Kissing Fire Blog Tour *Interview * Review * Giveaway *

Our Interview with Avery & Preston

"This is it, Tres Chicas," Kristie says, getting out of the car. Lisa looks up and says, "It is fitting, don't you think?" "Three Chicks... I love it." We walk in and see that Preston and Avery are waiting for us at a table located in the corner. They stand to greet us as we head their way. "I'm Kristie and this is Lisa and Jen. It's so nice to finally meet you two," Jen says looking around."This place is cute and the town is beautiful, I really like Colorado." We get settled into our seats and Lisa asks, "Are you ready to start?" Preston and Avery nod their heads in agreement. "Alright, let's begin!"

Three Chicks: Avery, how is your relationship with your mother these days?

Avery~I won’t lie...it could be better. She’s not happy with anything I do so I’m doing my own thing and hoping she’ll come around. Besides, I have other things that occupy my mind these days to worry much about her.  *winks*

Three Chicks: Preston, why didn’t you seek help after the traumatic things that happened to you while being undercover?(All three chicks lean forward with a looks of awe, concern and curiosity on their faces )

Preston: That’s a good question. But you know how stubborn men can be. I just figured I’d work out my issues on my own. I had this problem about opening up and even talking about it at all, so the last thing I wanted to do was to discuss it with some stranger. Burying it deep inside of me was my way of handling it.  Pretty smart, huh? My thought process on this wasn’t the most ideal, you might say

Three Chicks: Avery, have you always been self-conscious about your body or was this brought on by your mother? (Jen pipes in stating "You really shouldn't be you are gorgeous girl!")

Avery: When I was young, I was a lot smaller and I didn’t gain weight until a few years ago. When that happened, my mother’s critical skills kicked into overdrive. She always criticized me about my looks and actions in her attempts to create the perfect daughter, but after the weight gain, it increased exponentially. I was always self-conscious about my appearance because of her, but when I added the extra poundage, well, you can imagine what that was like being around her.

Three Chicks: Preston, we get why you did what you did with Avery but you could have prevented this whole thing. Why go to such an extreme to get to know her, why not just do the “normal” dating thing? She was obviously willing to get to know you. (Kristie whispers absentmindedly, "I wouldn't mind hiding out with him" then her eyes pop wide open and she is immediately red, Lisa, Jen, Avery and Preston are all laughing.. "Crap I said that out loud huh?" Jen and Lisa nodding their head yes while trying to catch their breath. )

Preston: because I’m so fucked up...Oh, excuse me. Was I not supposed to say that on here? Sorry. Anyway, for the first time in my life, I’d found someone who I could trust with all my dark secrets, who I could let behind my concrete walls and who I could even allow to touch me...you can’t imagine what that felt like. But then the fear of losing her hit me. So my stupid mind thought--what if she loved me, would she still want to leave me? I know, in retrospect when I think about it, I’m like--what the hell Preston? What were you thinking? It still makes me sick to think about how much I hurt her.

Three Chicks: Avery, at what moment did you fall in love with Preston?

Avery: *Snickers* Honestly, I think it was when he saw my magic wand and said he liked all the attachments. Right then I knew I could love him. But I had this thing about wanting to grab his ass. Then after that incident where I nearly pawed him to death, I thought I’d ruined any chance at all with him.

(Lisa giggles and says "I have to say, that was hilarious and Just Miles or umm Preston, kudos for not making it an even more embarrassing situation." Lisa and Preston fist bump and Kristie looks over at him and gives him a wink while Jen is trying hard to hold her laugh in but fails miserably and all we can make out is something about the attachments)

Preston: Little did she know I was doing my best not to maul her right back!

Three Chicks: Preston, what was it about Avery that made you want to get close to her? What does she mean to you?

Preston, well hell, look at her! I mean, she’s the most gorgeous thing I’ve ever seen. She literally blew me away the first time I laid eyes on her. And why did I want to get close to her? I’m not sure I can tell you in this interview, because it involves something very intimate and I think it might be quite inappropriate.  What I can tell you is she made me feel so damn good about myself. As far as what she means to me...let’s just say everything in the world and we’ll leave it at that. (All three chicks sigh)

Three Chicks: Avery, what was going through your mind when you realized that you had been shot?

Avery: Oh God. At first I wasn’t sure what happened. I felt this searing pain in my side, but then I knew. My first thought was that I was gonna die out there. My second one was that I needed to keep going so I didn’t risk Preston’s life. If he knew I’d been shot, he would’ve made me stop and then we would’ve been sitting ducks. Weirdly enough, I got this adrenaline surge, and I guess it was because of the danger we were in, but I just kept on going. When we finally got to Minturn, I knew I had to keep up the pretense until we made it back to Vail, and luckily it all worked out.

Three Chicks: Preston, why couldn’t you accept that Avery loves EVERYTHING about you, the good, the bad, the ugly?

Preston: Because when you’ve been in the places I’ve been and experienced what I have, you don’t love yourself, so how can you ever expect someone else to? It all goes back to what you asked me at the beginning and that was I should’ve gotten help. I kept it all bottled up inside and it wasn’t good. It created a self-loathing that made me believe I wasn’t worth loving.

Three Chicks: Avery, have you decided on what business you are going to open up here?

Avery: Yes! And I’m psyched. I’m going to do consulting for the local resorts in seeking new properties they are interested in acquiring. They can range from hotels to restaurants to other ski areas.

Three Chicks: Preston, what are you doing for work these days? Are you done working for the DEA?

Preston: I swore to Avery no more DEA so that part of my life is over. I haven’t decided what I’m going to do yet, but she’s trying to get me to go to law school, of all things!

Three Chicks Both: Where do you see yourselves in 5 years?

Avery: I hope we’ll be here working and happy and skiing!

Peston: I’ll be happy wherever Avery is happy!

Three Chicks Both: Have you met the parents? If so, how did it go?

Avery: Not yet! We have a trip planned to Charleston in September. So we’ll get to do that then.  I expect there’ll be some fireworks going off.

Preston: Only if your mother starts them.

Three Chicks: Preston, what did you learn from your time apart from each other?

Preston: That we don’t ever want to be apart from each other again! *reaches for her hand*

Three Chicks Both: Favorite moment so far?

Preston: Oh, that’s easy. That was the night I...

Avery: Preston, don’t you dare tell them that!

Preston: *laughs* I was just kidding honey! In all honesty, it was the night she said she’d marry me.

Avery: I would have to agree.

Three Chicks Both: Favorite part of Avery/Preston?

( They both simultaneously respond)

Preston: Her ass! *Laughs*

Avery: His ass! *Giggles* His piercings! *winks*

Preston: Oh yeah, she does have a thing about my piercings. Um, yeah...*squirms in seat*  (Kristie, Lisa and Jen all look at each and blush)

Jen stands up and says, "Preston and Avery, you have been through so much together. Your relationship is definitely inspiring." Lisa nods in agreement and says, "Yes, and thank you so much for meeting us here today, it's very much appreciated." Kristie gives Avery a huge hug then turns to Preston and gives him a hug as well.  While keeping one of her arms around his neck and wrapping her free arm around Avery's neck  she excitedly states, "You two are awesome, thank you again and have fun with the wedding planning." Jen rushes to the door and turns around and asks us all,  "So are we all ready to hit the slopes?"

Our 4 Star review

On the outside, Avery Middleton would appear to have it all. She comes from a wealthy family with connections; she is beautiful, smart and completely miserable. Her mother is continuously on her case about her looks, how she dresses, who she should date and her weight. Her social life is pathetically non-existent. Her best friend is a sumo wrestler in training who has crazy plans for her.  She needs a change and there is nothing really keeping her in Charleston. When an amazing opportunity is offered to her she takes it without any hesitation. After all this is her chance to reinvent her-self in Seattle. She also has the opportunity to visit with her estranged brother. *Insertdroolworthyhotnessonastick*here and get ready for the fireworks

Boy oh boy, was Just Miles hot. Messy dark brown, slightly wavy hair that was not long but not short either. And, oh what a mouth he had. It made me want to jump on board and ride that train for life.

Preston Mitchell is a sexy drop dead gorgeous undercover DEA agent. Leading a life of instability and danger so being able to have a normal relationship is not a possibility. He is very closed off, has never opened himself up to anyone.  With the demons haunting him he feels unworthy ... that is until Avery comes into his life. *insertbeauitfullyfunnyandclumsywomen*here and start fanning yourself off

Just Miles, she called me. She could call me anything and I’d answer to it. Damn, she was really something. How could fate have intervened so cruelly? Now she would haunt my life forever.

Things seem to be going well for Avery and her new adventure. She has her dream job; she and her brother are getting along great. She loves his wife and has an insane attraction to their friend.  She also senses that they are keeping something from her. One day Avery stumbles upon something she shouldn’t have seen and she finds herself running for her life. Protected by the captivating DEA agent Preston she finds herself falling head over heels for him. *insert heart melting sexy moments and heart ache*

“I can’t be a part of this. I can’t sanction this. If you go, you go on your own. Without me in your life. You choose. Me or them.”

For the first time in his life, Preston world has been rocked and he finds himself happy for the first time ever. Their relationship will be put to the ultimate test of danger, deception and lies. *Let the sexy crazy ride begin*

“I want us to be forever. For always. Never apart again. Because Avery I don’t want to just exist. I want to feel alive every day with you by my side...”

This story immediately pulled me in. Preston is hotness on a stick and Avery is an in the closet sex kitten. Preston, my heart ached so badly for him. He is so damaged and haunted by his job that is he struggles to find happiness and to believe that he can be and deserves to be happy. Then you have Avery who mother is not only selfish but has made Avery so self- conscious of her body and the things so does that Avery feels like she will never be good enough, pretty enough for anything or anyone.

This story has it all, suspense, action, HOT & Steamy romance, sadness, angst and laughter. The characters are strong and independent. You can relate to some of their issues. This is the third novel from The Edge series. You do not have to read the first two stories in order to understand what happens in this story.

A.M Hargrove wrote herself a winner with this one!  It was a fantastic read that kept me captivated throughout the entire book. A job fantastically done!

About the author

One day, on her way home from work as a sales manager, A. M. Hargrove, realized her life was on fast forward and if she didn't do something soon, it would quickly be too late to write that work of fiction she had been dreaming of her whole life.  So, she rolled down the passenger window of her fabulous (not) company car and tossed out her leather briefcase.  Luckily, the pedestrian in the direct line of fire was a dodgeball pro and had über quick reflexes enabling him to avoid getting bashed in the head.  Feeling a tad guilty about the near miss, A. M. made a speedy turn down a deserted side street before tossing her crummy, outdated piece-of-you-know-what lap top out the window.   She breathed a liberating sigh of relief, picked up her cell phone and hit #4 on her speed dial.

Boss:  Hello

A.M.:  Boss, is that you?

Boss:  Why yes, A. M., who else would be answering my phone?

A.M.:  Er... right.  Well, I'm calling to let you know you can pick up my luxury Ford Focus at Starbucks near the interstate.

Boss:  Why ever would I want to do that?

A.M.:  Because I quit!

A.M. hit the end button and speed dialed her husband.

A.M.:  Hi hubs, can you pick me up at Starbucks?

Hubs:  Sure... Having some car trouble?

A.M.:  Not at all.  I don't have a car to have trouble with because I just quit my job.

Hubs:  WHAT?!

A.M.:  It's time for a new career and I am going to be a very famous novelist.

So began A. M. Hargrove's career as a YA/NA and Adult Romance writer! Her books include Kissing Fire, Edge of Disaster, Shattered Edge, the series the Guardians of Vesturon (Survival, Resurrection, Determinant, Beginnings and the upcoming reEmergent) and Dark Waltz.
