Review: Word Play by Amalie Silver

Smut sells.

Michael Rourke learned this the hard way.

Struggling to make ends meet as a mystery writer, he sold his soul - and his pride - as he pedaled sex and lust writing under the pen name Christoph Strong.

No one knew he was the one behind the steamy stories on the bestsellers lists. And he planned to keep it that way.

Until he met her.

Monica Singer, an infamous blogger, is keen to discover the truth of his secret identity.

During a chance meeting at a book convention, Michael and Monica form an instant connection. And soon, an industry rivalry becomes something else entirely.

But as Michael starts to let his guard down, he doesn’t realize that the person he's learning to trust may be hiding secrets of her own.

Secrets that could ultimately destroy everything.

I la-la-loved this book! I have been made into an author stalker of Amalie Silver. She has written such a quirky different story than what I have been reading, and I am so thankful. It was hilarious and super insightful into the minds of the author world. I wanted more and more of this story that's for sure.

It starts off with a writer of mystery novels; who isn't  quite making it, so he decides to try his hand at erotica, and boy does he navigate the waters of this genre swimmingly. But in order to protect his identity as a mystery writer, he must create a new persona- Christoph Strong. He tells Armond and Jasmine's story, and the romance world automatically thinks this Christoph is equal to Armond, and they immediately start falling for him! He is super insistent that his two personas stay separate. No photos, or personal information leaked, and he makes that crystal clear to his agent.

Every time Christoph has a book come out, it is best seller- but always gets knocked off the top spot by Betty Black- another fantastic erotica writer, and he starts his immediate dislike for the woman.

In between the chapters are blog posts- super clever, funny and witty- from Monica's Musings. They showcase interviews with certain types of readers- it is really hilarious.

Everything comes to culmination when a book signing occurs, and his agent leaks a photo of Christoph,  and it has all the ladies swooning- or smeeping, whichever you prefer. He has to dress and act the part of this erotica author. When he touches down at the airport- he is swarmed. I mean can you blame them- he's that steamy in person, they all want a piece of him. When he gets to the signing, he quite literally runs into an equally attractive woman, who claims she is Monica, from Monica's Musings- the infamous blog site. They have instant chemistry and are drawn to one another. But each is keeping their secrets from the other.

And considering they are romance authors, I knew I was in for some awesome romance, and I was not disappointed. Their chemistry is off the charts sexy, and their "word play" (no pun intended) is fantastic, the back and forth between them is great. She has her own insecurities; and I found her really easy to relate to. And when it came time they both had their secrets they had to reveal.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and would not hesitate to recommend this to my book group, in fact I already did. Amalie has made a fan for life in me!
