Introducing book 2 in the new Checkmate Duet Series from a secret duo of romance authors who teamed up under the USA Today Bestselling pseudonym, Kennedy Fox! This friends to lovers romance will have you swooning and laughing from the first to the last page! Are you ready to play the game?
Courtney Bishop is as sugary sweet as her famous blueberry muffins.

Southern belle at heart, Cali girl by choice.

She barged into my life and easily became my best friend.
All was great as roommates and just friends, but then I fell for the girl who could chop firewood, deliver baby calves, and bail hay without breaking a sweat.

She’s the perfect mixture of sugar and spice, and I love her.
Being more than friends and trying to build our future isn’t as easy as it sounds.

Moving forward and creating memories is all I want for us, but when the past continues to come back and haunt me, I’m not so sure she’ll stay for the ride.
Loving her is easy, but losing her will break me. Burning passion combined with an undeniable chemistry constantly pushes and pulls us together. In the end, I’ll prove we’re worth the fight, even when the game is far from over.
Checkmate, sweetheart.
*Recommend for ages 18+ due to sexual content and adult language.*
**This is book 2 in the Checkmate Duet Series–a friends to lovers romance. You must read book 1, Checkmate: This is Reckless first. Highly recommended to read the Checkmate Duet, This is War and This is Love first, but not necessary. This can read as a standalone duet.**

Review by Lisa Kane

Checkmate: This is Reckless ended on a huge cliffy. This is Effortless picks up at the same spot. Drew Fisher and Courtney Bishop are in Vegas enjoying a little escape from all the crap going on around them. Only it seems to have followed them. Drew wakes up and under the covers paying him a little unwanted attention is Mia Montgomery-his crazy ex. Mia is up to some dangerous tricks and Drew has more to worry about than how he is going to explain to Courtney his oral escapades from Mia.

“Drew Fisher!” she spits in my face. “I was the best thing that ever happened to you!” I laugh, bobbing my head. “I can’t tell whether you’re just that full of yourself and delirious or if you truly have a mental health concern.”

This is one of those reviews that are difficult to write because just about everything in a spoiler. I’ve read this whole series, and this book is more of a suspense than a simple romance. Mia has set actions into play that will affect Courtney and Drew’s lives. There’s a lot for them to deal with and the pressure is only mounting. Will they cave under all that stress? Their relationship has been rocky since the start-will Courtney decide she’s had enough and needs a break from the drama?

“We’re going to get through this,” I reassure her. “I know things have been rough lately, but there’s nothing I wouldn’t do to protect you.”

Meanwhile I loved the glimpses we got into Travis and Viola. There’s a total push/pull thing going on between Drew’s friend Logan and Courtney’s friend Kayla. (their story is next and I can’t wait-Logan is hiding a huge part of his life from everyone and I need that mystery solved!)

“He’s mysterious all right,” Kayla pouts. “Mysterious and confusing and has split-personality disorder.”

One of the things I like about this series is the introduction of the secondary characters-they’re woven into the canvass and then suddenly you want more of their story. I haven’t found myself bored yet from any of these books-up until now each couple’s story has bene a duet; the first ending on a cliff hanger. But the time in between installments is more than bearable and the stories remain fresh and unique.

No matter how much time we spend together, it never feels like enough.
