claire’s ex-husband, Ryan Hayes, is now living in San Francisco with Amanda, Claire’s former best friend who cheated with her husband. He keeps showing up everywhere demanding Claire give him a few minutes of her time so he can talk to her. Claire loses it every time he is around her and there is no way she will spend any time with him-she doesn’t care if it’s been 5 years since their divorce. He betrayed her and humiliated her and she will never forgive the two of them. Jonathan has security on her and is ready to have someone take this guy out. Claire is HIS and that means BACK OFF or suffer the consequences (and with his resources what consequences can’t he make happen?). There are times he goes way beyond annoying, and begins stalking.

There are some sad, angsty times for Claire and Jonathan and I felt so badly for both of them. Misunderstandings threaten to break them apart, and insecurity is at the root of most of their problems. Can they get past this and learn to trust in their feelings for each other?
The entire week that he hadn't been at home had been the worst week I'd had in years. I couldn't sleep, I couldn't eat, and each time he hit ignore on my phone calls, I felt like I couldn't breathe. He was my everything and the very thought of him not trusting me-him not talking to me, was too painful to think about.

There were a few things that drove me crazy. Claire and her constant merry go round of changing her mind about the wedding plans infuriated me. Jonathan as wealthy as he is, needs to learn to say no to her once in a while. Since she couldn’t find the perfect venue that checked off all the boxes on her list-he’ll have one built. Just say no and Claire will have to learn what compromise is-her waste of hundreds of thousands of dollars on a wedding that isn’t even her first wedding was a huge waste of money. Jonathan needs to put his foot down for her twin girls too-he is such a soft touch and they have a tendency to expect more and more.  Maybe buying them identical Range Rovers for their birthdays was a little over the top and giving them each $300 a week for spending money at college is a little much.
I loved the secondary characters; Jonathan's mother Denise was the mother from hell who abused and neglected her children, but is trying her best to reconnect and atone for her sins. Jonathan's sister Haley is witty and smart and gives as good as she gets. Corey, Jonathan's best friend, is funny and innovative and a super sleuth. These characters add textures and layers to Jonathan and Claire's story.

I loved this novella as much as I loved Mid Life Love. These two characters are perfect for each other, this is one series I hate to see end.
