Release Date: January 17th, 2017

Synopsis:

New York Times bestseller Penelope Douglas introduces Quinn, younger sister to Jared, Madoc, and Jaxon, in the latest novella in the series that began with Jared and Tate in Bully...

Quinn Caruthers has several problems.

Her father, Jason, and her three older brothers, Jared, Madoc, and Jaxon.

Under the close watch of the men in her family, Quinn has found it nearly impossible to spread her wings—or even date—without them jumping in to hover. And when a family friend—several years older—from her childhood captures her heart, she knows they’re going to be a problem. Lucas Morrow is a man—experienced, sophisticated, and important. And knowing her brothers, he may as well be forbidden.

But Lucas left town years ago and shows no signs of returning. Quinn knows she shouldn’t wait for him anymore.

But then a package turns up on her doorstep with no return address and its contents reveal family secrets that threaten to turn Quinn’s world upside down. She’s never asked about the tumultuous path of her parents’ romantic history, but she soon learns their happy marriage had a very rocky and passionate start.

As she begins to see things around her with new eyes, Quinn will have to make tough choices about whether she’ll keep waiting…or finally go after what she really wants.

5 Fantastic Stars!
Review by Lisa Kane

I think if I was able to move to a fictional location-it would be Fall Away Lane I haven't just read this series, I've devoured it. I love the flawed characters, the raw emotions, the regrets and mistakes and scars. So getting the chance to read about the next generation just feeds my appetite for more.

Next to Never is as much a story about Jason and Katherine Caruthers as it is a little insight into Quinn's life. Yes, Lucas still has a place in Quinn's heart, but she is living her life and trying to find out who she is at this moment. High school graduation is right around the corner and college starts in the fall. She has never heard from Lucas and so she can only presume that he has forgotten about her and doesn't care.

Lucas is the mystery character-the one whose story we don't know but need. We know he left to work overseas, but years have gone by. Is he married, is he planning on coming home? I guess he has to at some point, otherwise how can he and Quinn eventually get together...they are going to get together aren't they?

And here I am, nearly thirty, and still alone, burying myself in my work.

I haven't changed at all.

Of course with Quinn comes the rest of the kids. Fallon and Madoc's boys are fiercely competitive. Kade is out going and popular and treats Dylan like she is a love sick puppy following him. Hunter worships her from afar and longs to escape the shadow his brother casts. Dylan, Tate and Jared's daughter is following in her parents' footsteps with her love for racing. They encourage her it's no surprise she's fearless and talented. Hawke, Juliet and Jax's only child, has a bit of a swagger about him-he's not shy around girls and he's a chip off the old block. This crew just may top their parent's when it comes to stunts and shenanigans.
But Next to Never is a story within a story. Quinn has received a book in the mail and the characters are all too familiar. The book revolved around Kat and Jase and their forbidden love affair that they kept hidden for sixteen years. It's full of passion and heartbreak and regret.

"Because seeing you today was when I realized that I couldn't hurt you anymore, I admitted. "You're stronger, and maybe-just maybe-I won't be bad for you. Maybe I don't have to feel so ashamed for what I did to you and force myself to stay away."

Their story filled in so many holes I've had about them-how did their affair last so long, why did he never marry her, how could he marry his second wife instead of Jared's mom. So many questions and so many answers. You cannot read their story without your eyes getting wet a few times. Two people so in love making so many mistakes. Love found, love lost, love found again.

"I'm miserable," I told her. "Seeing you today hit me like a truck. Every day I spend without you, I'm miserable. And maybe it's what I deserve, but I'm so sorry I never gave you what you needed. I'm sorry I treated you so badly for so long."

Next to Never isn't meant to do anything more than give a delicious look into the next generation of the Fall Away crew. It might have given me closure for Katherine and Jason's story, but I am so looking forward to the stories yet to come about these characters. Sometimes series just go on too long. The stories are no longer fresh, the interest wanes and they should have faded away a while ago. Not this series-each character holds such interest and has so much to tell us. Keep writing them, Ms. Douglas and I will keep devouring them!

There's a prologue that Penelope had to delete from the book and she was kind enough to share it with all of us on her website. If you want to read it, and I highly recommend that that you do, you can check it out here.
