Synopsis

The sparks of dislike burn hot, but the sparks of mutual attraction burn even hotter.

Ever Montgomery suffered the ultimate betrayal by the one man who she should have been able to count on for anything. It has left her hurt, jaded and incapable of forming relationships, but it also means that she can spot a liar a mile away.  These traits are earning her a reputation as a reporter with a keen nose for a good story and a complete understanding of the extreme power of the written word.

Lincoln Caldwell, is the hot goalie for the New York Rangers. At twenty-four and a rising star, he works hard and he plays even harder. He’s gorgeous and carefree—the ultimate charmer.  Ladies fall at his feet and the single life has never been lived the way Linc Caldwell does it.

When Ever publishes an article about Linc containing information that she received off the record, she finds herself on the receiving end of the athlete’s fury.  Rather than basking in the glory of exposing Linc as a shameless user of women, she finds herself at his mercy when he demands and receives retribution.  Required by her editor to trail Linc for six weeks, Ever is forced to look at the real Linc Caldwell.

And she just might find that she has misjudged him.

4.5 star review

"Because...he had the power to make me cry.  Nothing...no one...makes me cry.  Except for Linc Caldwell.  That means he's reached something deeper than anyone else has ever touched before."

Ever Montgomery has been hurt by the one person who was supposed to love her and take care of her.    Her father left when she was 16 leaving her to take care of her sick mother.  And years later her boyfriend cheated on her with her friend.  The betrayal that she has experienced has caused her to close off her heart.

Ever is living in NY and working for The NY Post as a reporter.  She has just landed an interview with NY Rangers goalie Linc Caldwell, thanks to her her friend who also happens to be the girlfriend of Linc's brother.  Ever knows that Linc is hot and sexy and probably has women throwing themselves at him.  When she first meets him she can't deny how gorgeous he is and after talking and interviewing him she finds that he is actually a nice guy, but at the end of the interview when he asked her out on a date, she kindly says no.  Something happens after the party, that causes her opinion of Linc to change.  She sees him as the player that she had thought him to be and decides to use the "off the record" info she has against him.  She publishes her article and makes Linc out to be a womanizing jerk..  This is her way of getting back at him for what she "thinks" she heard and saw.

Linc Caldwell doesn't really do the girlfriend thing.  He is sexy, charming, carefree and can have any girl he wants.  Oh did I also mention that he is the goalie for the New York Rangers?  He agrees to do an interview with Ever Montgomery, who is good friends with his brother's girlfriend.  When he meets Ever for the first time he is mesmerized by her beautiful eyes and cannot deny that there is an attraction.  He enjoyed his time talking with her and asked her out on a date.  But when she declined he just decided to move on, and forget Ever.  Until he sees the article she posted and to say he was angry is an understatement.  Linc decides that a retraction just won't be enough.  He wants Ever to get to know the real him, not the one she thinks she knows.  For the next 6 weeks Ever will follow Linc around, living with him and get to know the real man behind the goalie mask.   At the end of the 6 weeks she is to write a new article and an apology.

Linc and Ever have such an intense sexual connection that they cannot deny but are also afraid to admit.  Ever is there for one reason, to do her job.  Yes, Linc is sexy and gorgeous and charming but she never expected him to be the sweet and caring man that he is. She realizes that not only is he good at what he does but he works hard for it, he loves his family, and he has compassion for others.  There is more to Linc Caldwell than Ever realizes.  The more she sees the real Linc the more she starts falling for him.  But her biggest issue is trust.  Due to her past she has built this wall of ice around her heart, refusing to let anyone break it.

Things start to heat up between the two of them and in the beginning it seems to be just about the physical attraction.  As they start opening up to each other and start spending more time together they realize that things between them have changed.  It's not just about sex, there is more to their relationship that runs deeper then sex.  Feelings are now starting to surface, feelings that neither one of them planned or expected.  Linc slowly chips away at that block of ice she has built, and manages to take hold of her heart in a way that scares the heck out of her.  There was never a question about whether or not Linc was attracted to Ever.  But once he really gets beneath the surface of Ever Montgomery,  he sees someone who has been hurt, and betrayed and let down by the people she has loved most in her life. He also see a beautiful woman on the inside and out, and finds himself falling for her.  They both realize that they have feelings for each, but admitting them to each other is another story.   But when Linc decides to share those feelings with Ever, will she embrace his love or will she run away?

"Ever...don't let there be any doubt that I want you.  Only you.  You're all I fucking think about."

I loved Linc Caldwell and I loved him even more with Ever.  The sexual tension between them is electrifying and when they are finally together their chemistry is explosive.  Those first few moments when they were together were hot and sexy, and will make you wish you had a Linc Caldwell in your life!  I loved Ever! I felt the emotions that she was going through and understood her fear of getting close to someone again.  I wanted to see her happy, wanted her to believe in love and be able to move forward, leaving her past behind her.  She needed to realize that not every man is like her father or her ex.  There is a man out there who wants to love her the way she deserves to be loved and that man is Linc.

"Ever...I love you.  I am insanely, madly, head-over-ass in love with you.......You're like the very air I breathe...I need you to survive."

Off the Record is a wonderful story about forgiveness and trust.  About learning to move on from your past in order to open up your heart again.  Sawyer Bennett has a way of connecting her readers to the characters on an emotional level.  She creates characters that people can relate to. I loved every minute of Ever and Linc's story.  Off the Record will bring out all the emotions; happy, sad, anger and frustration.  There are those swoon worthy moments that will melt your heart.  But for me the most amazing part was the end.  Ever finally writes her story on Linc Caldwell and it is not something you want to miss.

"If I was dying and only had a few days to live, my bucket list would consist of nothing but having Linc hold me in his arms."

If you have not read the other books in this series then I highly recommend that you do.  One of the many things that I love about this series and Sawyer's writing is that each book is different in it's own way.  The first book, Off Sides is a sweet love story about two people from opposite sides of the tracks, whereas Off Limits is a beautiful love story that explores deeper issue such as PTSD and the affects of it.  And of course Off the Record which is about trust and forgiveness.  The one thing that all the books in this series do have in common, besides the amazing writing, is that they all have a very sexy and swoon worthy hero and an  extremely loveable heroine.

Another fantastic job by Sawyer Bennett.  Cannot wait for the next one!!
