Release Blitz and Review: Dax by Sawyer Bennett

Dax (Arizona Vengeance, Book #4)

Sawyer Bennett

Release Date: July 9, 2019

Synopsis:

The Arizona Vengeance is killing it on the ice. But one player can’t seem to keep his eye on the puck—all thanks to the woman he just married to save her life.

My name is Dax Monahan and hockey is my passion. And if you want to succeed in this sport you have to bust your ass 24/7. I’ve never had a hard time focusing on my career, but when my past comes knocking, no amount of training can prepare me for what lies on the other side of the door.

Regan Miles was always like a sister to me. When a shared tragedy brings us face to face after several years, I’m shocked to see just how much she’s changed. Gone is the shy, awkward little girl that always used to chase me and her brother around. Instead, I’m faced with a gorgeous woman who makes it damn hard to concentrate on anything but her.

Turns out, she’s in trouble, and the only way out is to get married.

I surprise myself when I tell her to marry me. Order her, actually. And most shocking of all, she doesn’t even hesitate before saying yes.

So it’s settled. We’re getting hitched and she’s moving to Arizona with me. All platonic, of course.

The catch?

I never knew I’d fall so hard for my best friend’s little sister.

Review by Trinette Dungee

Dax Monohan’s life has been hockey for as long as he can remember. It’s always been his main priority, so relationships have never been his thing. No way would a woman want to come second to his first love. He’s had his share of women and he’s pretty happy with his life for now. When he receives the shocking news that his best friend has been murdered he starts to look at life differently and when he learns his best friend’s little sister needs him in ways he never imagined he does the one thing he thinks can fix it all…he marries her.

When I read “Bishop” (book one in the AV series) and was first introduced to Dax I thought he was an okay dude, a bit of a player but for the most part, he was okay. As the series progressed I began to see more and more that he was actually one of the good guys who would do anything for his friends.

Finding out Regan is suffering from a life-threatening disease with no way of paying for the treatments he does what he thinks his deceased best friend would want him to do. He offers Regan marriage as a way of having her medical expenses covered. They’d be married in name only because there is no way it could be any other way with the woman he’s always seen as a younger sister. Dax and Regan quickly realize that this arrangement is not going to work as smoothly as they both thought because for Dax, Regan is not longer a little girl. She’s a grown woman that has him having fantasies that Lance most definitely wouldn’t appreciate.

I have to say; this story did not go in the direction I thought it would. I really thought after the loss of his friend Dax would go through a downward spiral to some extent. He didn’t though he was the true “take charge” kind of guy who got the job done. He was a little pushy at time but because it was coming from his heart that you kind of just get over and let it slide. His heart was just as big as his love for hockey, if not bigger.

Dax’s story kind of takes place parallel to Legend’s story so there’s some overlapping but nothing that overshadows or takes away from Dax’s story. Unless of course you didn’t read Legend’s story, then you might wonder what all that was about, but you’d never do that because you’d read Sawyer’s books in order, right? I digress. Anywho, you get to see the full Dax and his family dynamic and his family values and how he views teammates as his brothers. He’s definitely good in a crisis!

For whatever reason, I really didn’t think I was going to like Regan but I liked her and I loved her and Dax together. I thought their chemistry was awesome. While the hotness is there, not ever guy is always going to be the swoon worthy guy. For me Dax is the guy you want to see happy with the woman of his dreams but for you he’s the older brother you wish had. That’s where Dax lands on the meter for me. He’s a good guy, he’s a sweet guy, he’s a loving guy and I just want to hang with him!!!

Now no Sawyer Bennett book would be complete without the indication of storylines to come of other characters and Dax is no different. I think the storyline that’s been intriguing most of us is Tacker’s story. We get a little more Tacker in this book too and it just makes waiting for his story that much harder. She even gives a little excerpt of Tacker’s story at the end of Dax but I couldn’t read it, it would be too much of a tease.

As if that isn’t bad enough, we are also introduced to Dominick Carlson, owner of the Arizona Vengeance and he has his sights set on no other than Dax’s sister Willow and based on the personalities of those two their story seems to be shaping up to be an explosive story.

Another slam dunk for Sawyer.

Review: Free Fall by Abigail Davies

We were never meant to meet; our paths shouldn’t have crossed.

And yet they did.

As an undercover DEA agent, I always thought things through. I didn’t take chances, because I knew one misstep could have disastrous consequences.

Until I met her.
The little sister of my next target.

Lola was a feisty young woman trying to claw her way out of a bad neighborhood.
She was forbidden in every sense of the word, and not just because of the sixteen year age gap.

We were taught to expect the unexpected, but nothing could have prepared me for what was about to happen.

I fell hard.
I fell fast.
I freefalled heart first.

But there was a secret I was keeping, and if revealed, it’d destroy the lives of those I’d vowed to protect.

One wrong move and everything could erupt in our faces.
All that remained was one question...
Was she worth it?

Free Fall is book one in the Fallen Duet. A two-part, angst-fuelled, gripping tale of forbidden love, complete with a jaw-dropping twist you’ll never see coming.

OMG, this book!!  This is the first book that I have read by this author and I cannot wait to read more.  I heard so many great things about this book prior to it’s release that I knew I needed to get my greedy hands on it.  And I am so glad that I did.  From the moment I first started reading to the Holy Crap ending that I did not see coming at all, I was completely sucked in!!

Lola is a 19 year old girl who is living with her step brother, in a bad neighborhood.  She goes to school and works hard so she can find herself a place to live and escape the hell that she is living in now.  Her step-brother Hut is not the same person that she met years ago, the boy who she felt safe with.  Nowadays, she tries her best to not be around him and his “crew”. He has rules that he expects her to follow, and for the most part she does. Until she meets the newest member of his crew, Brody.

Brody is on an assignment to take down Hut and his boys.  When he meets his younger sister, he thinks that she is going to be his way in. Until he gets to know her. Falling for his target’s sister was never in the plan, but meeting Lola has completely turned his world upside down. Falling for her could ruin everything, but being without her doesn’t seem like an option for him either.  When she finds out the truth will she hate him? Will she run from him?  Or will she be able to forgive him?  I’m about to start book two and find out!!

I cannot begin to tell you how much I loved this book.  First of all Brody completely captured me from the moment I met him. I loved him!! He is sweet when it comes to Lola.  You can see and feel how much he wants to protect her and care for her. Yes he is 16 years older that her but that was never even a thought in my mind.  And when he call her darlin’, my God I just melted.

I r4ally loved Lola and how strong and independent she tried to be.  I hated Hut and wanted nothing for the best for her. I wanted to see her succeed, to move out and walk from the life she was stuck in.  But most of all I wanted to see her and Brody together. They were just perfect.

This is an unforbidden romance and not just because of the age difference.  There are more reasons why these two cannot be together.  There will be obstacles along the way along with drama and angst.  And let’s not forget the cliffhanger that will shock you!!  I cannot wait to see what happens next!!

Review: Never Fall in Love With a Rock Star

My name is Clover Calloway and I’ve lived two separate lives.

The first, I like to call “my past.” I never talk about it. I try not to think about it. My rockstar days of playing in one of the hottest bands on the planet are over. Along with the most volatile, beautiful, tragic love story of all time.

Over the past five years, I’ve settled into my second life. My “normal life.” The one where I work a normal job, hang out with normal people and fall in love with a normal, but wonderful guy. The life where I’m admittedly a little bored, but also safe.

My past wasn’t boring. But my past broke my heart into a million, unfixable pieces. So, I’m determined to keep it where it belongs—behind me.

And the man responsible for the shattering of me? Malachi Porter, lead singer and mastermind of Bright Tragedy, should stay there too. Far away from me and this idyllic life I’ve carved out for myself.

But what happens when my two lives collide?

When Malachi comes crashing into my perfectly normal world, he threatens to destroy it, promises to annihilate everything I’ve replaced him with.

He upends everything I thought I wanted and forces me to question the reasons I left Bright Tragedy all those years ago.

But I didn’t walk away five years ago, I ran. As fast as I could go. And while my heart is whispering that it’s different this time—that he’s different—my brain is screaming for me to run again.

Malachi Porter isn’t a normal guy. And he doesn’t belong in my “normal life.” But, nevertheless, he’s bound and determined to make a place for himself here.

I just hope my heart can survive him, that we don’t burn into another bright tragedy.

Review by Jen Skewes

I loved this book!! A second chance romance is always one of my favorites to read.  There were ups and downs, my emptions all over the place. It felt like my heart was in my throat the entire time, finally able to let out the breath that I had been holding from the moment I started reading.  From the very first page Clover sucked me into her life and I did not want to let go.

Clover walked away from the love of her life five years ago.  And in a way I think she also left a part of herself behind as well.  It hurt to leave it all behind but staying would have destroyed her even more.  She was determined to start a new life where no one knew who she was.  And things were going just as she had planned, until she ran into her past, literally.

Kai is back in her life, and while she still wants to put him behind her, he will not make it easy for her. She tries so hard to deny the fact that what they has is still very strong.  She has a new life now and she is determined to make it work. But Kai is not only persistent, there is this pull when it comes to him.  And no matter how hard she tries to resist she can’t.  Is it worth the risk to give their love another chance?

I loved the emotions that those book brought out of me.  The relationship between Kai and Clover was intense and you felt the love and passion when the two of them were together.  That is what drew me in, was the feelings, the passion, the intensity of their story. They were away from each other for five years, but their love never died.  They just both grew in those five years.  It was a beautiful second chance love story.  I hope we get to see more of these characters in the future.

Review: Disenchanted by LD Davis

I had plans for myself, to have a successful career, to be independent, and have a good time. My philosophy as a young, silly girl was that I was here for a good time, not for a long time. I didn’t plan to have children, never planned to be married, and I certainly didn’t intend to be a widow before I reached the age of thirty. One day when I woke up, my reality was everything I’d never wanted.

After the accident that took my husband’s life, there wasn’t time to think of myself. I was a widow with three small children and had a mother recovering from a heart attack that had nearly killed her. My appearance, my health, and especially my happiness, were no longer considerations, until I met Marco Mangini. He made me long for things to be different, for me to be different. He made me feel alive…and terrified.

It’s been a little while since reason am LD Davis book and this series is so worth the wait.  I missed her writing and all the feels that goes with it.

Lydia is a widow and now a single Mom to three beautiful children.  After almost eight years her and her sister are finally repairing their relationship and moving on from the hurt of their past. When she gets news that her sister needs her she packs her kids up and goes to be with her.  It’s also where she meets Marco, the man who will turn her world completely upside down in a way she never expected and at the same time has a hard time embracing.

So much has happened to Lydia in the past 8 years.  She has her guard up and is still dealing with so much. While she can admit that Marco is gorgeous, she has a hard time trusting him and really opening up to him.  But Marco is persistent and will not let her “hide” so to speak.  He manages to slowly peel back one layer at a time.  She’s finally opened up to the idea of being with him and Marco sharing her life.  Until she feels like she is totally out of his league and not good enough for him.  Can Marco make her understand and see herself the way he sees her?

I loved Marco. He is hot yes but also sweet and kind.  And the way he took to her children will melt your heart. Lydia may be hard to like for some and I understand why but for me I thought she was an amazing heroine. There is so much more to her story and her past and knew because of that she was guarded.  She is so strong and an amazing mother who will protect her children no matter what.

They both had their issues and at times I questioned certain things they did.  In a way that I wasn’t sure if I would still feel the same about them.  I loved the bond they had as well as the connection. Marco made her feel things she has felt in so long and it was so nice to see.

What I always love about LD’s books is the angst fest that you know you will get hit are never truly prepared for. She has a way of ripping your heart out, stomping on it and somehow puts it all back together.  I mean she did manage to tune my hatred for one character into love!!  With all that said I will admit the middle of this book was a little slower than what I expected. But don’t worry the angst and stomach dropping moments do come.  Those intense feelings that you get, the moments where you wonder what will happen next, they are all there.  And since this is a series of course we stew left with a cliffhanger.  And I cannot wait to see what happens next.
