Blog Tour: Beck by Harper sloan

Synopsis:

**Warning** This book is intended for a mature reading**

~DEE~

I’ve always been good at wearing masks. Not letting anyone see the real me. I’m content being the happy-go-lucky best friend. The strong willed boss. The independent woman who doesn’t need a man.

But the truth is I’m just as broken as the rest of you. I’m terrified that all it will take is one person to make all my carefully constructed walls crumble into fine dust. So I guard my heart with everything I have. Determined to never let anyone get close enough to hurt me again.

All is perfect until HE walks into my life. No… he doesn’t just walk. He struts his good-looking, sex-oozing self-right into my space and demands that I see HIM. Making me want what I know I can’t have.

So I did the only thing I know how to do.
I run.
But he just won’t let me go.

~BECK~

The second I see her, I know she will be mine. I see past the gorgeous smiles and heart-stopping laughter. I see HER. She doesn’t want me to know her secrets or the past that haunts her, but I make it my mission to find out.

To make her mine.

She can run all she wants, but it will never be far enough to stop me from coming after her.
She’s it for me and she knows it.
She’s just too scared to admit it.

**NO cliffhanger, HEA, inter-connected standalones**

4 star review by Lisa Kane

Beck is the third in the Corp Security Series, following Axel and Izzy, and Cage and Melissa. There is still plenty of story with Maddox, Zeke “Coop” Cooper,  Emmy and Sway.  This is Dee and Beck’s story. Denise “Dee” Roberts is an independent woman of the world who masks her insecurities behind a façade. Her father was a wealthy influential, cheating husband who demanded perfection from a daughter he had no trouble reminding daily that he never wanted. Her mother was a clothes horse who barely tolerated her. People wanted to be friends with her because of her wealth, and her father’s power. Dee learned at an early age not to trust anyone and to depend on a man was madness.

John “Beck” Beckett enjoys women and his freedom. But when he sees Dee, he wants Dee. He meets her through her friendship with Izzy and he wants to spend time with her. Although she is attracted to him and loves to have sex with him, Dee makes it known that is all it will be. Beck has other ideas and is quite persistent.
“The day your drunk ass went on and on about how chocolate is better than sex, you had me hooked. It was never a question of whether or not you were it for me. I knew. You might have pushed me away physically, but I didn’t really go anywhere, and if you think about it long enough, you know I didn’t leave you.

When it seems Dee is ready to let down her guard, Izzy’s ex crashes back into both their worlds and Dee goes back into lock down mode. Maddox (Locke) lets Dee know that she is making a mistake throwing away a chance at happiness with Beck because of her past issues.

“I’ve watched you, Dee. I see you pushing back and at the same time, running forward. You’re hot and cold, but when you’re cold, it’s fucking frigid. Last couple of weeks; I’ve seen that fear leave you. The crazy emotions, ups and downs, all those stupid games you’ve been playing with him, have stopped. You were finally ready. I won’t act like I understand your life, but if you let what happened today ruin what could be something worthy trying for, then that’s on your shoulders.”

It doesn’t help that there are forces working against the corps. A friend of Dee’s from her past, Chelcie comes to town and danger follows her. She and Coop hook up but it’s a pretty casual thing, not really going anywhere. While things are rocky between Dee and Beck, things between Maddox and the corp’s secretary Emmy are still unsettled. She has wanted him forever, and he has pushed her away for at least that long. Not because he doesn’t want her; but because he has issues, lots of issues.

When tragedy strikes the corp, their lives are all fractured and shattered and all there is left to do is to pick up the pieces. Can Dee and Beck survive the shambles they are left with? Will Maddox finally realize that the key to his happiness has been a desk away from him?

I love this series; I love the key characters and the bonds they share. I love the alternating POV’s from both Dee and Beck. Dual POV’s always brings a rich layer to the story. This installment requires lots of tissues, many more than the first two required. While my heart broke a little in this one, there is so much story left to be told for all these characters, and I so am looking forward to reading it.

“You might think you’re ready, and I have no doubt that your body is, but I want it all. Mind, body, soul and heart. I promise you that when we finally get there, it’s going to be worth the wait. When you open yourself up to me completely…Baby, you won’t even believe how good it’s going to be.”

About The Author:

Harper lives in small town Georgia just a short drive from her hometown of Peachtree City. She (and her 3 daughters) enjoy ruling the house they dubbed 'Estrogen Ocean', much to her husband’s chagrin. Harper has a borderline unhealthy obsession with books; you can almost ALWAYS find her with her ereader attached. As an ex-reviewer and blogger, Harper's passion for reading runs deep. It wasn't until 'Axel' decided to take up residence that she realized her true calling.
She started using writing as a way to unwind when the house went to sleep at night; and with a house full of crazy it was the perfect way to just relax. It didn't take long before a head full of very demanding alphas would stop at nothing to have their story told.
