Leah likes anonymous one night stands. Do the deed, and make sure you leave in the morning. She doesn’t see this as a problem, but her last visitor cleaned out the furniture and everything else not nailed down in the apartment she shares with Helena thinks she has a problem, and since Leah can’t afford to live on her own, Helena gives her an ultimatum-get into sex therapy or get out. Twenty weeks later and she has stuck with the Heal the Heart Save the Body sessions. Her motivation is her need for a place to live. Helena is her only friend (by choice-she has issues and couldn’t care less how others see her) and has no other resources. Her parents were once wealthy but made some poor financial decisions and live in a once beautiful vacation estate that is great need of repair. She has a young brother, Elijah, who she has practically raised. Her
parents never wanted him and allowed Leah to bargain that she would take care of him (like a child would negotiate with a parent to get a pet). She literally has had responsibility for him since she was 12 years old. She wants him to live with her but her parents worry how that would look to the snobbish friends.

Will is a junior at university studying psychology. He is a research student under the direction of James, an eccentric professor. His current case study is to observe and note the behavior of a sex therapy counseling sessions. He pretends to be an addict in order to observe the group to ascertain if these sessions for this anonymous group really work. His parents have a tendency to mooch off of him (even though he is a struggling student). Will is a good guy. These two have an instant attraction, which is not the best idea in this setting. Did I mention Will is from Scotland and holy Bagpipes is he hot!!

“The guy probably couldn’t walk a block without having panties thrown at his head.”

His best friend Finn is hung up on a theatre student that hates him. Finn lacks a filter when it comes to how much info to let out. Leah works on web design at the same university and their three paths cross. That same attraction spills over and Will and Leah have a hard time (no pun intended) keeping their hands off each other. Until Finn and his should wear a muzzle mouth ruins everything.

The cast of characters, especially those that are part of the therapy group are hilarious. Leah has a name for each of them and each earns the title at every session.

‘Packers Cap finally finished with something about a hot dog, a football, and a multipurpose foam cheesehead. The counselor looked ill. Stilettos was snickering. Old Lady had probably fallen asleep the moment her turn had finished.’

Can two people so different and so wary of opening themselves up to heartache have a relationship? Underlying the serious issues in this book is the humor. Brennan has a way with words and turning each situation into an opportunity for laughter. I really enjoyed this one.
