4 Star Review by Jen Skewes

I am a huge fane of Kele Moon's writing and am always so excited when I find out that she has another book that is being released.   The Viper is the first of a new series which is actually a spinoff of the Battered Hearts series which I loved.  So we get to see some of the characters that we fell in love with like, Jules, Tina, Nova and Chuito.  And we get to meet Chuito's very sexy cousin Marcos Rivara

Marcos was visiting his cousin in the small town of Garnet when he met Katie Foster, the girl who would change has life.  Marcos grew up in Miami.  He was a gangster, a thug as he referred to himself.  He didn't deserve someone like Katie Foster.  A few months ago they met when when hit her car.  He stayed there with her that night until the cops and the ambulance showed up, even knowing that staying could only cause problems for him.  Ever since that night he cannot get Katie out of his mind.  But he knows that no matter what he cannot go there.  She is a good girl and too good for him. So when he finds out that she has been trying to reach out to him he knows what he has to do.  He needs to go back to Garnet and tell her that she needs to forget him. That he is no good for her.   But seeing Katie Foster again makes keeping away from her even harder.  There is a spark, and a connection, the same one that he felt that night on the side of the road after the accident. They both feel it, which is the same reason that Katie has been trying to get in touch with him since that night.  He changed her that night and she needs to see him again.

Katie is a good girl.  A sweet and innocent school teacher who plays by the rules.  Marcos Rivera is unlike any man that she has ever met.  And despite people telling her that he is no good she can't help thinking about.  When he shows up in town again she is shocked but at the same time happy.  Marcos is there to tell her that she needs to forget him.  But Katie is trying to understand why he came all this way to tell her that.  She refuses to give up and tries one last time.  She is tired of playing by the rules and becomes a little more daring.  They end spending one night together which turns into a week and a promise.  At the end of the week she has to let him go, no matter what.  That is all that he can give her right now, even if his heart wants more.  But what happens when their time together is up?

What I loved about this book was Marcos and Katie's relationship.  They had this connection that you felt. It was as if they knew each other for a lot longer than the really did.  They fit so perfect and easily together.  Even though they came from two totally different worlds.  Marco grew up in a world of violence and crime.  It's what he knows.  Katie grew up in a small town and is the very sweet good girl next door.  But together they just work.

I loved Marcos.  I am not sure what it was about him but he just oozed sex.  He was sexy and a complete bad boy.  He was a tough guy, a fighter, a guy who didn't always use his brain, and reacted too quickly.  But beneath that tough exterior was a heart.  He referred to himself as a thug, but Katie Foster was the woman who really saw the man underneath that tough skin.  Don't get me wrong he was a bad guy who committed crimes and was in a gang.  But he has a soft spot for Katie and it showed.

Katie was a wonderful heroine.  I think at times she seemed naive but at the same time I think it was just her curious side.  She never judged Marcos.  She knew exactly what he had done, what he may be capable of but it didn't matter.  She felt hat she felt and was tired of playing by the rules.

Kele Moon has once again captured me with her characters.  I loved Marcos and Katie's story.  It was hot and sexy, and an overall enjoyable read.  I also loved that we get t to see a lot of Chuito in this book and I loved the relationship that he had with Marcos.  I loved getting a glimpse into their past and I am looking forward to his story.  Another great job!

“You’re not exactly a ten, Katie.” Grayson laughed cruelly, reminding Katie why she left to begin with. “No one is going to love you for your mind like I do, not in this town. I’m your best option, and I don’t understand why you did this to us.”
“I think she’s a ten,” a man called from behind them.
Goose bumps danced over Katie’s skin, and she wasn’t sure why until she craned her neck to look toward the direction of the low, male voice. Her body must have recognized what her mind hadn’t caught up with, because walking over to them was Marcos Rivera. He was wearing sunglasses and a baseball hat, but it was undeniably him. She could see the snake tattoo on his arm from there.
He looked larger than life in the late afternoon sun with those impossibly broad shoulders and large, bunched biceps covered in tribal tattoos. She couldn’t help but notice that every inch of him seemed wound tight and ready to jump—like a tiger stalking prey. She blinked, understanding for the first time all those warnings Jules had been leveling at her in regards to Marcos.
This wasn’t the kind, handsome angel from the crash site.
This Marcos looked deadly.
He took off his sunglasses when he stopped in front of them. His light gaze rested on the steely grasp Grayson still had on her arm. “This is the part where you let her go.
“Excuse me?” Grayson huffed in that annoying superior voice of his that had always embarrassed Katie when he used it in public, usually toward someone parking their car or waiting on them at a restaurant. “This is my wife and—”
“Ex-wife,” Katie corrected before Grayson could finish. She was still staring at Marcos in shock, unable to believe he was really standing there in front of her. “What are you doing here?”
Marcos broke the dangerous staring contest he was having with Grayson. He let his gaze run over her hotly for one long moment, making more goose bumps dance over her arms. A small bit of the tension eased out of his powerful frame, and the look in his beautiful eyes became warm just like she remembered. “I got your messages.”
“My messa—” Katie cheeks heated when she realized what he was talking about and her voice was a squeak of acknowledgement. “Oh.”
There was a quiet moment between them, one charged enough that Katie was actually breathless to be in his presence again after so long. Strangely enough, she could feel it off Marcos too. That electric fission of need so overwhelming it actually showed on his face and translated into something tangible enough that even someone as romantically challenged as Katie could sense it. As if remembering they weren’t alone, Marcos cleared his throat and turned back to Grayson, his eyes narrowed in warning once more.
“Yeah, I’m gonna have to insist you get your hands off her.” He eyed Grayson’s hold on her arm pointedly. “Now.”

Synopsis

Love isn't supposed to be an addiction. It isn't supposed to leave you bleeding.

Kona pushed, Keira pulled, and in their wake, they left behind destruction.

She sacrificed everything for him.

It wasn't enough.

But the wounds of the past can never be completely forgotten and still the flame remains, slumbers between the pleasure of yesterday and the thought of what might have been.

Now, sixteen years later, Keira returns home to bury the mother who betrayed her, just as Kona tries to hold onto what remains of his NFL career with the New Orleans Steamers. Across the crowded bustle of a busy French Market, their paths collide, conjuring forgotten memories of a consuming touch, skin on skin, and the still smoldering fire that begs to be rekindled.

When Kona realizes the trifecta of betrayal—his, Keira's and those lies told to keep them apart—his life is irrevocably changed and he once again takes Keira down with him into the fire that threatens to ignite them both.

Excerpt

“What’s the matter, Wildcat?” Kona lay on top of her, held her hip with his long fingers. “You nervous?” She could only manage a nod and Kona smiled, moving his mouth to her neck, down her shoulder, kissing lightly. “We don’t have to do this. I can wait.”
“No!” She panicked at the thought. He laughed at her excitement and that touch on her hip got tighter. “No,” she said, voice a bit calmer. “I want you, Kona.” He looked at her, smile gone, expression relaxed. “I’ve wanted you for weeks and weeks.” Keira exhaled, moving the hair off her forehead. “It’s just been a while and you’re so…” She flicked her eyes down then quickly back up again. “You’re a lot bigger than I expected.”
“Ha, sweetheart, you’re good for my ego, but it’s just me.” Kona kissed her again, slipping just the tip of his tongue into her mouth before he pulled away. “I’ll be easy with you, Wildcat. I’ll be so slow and good, but maybe this will help.”
Kona’s hand left her hip, slipped between her thighs easily and he coaxed more wetness from her, teasing her lips, taking his time to touch her clit. Keira shuddered, held her hand against his wrist as he continued and Kona took her lead, rubbed once more over her clit before he slipped two fingers inside her. He’d learned her body in the past few weeks and Keira had been grateful that she didn’t have to tell him what she wanted, what felt best. He always seemed to know.
His mouth was warm, tongue eager as he kissed her, as those large fingers curled and his knuckles touched the spot that sent her mind swimming. He never had to touch her for long, always knew exactly how to read the lift of her voice, the collection of sounds that gave away just how good she felt when he touched her. That night was no exception. Just a few sure rubs of his knuckles against her G-spot and Keira was flying, hips off the mattress as her body chased that orgasm.
“Beautiful. Every time, Wildcat. So beautiful.” Another kiss against her neck, with Keira still spinning on the crest of her orgasm and Kona slipped inside of her. “God…” Kona moved his hips slow, barely moved an inch and already Keira felt full, felt she couldn’t be stretched any further. When he slid deeper, she hissed, not from the pain but from how sensitive she already was. “You okay? You want me to stop?”
“No,” she told him, opening her eyes so he’d know she wasn’t hurting. “God, no, please keep going. You just fill me up. It’s so good, bebe.”
Kona stilled inside her and a small quirk of his mouth told Keira he was pleased. “That’s the first time you’ve ever called me that.”
“I’ll say it again just to keep that smile on your face.”
Then Keira lifted her legs, wrapped them around Kona’s hips and she let herself be filled as he worked inside her. Everything about Kona was huge; his body, his cock, his voice, his presence and all of it filled Keira’s room as well as her body, moved around them and through them and she felt high, so high on him, on the sensation of him moving inside of her, his hands on her breasts, his fingers clasped with hers as he lifted her hands above her head on the pillow and pinned them there.
Sweat pooled over their skin, met together in the twist of their bodies and when Kona stared down at her, kissed her like her lips would give him breath, Keira shuddered, squeezed against him. The light was thin and Keira could only make out the outline of his features, the small glint in his eyes and it was too much, too overwhelming, but she would not run this time, she wouldn’t tell herself she could do without this. Not again. Not anymore. She belonged to him. Her body, her heart, no matter how beaten and worn it was, belonged to Kona Hale.
Keira squeezed against him again and Kona stilled, stared down at her with a smile that told her he wanted to control this, lead her. “Don’t squeeze,” he said, pulling her hips up, hitting inside her deeper. “If you open up, baby, go wide for me, relax, I can make you come hard, I can make it last for you.” A slow thrust, deeper, harder and Keira arched against him, relaxed her inner muscles even as she throbbed against him. “Perfect, so perfect.”
This was deeper, freer somehow, letting Kona move them, letting him control the moment and Keira held onto Kona like he would anchor her, keep her from floating above herself.
“Come for me, baby. Give it to me completely and I’ll make it so, so good for you. I’ll take care of you when you shatter against me.” And Keira listened, guessed that this is what Kona needed—that slip of control she gave to him. She let go, pushed out, relinquishing herself, giving her body to Kona, rather than closing off, pulling in, and the effect was substantial. He moved in closer, worked faster and Keira let herself open, relax until that heavenly sensation came upon her, urged on by Kona’s strong hands on her hips, his wide dick touching all the way inside her and when the orgasm came, it mirrored her heart—free, unyielding, explosive.
God… ,” Kona said, voice rising higher and higher with each grunt he made, hips slamming into her hard, fast, faster, and Keira knew he was hitting his crest. Shoulders shaking, hips pumping faster and faster, Kona released a groan, filling her, throbbing inside her as he came.
Then he pulled his hand from hers and held the back of her neck, stared down at her with his thumb on her cheek. “This is always, Wildcat. You… you’re my always.”

Review: A Whole New Crowd by Tijan

Taryn was good at three things: swimming, stealing, and sex. She just needed to survive her new school, her past, and the newest drug dealer that arrived in town...

4 Stellar Stars!
Review by Natasha Gentile
Do you love books about spoiled wealth kids in high school?   Do you love books about the cool kids vs. the kids that don’t care if you like them or not? Do you love stories about teenage drama? Then you need to pick up this book.
Taryn was from the wrong side of the tracks. She was a thief. A foster child who got adopted at 17. She left behind her only “family” Jace and Brian.  Jace, her “brother” and Brian, her love.  How can she survive without her family?
Leaving everything she knows and loves behind to go and start over isn’t something that a 17 year old wants. But she does it because she wants better, she needs better, she deserves better. What she didn’t think would happened is that she would find new family; she would gain a brother, Austin, whom she would care so much about and a sister who she would die for, Mandy, who was also a popular kid, and because she’s her sister Taryn was considered popular, except she really didn’t fit in.  She was her own person.  She didn’t care that everyone was going to a party, if she didn't want to go she wasn't going.

She especially didn't think she would find someone to make her whole again, someone who would never ever leave her side through the good or the bad- Tray, the "IT" guy in school.  The one everyone wanted to be caught with, the one everyone was hoping to just look their way.

Tray was gorgeous with sandy blond hair. striking hazel eyes and a jaw that girls melted over. While my sister was in the crowd at the top, he was the top.

She tried to fight it, she tried to tell him that she wasn’t the one for him and that she was an “asshole.”

“I’m an asshole.’  I said it quietly, but it was the truth.  “I’m the one they want to change.”
The need for him was growing stronger and stronger.  I was starting not to care about staying in my chair.  “I won’t change,” I rasped.
“Neither will I.”
We were both assholes.  That had been established.
You never know what road is for you or what path your going on but when you have people walking that path with you, holding your hand you know that no matter what everything is going to be all right..

I wasn't an innocent, but he was making me feel new sensations again. It would be my first time with him. Knowing that I loved him, and he loved me, made everything right. It was perfect.

Review: Gina Maxwell's Tempting Her Best Friend

Alyssa Miller is tired of waiting for her next-door neighbor to see her as more than just his best friend. Ready to let off some steam, she heads to Las Vegas for a romance book convention where, if she's lucky, she’ll get down and dirty with one of the sexy cover models.

But when he realizes Alyssa intends to have a one-night stand on her vacation, he hauls ass after her to make sure he’s the one to scratch her itch.

Neither of them expects their explosive chemistry to burn hotter than the lights on the strip, but with a little help from Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, a flamboyant matchmaker, and TSA, what happens in Vegas might not stay in Vegas…
4 Vegas Style Stars!
Review by Allison East
This book was a fun, sexy read that centered around two best friends in love with each other- but neither one of them knowing it!

Gina Maxwell always has the sexiness down pat- I love her books. There really hasn't been a book I have read by her that I didn't enjoy. And Tempting Her Best Friend was no exception. And of course the friends as lovers bit- what's not to love?
Alyssa Miller is done being second best to her friend and roommate, Dillon. She needs to make changes in her life, and one of them is getting over him. She is ready for some no strings sex, Vegas style. And when she lays out her plans for Dillon- he is more than upset. He is downright furious. Although she has no idea- even though she is in love with him- that he is also in love with her.

He'd give her exactly what she wanted: excitement, passion, and multiple orgasms. Batteries not included.

When she arrives in Vegas expecting to find her one night stand, what she finds is a bright eyed Dillon ready to give her an offer she can't refuse. He has decided to let her have sex with him for the weekend, in hopes he makes her fall in love with him. She is hesitant at first- but then decides to jump in. But this is when the lines cross and blur. When he admits to wants to date her- she backs off. Scared and burned from her past- she is afraid of a Walk-away Joe, like her own father. Even Dillon is scared of leaving her- thanks to his good for nothing dad. But he decides he is all in with Aly- gator.

"I'm handing you my heart on a silver platter to do what you want with it. Because I realized today that no matter what, it'll only ever be yours, Aly."

And to top it off- it is really funny and has some great lines! She has comedy down to a certain science, you almost have to in a romance novel- because love can be fickle- but also funny!

"So, Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, a bride, and a gay guy walk into the Vegas airport."
I never get tired of the friends,  then lovers books, they are intriguing. The angst, the sexual frustration, the chemistry, the heartache, but finally the HEA. As a short novel, this one will go down in the books as a go to, fun beach read.

4 Stellar Stars

Review by Lisa Kane

I am a huge fan of Tillie Cole's two previous books in the Sweet Home series; Sweet Home and Sweet Rome. Those were centered on Romeo "Bullet"  Prince and Molly Shakespeare. But there was a wide canvas of secondary characters that could certainly carry their own stories and so this one is about Austin CArillo and Lexi Hart.

Austin is Romeo's best friend. Where as Romeo was the Alabama Crimson Tide's star quarterback, Austin is the star Wide Receiver. Both are being scouted for the NFL draft. Austin has a full scholarship due in part to Romeo's insistence that they were a package deal.  He would only come to play for Crimson Tide if Austin did too. Their backgrounds could not be more different. While Romeo's family is worth millions, Austin's lives in a trailer park, and are dirt poor. He has an older brother Axel, and a younger one, Levi. Both Austin and Axel were recruited to be in the Heighters; a  gang headed by Gio, one seriously bad guy. Austin got out finally, due to Romeo's help in his scholarship, and Gio let him go, without any repercussions. Or so he thought.

Austin's mom is dying from ALS and has no medical insurance. Her disease is advanced and she suffers excruciating pain. But there is no money to cover her pain meds. So Alex and his younger brother, Levi, are selling cocaine to get the funds to cover the meds. Austin is getting heat from the Dean who thinks he and his family are involved in the drug dealing that is occurring on campus. But Austin swears Alex wouldn't do that on school property. That would jeopardize his scholarship. He needs to keep going to school because this is his ticket to the NFL and his family's only hope to get out of poverty. But Austin is going to be proven wrong.

Lexi has serious issues. Both physical and mental. She writes about her daily struggles in her journal. She writes to her friend Daisy, who recently died. They shared many things. Some good, most bad. But it has taken Lexi 4 years to get back to functioning (or somewhat functioning) as a college student should be-she just made the senior cheerleading team for the Crimson Tide. She hides her pain and illness from her roommates. To look at her she appears to be a beautiful, carefree girl with no worries other than her next exam. When she looks in the mirror she sees an overweight, ugly face and body.

One night she is walking in the quad on the college's campus. She sees something she should not have seen. This will change her life. Austin confronts her to find out what she saw. If she tells the Dean or the campus police his family will suffer and he will get thrown of school. He threatens her and makes sure she knows he will make her pay if she talks. She takes him seriously, but he still sends death glares her way, enough that her friends start to notice and question what his problem is with her.

But circumstance and fate intervene and the two are thrown together in a situation where they must rely on each other. This is the moment that things changed between them and they were able to see each has enormous pain and suffering. But how can two such broken people, who can not even fix themselves, help the other?

"I was never good enough for you, Pix. I'm trash; you're gold. I ain't having you brought into this piece of shit trash world I live in. You deserve more than me, more from life. So much fuckin' more. I'll only ever drag you down."

This story has a different vibe to it than the first two in the series. While each held heartache, this has an underlying theme of drugs and gang violence. This one has parts that are very disturbing, and tarnish the halo of our hero. He is not a nice guy to Lexi for a good portion of the book for many reasons. To his credit he doesn't know the extent of her illness but the stress he puts on her causes her to break and retreat to a dark, lonely place. He has no idea that she is so damaged with self esteem issues. While she is soothing to him, he believes he is toxic for her. This story gives a small insight into certain disorders and how they can cripple and even kill. It was difficult to read about the thoughts that are in Lexi's mind and how they control her. Her battle to stay sane is just heartbreaking.

"So you see, Pix, I have scars too. It's just mine are on the outside where everyone can see."

I wasn't sure how long we just stood there like that, two fucked up emo kids confessing our sins, but it was enough time for me to realize one thing: I was falling hard for the little pixie.

There were several things that bothered me in this book. First was the lack of funds for the pain meds. While money is obviously short for this family, medications would rarely be an issue. As someone who works in the health care industry, medical assistance in the state of Alabama would have covered meds related to the mother's illness. Had rent or food been the reason, I would have related better. Reading about Austin's bargain with the devil, Gio, made me lose faith in him. For whatever his reason was, these are hard core drugs, not just weed, this guy is involved with. His treatment of Lexi was so harsh at different times in this book, even when he had the best of intentions. I felt he was a catalyst in her downward spiral.

In spite of those things, I did get the good feels reading this one. There are passaged regarding Austin's mom that were so beautiful and touching that tears spilled over my eyes. For all his faults Austin was a son who loved his mama more than life itself. In her eyes he was a good person, it just took a while for him to see that.

Mamma panted heavily and eventually calmed enough to say,"Austin..I'm so proud...of you. Prom...promise me...you'll save Levi..." Brushing her hand over my lips, I pressed a kiss to her fingers and nodded. "Te lo guiro, Mamma. I swear it to you. I'll find a way to save him."
