Years of training are about to pay off for hockey player Nikola Vereshkova. A call to play in the big league means he can finally come through for those who need him. His relocation to Chicago comes with built-in friends – and one gorgeous enemy who was less than impressed with him after their first encounter.
Sadie Alexander knows all about the drastic measures men will take just to get laid. She’s not only experienced it first-hand, but lived to tell about it in her online column, Sadie Says. And even though she’s a die-hard independent woman on the outside, the recent marriage of her best friend has her secretly feeling more alone than ever.
Getting close to a foul-mouthed Russian hockey heartthrob was the last thing Sadie expected. And the timing couldn’t be worse since she’s sworn off of men for a writing assignment. The line between love and hate is eroding, and Niko and Sadie find themselves in deeper than they ever expected. Could something that started out wrong end up being just right?

4.5 Star Review by Jen Skewes
Drive is the fourth installment in the Fire on Ice series by
Brenda Rothert. This can be read as a
stand alone, but this series is just amazing and therefore I highly recommend that you
read all of them. This is Niko and
Sadie’s story, two people that we met in Edge.
I love this series. And yes I am
a complete sucker for a sexy hockey player both in the world of books and real
life but I just love the characters that Ms. Rothert creates. The males are just hot and sexy but at the
same time just loving and caring and all around the perfect guy. And Niko is no different.
When we first met Niko he was playing hockey in the minor
leagues, hoping to one day make it to the big leagues so he can help out his
family back in NY. Well his time has
come. He has been called up to play in
the NHL on the same team as Luke and Ryke.
Niko needs to concentrate on his game, to play hard so that he can
secure his position on the team. His
family needs him. Hockey and his family
are what matters to him the most. He has had his
share of women in the past and now that he is playing in the NHL he can
probably have any woman that he wants.
But right now Niko cannot afford any distractions. His mind is on his career and his
family. Oh and the woman that he met the
night of his friend’s rehearsal dinner.
Ever since he met Sadie he cannot get her out of his mind. She has suddenly become the distraction that
he didn't want or need.
Sadie is Dell’s best friend and has moved to Chicago to
continue writing her column and be Dell’s part time nanny. Sadie lost her whole family in a tragic
accident and has had issues with getting close to men. She knows all about the dating scene and
decides that she wants to write a column about what it is like to be man free
for sixty days. She knows she has no
problem being without a man for that long and she plans on sticking to her plan and writing about the experience. But
meeting Niko throws a wrench in said plan.
When she meets Niko she cannot deny the attraction. But their first meeting did not go so well
and Sadie swears no matter what that she will never give in to the sexy Russian
hockey player. Yeah, how long will that
last?
Niko is such a wonderful hero in this story. When first meeting him he seems like a jerk
but when you really get to know him you see what an amazing, caring and loving
man he really is. Seeing what he came
from and how much he wants to do right by his family will just melt your
heart. He sets out to prove to Sadie that
he is not the man she thought he was.
I loved Sadie and at times my heart broke for her. I felt what she went through and why she had
her reservations. They both had these
walls up but they also both managed to break the wall down that was between
them. Their were obstacles in their way
but they were both very strong individuals.
They formed a beautiful friendship that turned into more. There was a moment in which Niko needed Sadie
and her being there for him they way he needed her to be was so emotional and so real. I loved everything about
his story. They way it made me feel
inside. The chemistry between them was
evident but so was the feeling of love.
What I really loved about this book was that we got to see the
other couple that we love from this series, Ryke and Kate and Luke and Dell and
of course little Kyler. They are such a
great group of friends. You felt like
you were a part of their little circle.
I absolutley love this series and once again Brenda Rothert has managed
to capture my heart. And Niko will
completely melt yours. Another fantastic
job!
