4 Star Review by Jen Skewes
Frozen Barriers is Sara Shirley’s debut novel and she did a great
job with it. I fell in love with the
characters. This is a wonderful love
story about learning to stand up for yourself and following your heart and your
dreams for yourself.
Jeremy Page has been playing hockey for as long as he can
remember. His dream is to play in the
NHL but right now he is happy to be playing in the minor leagues and at the
same time coaching and teaching the local kids.
He comes from a wonderful family.
When he was younger he bumped into Emily Cameron, a figure skater who was a
few years younger than him. At that moment he
knew she was someone that he wouldn’t forget, even if he never sew her again.
Emily Cameron is an America figure skater who has been
skating since she was a little girl. It
has been her parents dream for her to perform in the Olympics. Emily loves skating and had her own dreams of
what she wants to become. But someties
those dreams seem to get lost when you are doing it because of the pressure
from your parents. Her parents dictate
her life, when she practices, what interviews she goes on, what image she will
portray to the media. She has no real
friends and has never experienced the little things in life that most people
take for granted. Her life is skating.
And it is not so much that her parents want what’s best for her. For them it is all about image. They push her way too hard and for most of her
life Emily has done what they say. Until
she meets Jeremy Page, the man that will break through her barriers and help her to
follow her heart and her own dreams.
Jeremy and Emily met back when they were kids at the rink
and then again when they were teenagers in high school. For Jeremy he knew there was something special
about Emily. And to him she was the girl
that got away. Well now they meet again
through a mutual friend and Jeremy vows that he is not letting her go this
time. There is a connection between the two of them that is so obviously clear
to the both of them. But Emily is not
sure that she can give herself to Jeremy.
She cannot give him what he wants and needs. Between her parents, him traveling with his
team and her grueling schedule it just won’t work. But Jeremy is not giving up and he plans on
showing Emily how to live and how much they belong together.
This book was a really sweet and wonderful love story. Jeremy is just hot and sexy and so amazing in
every way. He cares for Emily so much
and shows her just how much. He gives
her so many first that she treasures.
But he also manages to get her to open herself up a little. He helps her to stand up for herself and
follow the dreams that she wants. For
all of Emily’s life she has done what her parents expected of her. And honestly I felt so bad for the way her
mother treated her. But at the same time
there comes a point where you just want to yell at Emily and tell her to put her
mother in her place. You want Emily to finally
live her life the way she wants to. And
at some point she does start to open up, does start to defend herself and what
she wants. And that has everything to do
with Jeremy. She sees how wonderful it
is to have a boyfriend who loves her, friends who care about her and Jeremy’s family
who treats her better than her parents ever did. But with their relationship still comes
struggles and they both need to work together to overcome those struggles. No matter what they may be
This is a fantastic story and one that I loved. There wasn’t much drama, or at least drama
that you would expect. It was simply a
love story about two people following their dreams, and in the process finding
a love that they never thought possible.
Excellent job by Ms. Shirley
“I’m more than shocked when Emily orders herself a Shipyard Pumpkinhead beer with a rim job. I glance at her completely engrossed in her boldness, when the most amazing words come of her mouth. “I don’t know about you Jeremy, but I just love licking off those rim jobs!” Time for me to readjust my cock again, thanks in part to my naughty little ice princess sitting next to me.” Something inside of me keeps telling me to fight for this girl. “Quit, just say the hell with it! Do what makes you happy for once. From the first time I knocked you on your ass when you were eleven at the Forum I knew you didn’t belong in that life.” “You don’t even know me Jeremy! Shit! I don’t even know me.” Emily exclaimed. “Emily, I want to get to know you. But you keep pushing me away If I’m going to go through hell and back again, at least it’s going to be her I’m doing it for. Call me crazy, but I’m going all in on this one, I just hope luck is on my side.” “You’ll have no problem getting to hell, you’ve seen her mother. That’s not going to be easy to get through, but for some reason I think you’ll handle her better than anyone. She’s totally not going to be into you for a status fuck. But, if you are going to go to battle for a girl, at least its one as smoking hot as Emily. Best of luck man, you‘re gonna need it, but I’ll have your back if you need me.” Standing up on my wobbly legs, I giggle. Why are my legs like rubber? I turn and my eyes run up the length of the guy standing in front of me. My eyes meet those intoxicating big brown eyes. “Oh Shit,” I whisper. That’s when I feel as though I’m falling and the last thing I remember were two warm, strong arms wrapped around my body. Staring at myself in the mirror, I see what I am. I’m just nothing but a commodity for my parents to use for their own self worth. I’m disgusted with myself for never putting up a fight, even once I was old enough to realize it. So, why is it when Jeremy asked me what I wanted to do with my life once my skating career was over, I froze up? A part of me saw that everything I’ve worked for in my life so far, is going to be gone soon and after that I’ve got nothing. What do I want to do? I’m talking to Dave about some random hockey play when his eyes go wide, spitting his beer from his mouth. “I need a minute, it’s just not right.” What the hell? I watch Dave walk away before turning in the direction he was just looking, I see what caused him to turn away. There’s my girlfriend in her naughty Alice in Wonderland costume on her knees, blindfolded with her hands bound behind her back. Then she starts bobbing her head and a million different thoughts are now running through my mind. Just the main one is enough for me to run my hands through my hair and start pacing the yard because the wrong head is working at the moment. Turning my back, while lifting my curled hair up I say over my shoulder, “Once you unzip this dress you can do whatever you want with me. Drink me. Eat me. Spank me. Fuck me. I don’t care just so long as you end up in me.” “You’re my everything. You’re my yesterday, today and my tomorrow. No matter where we are five years from now, you’re a part of my heart Jeremy Page.”
