When Mr. President ended, Matt Hamilton had just won the presidential election, making him the youngest president of the United States. For Charlotte Wells, his victory was bittersweet. All their hard work had paid off, the country would be in the best hands possible, but it was time for her to bow out. She was a distraction Matt just couldn’t afford. Ever since his father’s assassination, he has been determined to lead the country in a better path and also to extract justice against his father’s unknown murderer. So she left for Europe. 

I wasn’t in the United States, the country I love, close to the man I love, simply because I needed to heal.

It’s a couple of months later, and Charlotte has returned in time for Matt’s inauguration. He has kept tabs on her the whole time. He bitterly regrets letting her slip away. But now that she is back in town, he’s not letting her go again. He made sure she received an invitation to one of the celebratory balls. He’s betting she won’t be able to stay away. He would be right.
