Review: Schooled by Piper Lawson

New Adult Contemporary Romance
Expected Release: June 1, 2015

Twenty-one year old Alexis Caine is so close to her dream she can taste it. And it tastes like validation and Häagen-Dazs.
In a few months she'll graduate with a shiny new business degree and launch a fashion label with her best friend Ava. All the planning, the dedication, and the saying ‘no’ to everything—and everyone—will have been worth it.
Then Dylan Cameron, Ava’s tall, dark and broody younger brother, returns from the East coast. Lex has hardly seen him in years and given his reputation for partying, girls, and worse, that’s just fine with her.
But suddenly Dylan’s all grown up. And a dangerous night of unplanned confessions for both of them threatens to tear Lex's carefully constructed world off its axis.
Because one sassy control freak plus one prodigal son equals chemistry that refuses to be ignored.

4 Star Review by Jen Skewes

Schooled is the first book in the Travesty series and Piper Lawson’s debut novel.  I think for her first novel this author did a wonderful job with the story and the writing.  I loved the characters that she created and really enjoyed this one.

Alexis and Ava have been friends for as long as they can remember.  They have big plans for when the graduate college.  They are going to start their own design company, with Ava being the designer and Alexis taking care of the business side of things.  For their last year of college they have sworn off all men.  No relationships or anything that will distract them from their future plans.  But then Dylan Cameron, Ava’s younger brother, unexpectedly shows up on the night of her birthday party and changes things for Lex.

Dylan is Ava’s younger brother.  He is very good looking and the girls love him.  He was known as the bad boy in high school, the one that would get in trouble and have girls fighting over him.  He shows up one night at Alexis’ birthday party and comforts her in a way she did not expect.  While her and Dylan were never really close she knew the type of person he was.  At least she thought she did.  You know the saying “don’t judge a book by it’s cover”?  Well Alexis certainly judged Dylan based on his reputation and soon sees that maybe she was completely wrong about him.  They share a kiss that night and it is one that neither one of them can forget.  Dylan wants more but Lex not only made a pact with Ava there is just no way she can date her best friends little brother.  Will Alexis give in to whatever it is that she is feeling for Dylan?

I really enjoyed this book.  I found myself having a hard time putting it down.  I really liked Dylan.  At first I honestly wasn’t sure if I would but he was a lot different than I thought he would be.  He was more than just the sexy bad boy that people saw him as.  He had a heart and deep down was a really sweet guy.  Alexis I loved but at the same time I became a little frustrated with her.  She wanted Dylan but was so afraid of being with him.  I understood her reasons but once she decided to give it a chance I was hoping that she would just go all in with Dylan. That she would deal with the consequences and just be with him.

Schooled is a really sweet and sexy read which I really enjoyed.  As I mentioned I could not put this book down.  I wanted to see what would happened between Dylan and Lex.  Would they be able to make it work?   And if they did what would happen when Ava found out?  But while I was anxious to see what would happen as I got to the end things fell just a little short for me.  For me personally I felt that there were some situations that could have been resolved a little better.  I wanted the author to go more in depth about one or two situations.  I felt like I still had questions that I needed answers to.  And since I am such a sucker for an epilogue I wished that there was one and we saw a little more of Dylan and Alexis.  But I am hoping to see more in Ava’s story.  And I am very curious to see who she ends up with.

About the Author
Schooled is Piper Lawson’s debut novel. Piper loves reading and writing stories about sassy, sexy, smart women and the guys who fall hard for them.
Piper’s main household expenditures include books, shoes, and chocolate, not necessarily in that order. Coffee = life (and she’ll defend it accordingly, especially when cornered). Piper has two business degrees, neither of which she’s leveraged into a fashion label.
Home is Canada plus occasional sunny winter escapes.
