Is it possible two people with broken pasts can feel whole again together?
Kayla Sinclair has had a thing for Logan Knight for a long time. They have mutual friends, run into each other all the time and yet Logan has always friend zoned Kayla. He puts all his time and energy into his job as a detective. But he is hiding something.
However, this time he forgot to mention one tiny detail of why he’s so guarded and reluctant to date anyone.
But Kayla being a good snoop, discovers what he’s hiding. It’s not earth shattering, and she can certainly deal with it. After all, she has a whopper of a secret that she’s never told.
He’s hoarding secrets like a double layer of Spanx and there’s barely enough wiggle room to breathe, but that doesn’t mean I’m not up for the challenge.
Logan has a lot of baggage, but I think he makes way too much of it. It has been six years since he was involved with someone and this guy acts like he’s never been in a relationship. Of course, he finally gives in to the attraction he’s long felt for Kayla but then he blows hot and cold.
“It’s not the right time for me to date anyone and if we were to get involved, I’d just fuck it up and everything would be ruined.”
Kayla has turned her life around. Shuffled from foster home to foster home sixteen times (!) while she was growing up, she has made a good living for herself. She has a great job as decorator, wonderful friends and is proud of what she has accomplished. So why she tries so hard to get Logan is beyond me-I would have given up a long time ago. She tries dating other guys, but her heart is stuck on Logan. He is trying to work through his own pile of demons, but it’s slow going. There’s some intrigue with the case he’s working on that spills over to Kayla’s life.
“This is exactly why we can’t get involved. I don’t share my past with anyone.”
This is a duet, so obviously it’s a cliffy. While I have adored the previous books from Kennedy Fox, this one felt a little flat to me. I just didn’t relate to Logan and thought Kayla put her own feelings second to his too many times. However, I am still interested in the story to want to read the sequel.
When you find a girl who makes you feel normal and wanted again, you grab on tight and you don’t let go.
