We were first introduced to Leah in “When You’re Ready” as the quick-witted best friend to Clare.  “Never Been Ready” is Leah’s story.  Leah didn’t have an easy childhood.  At the age of 7 she was left with her father after her mother walked out.  Her father has never shown Leah an ounce of love and always blames her for his wife leaving and claims that Leah has been ungrateful for her upbringing.  It should be mentioned that her father is an alcoholic, not grateful for Leah coming once a week to bring him groceries, and on occasion has used Leah’s face to release his pent-up aggression.  Leah was involved in a serious relationship, but when she was devoted to Clare during her best friend’s time of need, he walked away.  Leah is probably the most selfless person you will meet.  She always puts others before herself.  She is full of compassion and kindness. 

Declan was also introduced to us in “When You’re Ready.”  He is a movie-star friend to Logan.  He was burnt by love 8 years ago and since then has developed a one-time only connection with women.

“Repeat performances in one night were fine, encouraged even, but I never, ever returned for seconds.  That made them think you had feelings, and I didn’t.”

 Leah and Declan had one of those nights 6 months ago when Declan came to town to visit Logan.  But ever since that night neither of them can get the other one out their heads. 

“For six months, I’d moped around, thinking about that night, unable to move on.” 

Declan is back in town and things begin to heat up between the sheets again with Declan and Leah.  Neither of them were looking for love, but when you least expect it that’s when it sneaks up on you. 

It was the first time I’d acknowledged those feelings and said the words.  It felt good.  Like really good.  I wanted to do cartwheels…  Declan

Things are moving along very well between Declan and Leah.  Their lives are blending together nicely and about 60% I thought to myself this is just too happy…something has to happen.  And BAM!  I was correct.   Leah discovers something that could change their lives.  And being selfless Leah, she is right by Declan’s side never once giving a thought as to how this would effect her life.  Both of them have questions about what their future now holds…

Ms. Berg has a way with her words that bring out the inner most emotions of the reader.  I was entranced with Logan and Clare’s journey in “When You’re Ready” and she pulled on my heart strings again with Declan and Leah.
