What can I say other than K.Bromberg has done it
again!! She has given us a swoon worthy
hero, a strong, yet broken heroine and a story that will give you all the
feels. One minute you find yourself
laughing and the next this book is tugging on your heart strings. Cuffed is a beautiful story about learning to
trust again, a sweet friendship between
a boy and a girl, and overcoming your past.
It is an epic friends to lovers story.
Grant and Emerson were friends when they were kids. They were best friends who were always
together. One day while in the third
grade Grant and Em made a pinky promise, but Grant broke that promise along
with any trust she had for him. She
hated him in that moment and swore that she would never forgive him and will
hate him forever. Very strong words for
an 8 year old but even at that young age she felt the betrayal by her best
friend. Grant did what he thought was
best. He wanted to save her, be her friend
and hero, but in the end it meant losing her.
It has been twenty years since he has seen Emerson, but has
thought of her over the years. He is
shocked when he runs into her again, not realizing she was even back in
town. All those feelings he had as a young
boy come back to him. He has always
carried the guilt around for not being able to save her. He lost her once and doesn’t plan on doing
it again. But Emerson hasn’t forgotten
those feelings either, still being unable to trust the man that betrayed her
when he was just a young boy. As a young
girl she was let down by two people who were supposed to love her and for those
reasons she has a hard time trusting people and opening up. She has her walls up and she is adamant that no one will be able to break them. Not even
Grant Malone!! But he is in no way
giving up on her or them.
Grant is one of those heroes that is completely sexy, and
swoon worthy but has a huge heart. He
has basically planted himself in her life, wanting that second chance to be
friends. All though he wants more he
knows that with her past and trust issues he has to tread lightly. But at the same time he becomes a constant in
her life, basically making her angry and frustrating the heck out of her, which
is what I loved. I loved the banter between
them, the back and forth between them that will make you laugh. I loved how much he wanted to protect her,
love her, and break down her walls.
There was a little more to this story and Grant than him
just wanting Emerson in his life. Grant
is a cop and there is one particular art of this story that you see just what
an amazing and caring man he really is.
How he will go above and beyond the call of duty to protect and save
someone, no matter what the risk. It
just made me love him even more.
Emerson was a strong heroine who was also very independent,
which she made known to Grant many times.
But it is her back story, that we see at times through the past, that
will get you. This girl has been through
so much at such a young age and when you see through flashbacks or dreams, what
she went through your heart just breaks for her. She tries so hard to keep the past where it
belongs, to be able to live in the now, but over time you see how it slowly
breaks her and at those moments you want to hold her and tell her is will all
be ok. Grant coming back in her life may
have triggered some of her past, but at the same time it also in a way saved
her. Because what she felt when she was
with him is something that she has not felt in years.
I loved this story and even more than that I loved the
characters. Emerson and Grant were just
so perfect together. He pushed and
pushed and at times she ran, but in the end they were both exactly where they
were supposed to be. Cuffed will make
you laugh, swoon, break your heart but in the end will leave you with a happy
feeling inside. The writing was
flawless, the story was beautiful and the characters, you will adore. This
is the first in a new series by Ms. Bromberg and I am looking forward to the
next one.
