“I need a reason to exist.”
Beautiful, intelligent, independent, strong-willed, wealthy—Lilith Fontenot seems by all appearances, to have it all. But that’s not how the highest paid prostitute in New Orleans sees herself.
A stain on society. A scourge. A waste. Outsider. Prisoner…
Any idyllic dream of the normal life she may have once imagined, Lilith buried long ago. Her only plan now is survival.
But mob boss Nico Santelli and community center owner Soti Christos have not given up on Lilith. Each has his own very specific, very opposing, plans for her, and neither will rest until it becomes a reality.
WHORE is a singularly bracing take on an ancient tale of tireless love, betrayal, and the possibility of redemption.

I take a sudden deep breath and my breasts brush against his chest. The contact surprises us both. I do it again, intentionally this time, trying to gain control in the only way I know how. His neck flushes and he takes a step back. I enjoy the rush it gives me, knowing that I affect him too.

“Hey, would you like to come around the corner with me to—”

I swallow my surprise and shake my head, holding my hand up before he says anything else.

“Please,” he says louder.

“What’s your name?”

“I am Sotirios … Soti.”

“Soti, what makes you think you know anything about me?”

He tries to make eye contact, but I focus on a spot just past his left ear.

“I just want to help you…” His words trail off.

The wind blows my hair forward, a sheet of black coming between us until I smooth the long strands down on either side. I gaze down the street and see a blurry little girl with black hair down to her waist in middle school, standing shy and hopeful in front of a group of girls.

“We know what you are,” they said. They hurled spit and names on her and she stood there, taking it, until the teacher came and helped her.

Help only got me so far.

“You listen to me, okay?” I say so softly he leans in to hear me. “I was born for this.”

When my eyes finally land on his again, I know his face will haunt me forever. He looks as bleak as I feel.

I clear my throat. “Now, if you’ll excuse us.”

With that, I loop my hand through the arm of my next income source, calculating how I can get the most money out of him for the least amount of time. It takes every ounce of willpower I own to not look Soti’s way one more time. Once we round the corner and I know he’s out of sight, all the adrenaline leaves my body, and I’m actually glad to have someone to hold onto.

I avoid my reflection as we walk back to the house. I don’t want to know what the rest of the world sees when they look at me.

About SHELTER:

His life is chaos and confusion. It’s a storm of uncertainty and raging emotion.

Sutton Warner is a mess. Everything in his life feels like it’s unraveling.

He’s let a lot of people down lately, including his daughter. Sutton always promised his little girl he would never disappoint her and that he would always be there when she needed him. Until he wasn’t.

The truth is, he’s used to disappointing the women in his life. First was his mother who couldn’t find a reason to stick around when he was growing up. Then there’s his ex. The woman who takes unbridled delight in making his life incredibly complicated. Luckily, his daughter is still young enough to believe her old man is some kind of hero. But, he knows the day is coming when she realizes the truth, that he’s just a man with some serious flaws and a list of ever-growing weaknesses.

Finally, there’s the woman he’s desperately trying to forget with every shot tossed back and each pill popped.

He more than disappointed Emrys…he almost got her killed.

Her love is steady and sure. It’s a shelter shaped by conviction and silent assurance.

Emrys Santos is lost. Everything in her life feels pointless and futile.

She’s been busy running away from her feelings and all the people who love her the most—including her best friend, the one person who knows exactly what she’s been through. They promised to always stick together and to lean on one another. It was a promise Em had to break so she could lick her wounds and figure out her next move. For once, there is no easy way out of the tangled web of emotions she’s caught up in, and right now, she recognizes that all roads lead back to Wyoming…and back to Sutton.

The man she nearly got killed.

Shelter is a standalone novel, the second book in the Getaway series, which features the hardheaded and brokenhearted Warner brothers and the women who dare to love them. These boys are very good at putting the wild in wilderness.

4 stars
Review by Trinette Dungee

Cy Warner is the older Warner brother. He’s protective, no nonsense and headstrong. People fear and respect him. Lane is the youngest Warner brother. He’s laid back, easy going and always with a smile. He’s the one people like to talk to. Then there’s Sutton. He the classic middle child, he goes with the flow, makes the best of whatever situation is thrown his way. Basically he tries to keep everyone happy, he’s ultimate people pleaser.

Lately, Sutton Warner is far from the people pleaser. As a matter of fact, he’s about the most disagreeable, obnoxious and rude Warner the likes of Wyoming has ever seen and he most definitely is not making the best of the situation that’s been thrown his way. In fact, he’s making a big mess of it. In his defense, he’s had a rough few months. He’s been shot and left for dead, his ex is using his weakness to her advantage, his little girl is seeing him in a way he never wanted her to and the women he almost died saving  and who he sent away is stuck in his mind as a constant reminder of how he failed to keep her safe. Now she’s back in town and she’s made it clear she’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

Emrys Santos is a fixer. Yep, she likes to fix people (men specifically) and send them on their way. She’s never lets anyone get too close, except for her best friend Leo. When she decided to help Leo work through a rough breakup things, took a turn she would have never seen coming. The vacation with Leo to the Warner ranch turned into them being caught in the middle of a drug war, and she and Sutton being tortured and with Sutton Warner almost dying trying to defend her. Although they had a rough experience there was an undeniable spark between them but when Sutton pulls through he sends her away basically crushing her. Em leaves to heal her own wounds and scars both visible and invisible.

Although there have been bad guys vs. the good guys story lines in other series by Jay Crownover, this was really different, specifically this book. There was something about this book that made me feel like it was more than just a storyline. Specifically when Sutton and Em describe how they saw themselves. It wasn’t just a story being told, it was almost like it was someone’s story being told.  Although these two characters lived totally different lives, they were so very similar. It’s like they were mirror images of each other. They had matching scars on the inside and outside. They both struggled with who they were. They weren’t really being true to themselves; they were living for what others wanted or thought of them; not for whom they truly were. In fact, neither really knew who they actually were. I don’t always read the author’s notes but this time I did and when I did I totally understood why I felt the way I did.
I liked this book a lot; it had a lot to the things I love. A single dad, family oriented, male sensitivity, inner struggle, heartache, heartbreak; I loved all of the characters, most of who were introduced in the first book in the series “Retreat”.  It gave characters beyond the three brothers with the possibility of their own storyline.  I’m anxious to read Lane’s story and I’m very curious if we’ll get a story for Ten and Webb. I’m even wondering if there’s something in the works for Rodie. What I also liked about this book was the realization that Sutton and Em came to about themselves. I can’t really say what that is because it would give away somethings I think you’d appreciate more if you read them for yourself.

This is book two in the “Getaway” Series. I actually hadn’t read retreat so I cheated and listened to the audio book before reading “Shelter”. I highly recommend reading the first book. Although “Shelter” starts off with a background of what happened in “Retreat” there are some other aspects of that book that help with this one.

Another solid hit for Jay Crownover.

EXCERPT:

I’d been fooled once by the promise of quiet nights and serene days in the sunshine. I believed the brochure when it said I could leave my worries at home and escape to a simpler, quieter kind of life. I let myself be lured in by the picturesque landscape and stunning mountains. I foolishly fell prey to the temptation of leaving my current set of troubles behind in San Francisco while I hid away in the middle-of-nowhere Wyoming.

I now knew firsthand the glossy brochure that brought me to Wyoming the first time was nothing more than a bunch of pretty, packaged lies. I knew the bar brawl erupting in front of me was hardly the worst thing that could happen here. In fact, the level of bloodshed and violence was child’s play compared to what I’d witnessed the last time I’d stepped foot in this small, quaint town. Well, I hadn’t really been in Sheridan last time I was here. I’d spent most of my time in the backwoods that surrounded the Warner brothers’ ranch, which was still a good forty-five minutes outside of this tiny town. The ranch was where I was currently trying to get to so I could see my best friend.

When I left Wyoming, I told myself I would never come back.

Ever.

I told myself there was nothing here for me but bad memories and heartache. I was a pro at lying to myself, at telling myself exactly what I needed to hear to justify my actions. I could convince myself of anything, like it was okay that my last boyfriend stole my grandmother’s silver when I kicked him out because he needed it more than I did. I had no problem believing that pulling Leo out of the city was the only way to heal her broken heart even though she didn’t want to go. It was easier to distract her than it was to watch her wallow. I persuaded myself into believing what I needed to heal was space and solitude. I held onto that until time passed and I was still a mess. I was sick of my own company and of hiding from everything I was feeling. I was the one who always went out of my way to fix everyone else around me, it wasn’t exactly a shock to learn I didn’t have the skills to repair myself. I spent my days helping others focus on their goals, on doing better and achieving more, so I didn’t have to think about the lack of any ambition of my own. I turned thirty at the end of the year and I was still trying to figure out what and who I wanted to be when I grew up. I’d been aimless for a long time; the only direction in my life come from the fact I knew all the way down to my bones that I had to go back to Wyoming and face off with Sutton Warner.

Release Blitz: Take 2 On Love by Torrie Robles

I fell in love with Heath James when I was seventeen years old. Looking in from the outside, it seems like we have it all. A home we love, careers we both wanted, kids we adore. Now years later...I’m not so sure.
He used to look at me like I was everything he ever wanted–everything he needed and more. Now in our forties, it’s like he doesn’t see me at all.
Life happens.
Careers take off
Kids get busy
Couples grow apart
Walking away… Taking a break, was the hardest decision I’d ever made.
I’ve heard it said that you should never look back, life is always moving forward. To keep the past in the past. But what if I was wrong and my past has always been my future?

Is it too late for me to right my wrong?

Torrie Robles was born and raised in the Central Valley of California; a perfect spot in the state since she’s only hours away from the coast, the beautiful mountains and the big named cities. She currently lives a short distance from her hometown of Clovis, in a small community known as The Madera Ranchos. She’s married and has three children, two boys and one girl. She also has seven animals that live with her family on their property. She’s a city girl living in the country, but not too far from the hustle and bustle of the life, she grew up knowing.

Torrie obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, but her passion has always been writing.  A dream she felt was always out of her reach, until she was introduced to the Indie Community.  2015 marked the year she became a self-published author. She writes contemporary romance and plans to branch out as her career takes off. She is currently working on several different manuscripts. She hopes to have them all finished and published throughout her career while continuing to develop new stories and characters to fall in love with.

When she isn't working a full-time job, writing, raising her children or just taking care of life, Torrie's biggest hobby is getting lost in books. Her passion for reading and the authors she looks up to has allowed her to make her dreams come true. Her fellow authors have truly been her inspiration.

Review by Lisa Kane

Team Player

I love anthologies-there’s usually so many that if one just doesn’t isn’t for you, you’re bound to connect with a few others.

LJ Shen’s The End Zone is a friends to lovers romance. Jolie Louis is hot shot quarterback Gabe Poirier’s best friend. She opened up her heart and her life to him ten years ago when he moved next door. It didn’t take long for her to realize he lived with an abusive, alcoholic father. She was his rescuer and they remained each other’s person. She might secretly want more with him, but Gabe is a major player on and off the team and she’s not looking to get her heart broken, yet alone complicate things with their friendship when it all goes wrong.

This author is a fav of mine and this one held my attention. There was some drama at the end that seemed to be rushed and out of place, considering Gabe was so in love with Jolie. That plot seemed out of place and awkward but overall it’s still a solid 4 star read for me.

Rochelle Paige is up next with a hockey romance- Slapped Into Love.

Ryan Forrester plays hockey alongside characters from previous books by Ms. Paige. He had a one night stand several months ago that has ruined him for any off the ice activity with the more than willing puck bunnies that surround him. But considering he didn't get any contact info on his bedmate, he's out of luck. Or so he thinks. Turns out the new skating coach hired to improve the team's skating speed is Tamara Antonov, an Olympic gold medalist. Seeing Ryan again, throws Tamara off balance too. But Ryan isn't about to lose his chance to see if the two of them can work out of the bedroom.

Full Court Press
Kennedy Ryan’s story takes a bad boy basketball player, Decker and a female reporter, Avery who had a brief encounter with each other. Their story is one of lost opportunity and what if’s.
Ten years after they first met their lives intersect again. Decker is now divorced and Avery’s long-term relationship is over. Both have regrets and wonder if they missed out on something special together. Both are struggling with the changes that being single have brought to their lives.
3.5 stars

Ella Fox’s Out of Formation is a stepbrother romance. Elena is a senior in college and is a star cheerleader. Her coach has just been let go and her stepbrother Colin Findlay is temporarily taking on the job. Elena’s fell for him years ago, in spite of the ten-year difference between them. When she was a kid, he was patient with her-she knew she was much too young for him then. But now she’s an adult, and it seems Colin just may return her feelings. This is a fun, steamy read with a story line that flies by and will leave you wanting more!
4 stars

Kate’s Stewart’s Sweeping the Series is one of my favs! Ren is a hotshot ball player and Erica is the woman who has ruined him for any other relationship. It’s a couple of years after they broke up and Ren is out of control. He has anger issues and is a total manwhore. The team needs to shut him down before he brings the team down with him. Erica’s PR company has assigned him as her new client. She doesn’t want to see him again but if she wants to keep her job. Sparks fly, both are resentful of the other and neither one wants to admit that the feelings they once had are still very much present.
This story had such depth and angst and reading both POV’s let me know exactly what was in both minds. They’ve made such mistakes and are so afraid to trust their hearts to the other again. What a fantastic story this turned out to be!

Mandi Beck has been an avid reader all of her life. A deep love for books always had her jotting down little stories on napkins, notebooks, and her hand. As an adult she was further submerged into the book world through book clubs and the epicness of social media. It was then that she graduated to writing her stories on her phone and then finally on a proper computer.

Emma Scott:
I write romances with flawed characters, characters with artistic hearts: builders, poets, and writers of various makes and models. I love to write book lovers; those who have found refuge, companionship, and escape in books, much as we do in real life. I like realism, honesty, authenticity in storytelling. I love to write about enduring love, soul-deep love, in as real a setting as I can make, but with big smooshy HEAs. I believe in diversity, open-mindedness, and inclusion. I like sweetness mixed with steam, love conquering all, and above all, hope. Love always wins.
