Blog Tour Interview and Review: Blessed Fate by H.B. Heinzer

Colton Bradford never believed in love at first sight. And then, Rain Maxwell walked through his buddy's front door. He knew there was something special underneath the shy, guarded exterior and was determined to find out what it was.

The problem? Rain had devised her own set of life rules and “Never get involved with a band mate” was right near the top of that list. She allowed Colton into her heart as one of her closest friends, but pushed him away at the mention of anything more.

When tragedy strikes Rain's personal life, Colton is determined to be there for her in whatever way she'll allow. Will she finally open up to him and consider taking things to the next level? Will Colton's ways of trying to bury his feelings for Rain in the past ruin the possibility of a future for them?

4 Star Review

As crazy as it might sound, I felt a connection to Rain from the moment she walked into Travis’ apartment five years ago as a broken and scared girl who didn’t trust anyone. Before I even knew her name, I wanted to protect her, make her feel safe and teach her how to open up to people again.

The moment Colton Bradford laid eyes on Rain Maxwell, he knew he had to be with her and he wanted to fix her and was completely taken by this petite woman with such a big voice. Once Rain joined the band Blessed Tragedy ,she had this rule of NEVER getting romantically involved with her band mates.
Colton has no choice but to do the friend thing with her. While trying to win Rain’s heart, Colton makes some decisions that will do more harm than good. When Rain loses someone dear to her, Colton is there for her and he is able to convince her that they belong together.

“Matt, I have never had sex with your sister. We are friends, nothing more. If it was up to me, yes, I’d be one-hundred percent committed to her and only her, but that’s not what she wants. So last night, I was in her room as a friend, taking care of her like I have for the past five years. You can believe that or not, but there it is.”

Finally with the girl he had been after for the past 5 years, Colton’s love and faith in Rain is put to the test and his choices could destroy the one thing he has always wanted with Rain, a future filled with love.

“Never in my life did I think there would be a woman I’d be willing to chase after for five years when she kept turning me down. And then I met you. And more than once, I thought I was insane to keep trying when you told me you’d never date a bandmate. At least once, I debated leaving the band so that would no longer be an issue. All I knew was I needed to be with you.”

I loved being able to this story from Colton’s point of view.  He had been pining for Rain for FIVE years and he was so torn up about it. Does he take her and kiss the living daylights out of her so she will understand how deep his feelings run or does he play it safe? He chooses safe, but he is also a man with needs and those needs put him in a predicament.

His patience and devotion to Rain is never ending and from the get go he has proved how much he cares for Rain. It took a tragic incident to open Rain eyes for her and for her to finally admit her feelings for Colton.I was cheering for him when he finally got his girl. Their relationship was anything but smooth- and the things he did for her! He is so thoughtful, romantic and oh yeah, did I mention he gets a piercing? *fans self off* HOT! You know what they say, all good things come to an end. Yup, Colton messes up BIG TIME.  We can all relate to being hurt by the ones you love and when Colton hurts Rain, you are left feeling hurt, disappointment and anger.

I love when a story takes me on an emotional journey and I am able to experience the happiness, the loss, the heart aches and the frustrations. It is amazingly satisfying, especially when you are able to connect with the characters. Life lessons are learned, each character is able to take their experience and grow from it.

HB Heinzer wrote an awesome story and Colton is definitely a one of a kind rock star that you can’t help but fall in love with but then also want to smack! I adored this story!

Our Interview with Colton

“That’s it. I am buying myself a beach house! Look at how freaking beautiful this is!” Kristie states, as she gets out of the car. “Maybe the three of us could all invest in a beach front property,” Lisa says, while taking in the scenery. Jen looks over to Kristie and Lisa and rolls her eyes and asks, “Ladies, are you going to continue to drool over the scenery or are we going to go and interview the hottie?” “Sorry,” both Lisa and Kristie mumble, as we walk towards the front door. Kristie knocks on the door while saying, “I wonder if Rain will be here?”“Well, we are about to find out,” Jen says, while the door starts to open. Colton is there. His dark blond hair tied back. Lisa offers her hand ,“Hey there, I'm Lisa and this is Kristie and Jennifer. We're the Three Chicks, it is great to finally meet you.” Colton invites us in and directs us to the back of the house. It is amazing. We end up sitting outside, enjoying the ocean breeze and fresh air. “So Colton, you ready to do this,” Kristie asks with a smirk on her face. Colton nods in agreement.

Three Chicks: First off, we would like to congratulate you on your engagement. You got your girl! (All three Chicks give Colton a high five) Do you have a date set for the wedding?

Colton: (Colton holds up his left hand) Actually, we got married last month. With everything that happened with Rain's family and losing her mom, Rain really wanted to do something special. Since we don't keep any sort of normal work schedule, we got married on a Thursday afternoon in her parents' backyard. It was the anniversary of her mom's death, so it was emotional, but it brought a little happiness to a bad day.

Three Chicks: What was is about Rain that made you fall for her?

Colton: When she walked into Travis's apartment, she looked ridiculously cute. I've never been a love at first sight type of guy, and I still don't know if that's what it was, but I wanted to get to know her as soon as I saw her.
Once we started talking music, that is when I think I started to fall for her. She knows everything about every band out there, or so it seems. When she challenged me before she sang for us the first time, it was all over. I knew I wanted her to be mine.

Three Chicks: You mentioned that your mom said you were a fixer. Were you trying to fix Rain?

Colton: Definitely. It's not something I try to do, it's just who I am. I hate seeing my friends in pain, and Rain had boatloads of it. It's still something we struggle with sometimes because she gets in these moods that I want to help her out of, but she wants her time to process things and move on.

Three Chicks: When she finally agreed to take your relationship to the next level how did that make you feel?

Colton: How do you think it made me feel? Have you ever really wanted something and you had to sit there and wait around to see if you'd get it? Now, think about being that way for five flippin' years. Yeah, I was pretty damn happy. It was probably the first time I didn't want to do a show. I wanted to take her into the back of the bus and strip her naked. Then again, it's a good thing we didn't have time for that because I still say the back of the tour bus would be a crappy place for that type of memory.

Three Chicks: We know you don’t do the groupie thing but what on earth possessed you to sleep with Tanya? Especially knowing how Rain felt about her. It was clear that Tanya wasn’t a fan of Rain’s to begin with.  Why did you risk Rain finding out and completely ruining your chances with her? Why not pick up some chick at a bar? (Kuddos for practicing safe sex with that crazy bitch btw)

Colton: She was there, I was drunk. Not a good excuse, but seriously, would there be any reasoning that could make that decision a good one? And Tanya's problems with Rain were fairly minimal before I started screwing her.
And picking up a chick at the bar? No thanks. I've seen some of the bat-shit crazy broads Jon has to deal with. I think I would rather be celibate than deal with that headache.

Three Chicks: Have you come clean with Rain? Does she know that you and Tanya were sleeping together?

Colton: Oh yeah, she found out the day she stopped by Jon's house and Tanya was there. Given the rant that lunatic was on, there was no way to keep it from her.
Rain was pissed at first, but she knew it was only when we weren't together. I'll probably never live down that mistake, but it's okay because, in the end, I got the girl and Tanya got jail time.

Three Chicks: How long were you sleeping with Tanya?
Colton: Way too long! Looking back, it’s easy to say that. I think it was about six months, but it feels like it was much longer.
Three Chicks: Why did you let it go on for as long as it did?
Colton: Convenience? Seriously, I have no clue why I let it go on. I think the other part of it is that once I started sleeping with her, I had a feeling she wasn’t going to make it easy for me to sever ties. Granted, I never thought she’d go as crazy as she did, but I knew something would happen. And there was a point where she started threatening to expose what was going on. What can I say? I’m an idiot sometimes.

Three Chicks: You guys (the band) hurt Rain, but you did the most damage by not trusting her, the woman you claim to love more than anything. What have you learned from this?

Colton: That's a toughie. Yes, I screwed up big because I didn't trust her. At the same time, she has a long history of battling her demons. In the time we were on the road, things were piling up on her. She had made comments a few times about wanting the pain to go away. In the past, that was where she was right before she had a slip with her sobriety.
Would I do things differently in the future? I'd like to think we're at a place now where we could talk about where she is and get her help. I know now that she is very committed to staying clean, so I'd like to think there'd be no question if I could trust her or not.

Three Chicks: What would you have done if Rain hadn’t come back to the band, hadn’t come back to you?

Colton: Don't even wanna think about that. As a group, we would have been screwed. Personally, it would have crushed me. I would have deserved it, but I'm not sure if I would have gotten past that.

Three Chicks: The first time you were with Rain, was it everything you imagined it would be? Was she worth the wait?

Colton: Totally! In some ways, I think waiting so long, and then waiting again, made it even hotter. We knew each other on such a deep level, there was an emotional connection that a lot of new couples don't have.

Three Chicks: How is your piercing working out for you? *All three Chicks blush*

Colton: (Colton blushes and looks down at the floor) I could still kill all of them for making that public knowledge. Do you know what it's like to have random people, guys and girls alike, stop you to ask about your cock? Well, I suppose you three wouldn't, but think about it!
But since you asked... yeah, let's just say it's worked out very well for both of us. Hurt like a bitch and gave me blue balls for a while, but TOTALLY worth it!

Three Chicks: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Colton: Well, I obviously hope we're still rockin' it out. Hopefully, we'll keep growing as a group.
Personally, I really hope that Rain and I will be following the band in our own motor home, at least one kid in tow. It's something we've both talked about and both want. But, you know Rain... she's worried about what starting a family will do to the band, so she's told me we can practice for now, but she wants to hold off on actually trying to get pregnant for at least a year or two.

“Colton, Thank you so much for inviting us into your home.” Jen stands and gives him a hug. Lisa turns to hug him as well and says, “Congratulations on the wedding! We are so happy for your two and wish you nothing but the best.” Kristie goes to hug Colton and says, “ You are a good man and I am so glad you have done right by Rain, congratulations and we hope to talk with the both of you sometime in the future.” Being the gentleman he is, Colton walks us to the door. We say our goodbyes and head back to the car. “That was a good interview. He is so laid back and his love for Rain is amazing, Lisa says, while unlocking the car. “I know right,” Kristie says while getting into the car. Jen pipes in saying ,“You two are right, we should look into getting beach front property, it is so serene.” Kristie and Lisa look at each other and laugh. “Ok ladies, let’s get home,” Lisa says as we drive away.

About the author

Some writers can tell you what book piqued their interest in writing a book of their own. I can’t. Other authors tell you the name of a teacher who influenced and encouraged them to write. The only English teacher I can remember probably does deserve some of the credit for my success because she was one of the hardest teachers I ever had. Honestly, I don’t know why I write; all I know is it’s one of two things I can do that makes me feel completely free.

The first “official” writing I did was as a fifteen year old high school sophomore. My dad was part of an APAzine and, for whatever reason, I started guest writing on his zine. That led to me getting a zine of my own in the Turbo Charged Party Animal APA. Rope the Moon (named after the John Michael Montgomery song and a nod to my dad’s influence on me) was the ramblings of a child in a world of adults.

I was held to a high standard because most of the contributors were my dad’s age. They were somewhat hesitant to allow a kid in, but they voted me in after those guest contributions. To this day, I feel blessed to consider some of those members friends.

Sometime after high school, life got in the way of my dreams. They keyboard was dusty. Looking back, that’s also when I felt my most restless. After my daughter was born, I started my first blog, More Than Mom, as a way to vent about my struggle to hold onto the identity I’d owned for 27 years.

In 2006, I heard about NaNoWriMo for the first time. I jumped in with the enthusiasm of anyone who’s never tried to write a 50,000 word novel in a month. It was a damn good story. Did I mention I’d never written anything of that length before? Yeah, that’s important because it means I never lost a work in progress of that length before. It was November 14th and I was over 24,000 words when my hard drive failed. And with the loss of my manuscript, I lost the drive to write for a while.

In 2012, I attempted NaNoWriMo again, this time saving in so many places I’m sure I’ll be finding partial copies of Bent everywhere until the day I die. The thing they don’t tell you with NaNo? When you hit 50,000 words, that doesn’t mean you’re done writing! So, I kept writing until I was done. And then I edited. And edited some more. Deleted a bunch of scenes, added others in. Had some trusted friends and mentors read it and then tweaked it some more.

In January 2013, I made the single scariest click of my mouse that I will ever make. I published Bent. It’s been a whirlwind year and it keeps picking up pace but I’ve never before felt so blessed to be where I am!

I’d love to hear from you! Feel free to email me at hbheinzer@gmail.com with questions, comments or even a good joke!
