LOVE UNSPOKEN IS LIVE!

I lent my heart to the bad boy, and he did exactly what I expected he would. He broke it.

And the guy I should have been with—he’s still here. He tries to take my mind off everything I’ve lost while showing me what I could have. I’m ready for a new start, to fall in love again … to do what I should have done in the first place.

Everything seems perfect.

Then the past comes walking back in. I thought I was over him, but one look and I know that’s not true. We went through too much together for those feelings to completely fade away.

When my past and present collide, how am I supposed to choose? They both love me, and I love them.

A heart will be broken … and it could be mine.

4.5 Stars by Jen Hagen

Usually my gut is spot on when it comes to the deciding factor as to which lover is going to end up with the girl.  My gut tells me who the best guy is from the beginning of a story and I never waiver. In this case, I couldn’t go with my instinct.  Both guys were winning me over.  Of course Blake broke my heart at the end of the first book, so Pierce had it pretty easy to swoon me but he is a heckuva nice guy, full of class, and a very attentive lover.  I didn’t want him to be with Lila and even though it had been months since Blake left, I wanted Lila to hold out hope for Blake.   Once Lila made her decision to let Blake go, it didn’t take me long to switch over to team Pierce.

I’ve been patient, Lila.  I’ve been waiting for your heart to mend.  There’s no one else, and I’ll hold on to the idea of us unless you tell me it’s never going to bed.”
His words touch me in a place I thought had become untouchable.
He’s flowers just because.
He’s candles and rose petals.
He’s the meaningful diamond and a house in the burbs.

If Pierce is all these things to Lila, then what is Blake?  Blake is GONE.  There’s no way to sugar-coat his departure. He was hurt and he ran...he tucked tail and ran far, far away.   Blake has a broken heart from years ago and he carries around a lot of guilt.  He is very, very broken on the inside.  I sympathized with him on his pain and I was hoping he would soon return and claim what belong to him.  It isn’t long before Blake is back in the story and making Lila question herself.

“Can you promise me a chance?”
“I wouldn’t be here right now if I couldn’t,” I answer honestly.
His warm lips brush my forehead.  “That’s all I need.”

Here’s my moment of truth…in a true rarity I switched sides.  At some point I realized that Pierce was a good-hearted man, a grade-A class act, and loved Lila with everything that he had.  He held back nothing when it came to showing Lila how much she meant to him.  This is a man that deserves love in return.  He gives so much of himself and doesn’t ask for hardly anything in return.

“I love you, Lila.  What ever happens after this, I want you to remember that.”
I freeze, unsure of what to say…of what I feel.  On this is for sure: when I feel unsteady, he rights my world again.
“I’m falling for you,” I whisper, kissing the base of his neck.
“I can accept that.”

See?  Pierce asks for very little.  He knows that Lila is still hung up on Blake but he loves her soooo much he doesn’t care.  He is grateful for the little bit of her that he can have.   I have never met such a selfless man before.

Blake versus Pierce.  That’s a tough battle for Lila but I know whose side I’m cheering on.  Blake is broken…probably even too broken to appreciate what he has in the here and now.  Pierce always lets Lila know where she stands with him – always at the front.  With Blake you never know when he’s going to run again.  I don’t trust him.  Lila needs to make a decision, and it’s obvious who I would choose.  Does Lila share the same thoughts as I do?

“Make a choice,” he begs.  “And when you do, listen to your heart.”

This sequel was definitely worth the wait.  The writing was phenomenal and the story was fantastic.  There were plenty of angsty moments to keep this reader happy!  I have always loved the way the author makes me feel while reading.  She is very talented and I have never been disappointed in her writing.

Excerpt

“If I had come home sooner, would I have had a chance?” he asks, sinking down in the bed until we’re eye to eye. He knows he’s making it impossible for me to skirt around the truth.
Eyes don’t easily lie to eyes.
“Yes,” I whisper. “I waited for you. Until New York, it would have been you.”
His fingers come up, gently brushing a piece of hair from my forehead. “I really fucked up with you, didn’t I?”
“Neither of us was in the right place. It wasn’t our time.”
He moves closer, brushing his thumb against my cheek. My conscience whispers but the tequila screams. “When will it be our time?”
I think about Pierce. This weekend. Everything. “It may never come, or maybe, it’s already passed.”
“I’m going to fight for you,” he declares, propping himself up on his elbow to look down at me. “I thought I could let you go if I knew it would make you happy, but after sitting alone in this apartment all weekend while you were with him, I don’t think I can do that.”
I swallow hard. “And, if you don’t win?”
“I’ve already lost, so what do I have left to lose?”
And, he’s right. He’s already lost so much that the risk is minimal.
“Pierce trusts me,” I blurt, my palms sweating against the sheets.
He leans in, kissing my cheek. “He shouldn’t trust me, not when he has the one thing I want.”
“Blake?”
He slips out of my bed without looking back, carefully closing the bedroom door behind him. He wanted the last word, and he got it.
