Review: Checkmate: This is Love by Kennedy Fox
Viola Fisher is the epitome of perfection.
She despises my one-night stands and mocks my less-than-classy habits.
She’s smart, beautiful, and too good to be true.
And I want her.
If she were anyone else, I’d have made my move years ago, but considering she’s my best friend’s little sister, she’s always been off-limits. Not to mention how much she loathes my very existence.
Hating me is her religion, but needing her is mine. Her sexy curves and filthy smart mouth make me want her even more, and I’m more determined than ever to change her mind.
I’ll prove I’m done playing games.
But until then, we’ll continue to play by her rules.
Viola Fisher may have won the battle, but the war isn’t over yet.
Checkmate, princess.
4 Stars!
Review by Lisa Kane
When the first book ended, Viola Fisher and Travis King were having a relationship behind her brother Drew's back. Drew's girlfriend Mia Montgomery, broke up with him and he's been trying to deal with it. But then in a shocking twist, Travis is in a car accident and Mia was with him, naked in the back seat. Why were they together?
This is Love opens up with Travis being badly banged up and Viola still hasn't told Drew that she and Travis are together. (ruh ro, I have a feeling this is going to backfire at some point!) Viola is starting to have doubts about things, she thought Travis was being honest and upfront, but maybe she's wrong he's been fooling around with Mia the whole time.
In fact, until I know what happened between us this past week meant something, and where we stand, it may be better to pretend it never happened.
When Travis wakes up, he knows the shitstorm that he is about to face. Viola needs answers, but will Travis give them to her?
"Then just tell me, because the thought of you with someone else makes me sick."
Sometimes not telling someone all the details is lying by omission, and Travis is about to find that out. There's a lot going on in this book and more than a few twists. I love that this is told in both Travis and Viola's POV and I have to say Travis is adorable. This guy has been hung up on her since they were kids. He may have been a manwhore, but he never gave his heart. That has always belonged to Viola. But he's gonna have to work his butt off to keep her.
"No one else I've ever been with has made me feel the way you do. Ever. I've always reserved that part of myself for you."
Travis suffers from insecurities. His past never boosted his self esteem, and he knows that he's made some poor choices.
"I'd get bored being with a perfect guy. I'd rather have an imperfect relationship than a perfect one."
Viola drove me a little crazy in this story. She makes some choices of her own that made me want to hide her favorite nail polish. Come on girl...just hear the guy out!
"Are you seeing someone else?"
The next story is about Drew and Courtney, Viola's crazy best friend. I just know that witch Mia will be showing up to stir up trouble.
She took my heart with her, and I'm waiting for her to personally deliver it back to me. To this day, the only woman I want is the one who stole my heart-Viola Fisher.
