Review: How it Rolls by Lila Felix

Our 4 star review

How it Rolls is the second book in the Love and Skate Series.  I loved the first one and could not wait for Falcon's story and Lila Felix definitely didn't disappoint.

Falcon Black has the appearance of a bad boy.  He has a mohawk, tattoos, and a pierced tongue, but in reality he is not even close to the image that he portrays.  He is sweet, caring, charming and a caretaker by nature.   He has always been the care taker of the family, protecting his brothers and he still plays that roll.  When he isn't in school he spends his time at his mother's diner or Nellie's book store taking care of their finances. He is not your typical college student who spends his free time partying and living it up.  He has a great family and a wonderful relationship with his sister-in-law Nellie.  While he may seem content,  he is missing that spark in his life, until he meets Reed.

Reed is a beautiful, orange haired, 18 year old girl who is homeless and doing everything she can to survive.  She lost her parents at a young age and has been through her share of foster homes.  She works for Nellie at the  book store and when Falcon sees her for the first time he is completely taken aback by her.
They start off as friends and work their way into something more.  They starting falling for each other, but Reed keeps the fact that she is homeless a secret.  When Falcon finds out about her living situation, from someone other than Reed, he vows to do everything he can to help her and make her happy.  He has fallen in love with her and wants to be the one to take care of her, without letting on that he knows her secret.  But is it possible to help someone too much that you start to push them away?  When he steps over the line just a bit will he risk losing the girl he loves?

I love Falcon and Reed together.  Falcon is definitely hot and charming, but it is his sweet side and his huge heart that draws you in.  Reed has been in and our of foster home most of her life that she forgot what is was like to be loved and cared for.  Falcon has managed to bring her out of her shell and show her what it means to  love someone. And if Falcon's love isn't enough, of course the Black family accepts Reed as one of their own and loves her just the same.

How it Rolls is a wonderful, light, heart warming story of two young adults finding love.  I love how Lila writes in alternating point of views, which helps the reader connect and understand the characters.  Nellie and Owen's happily ever after continues in this story, which I enjoyed.  It was so nice to see the close relationship that Falcon has with his sister-in-law.  I loved the 80's references and the little paragraphs that started each chapter, sometimes funny and quirky or sometimes a little sad, but they added a nice touch to each chapter.  This book will make you laugh, smile, and break your heart a little,  but will also warm it as well.  Definitely a must read.  Make sure you read Love and Skate first, as that is Owen and Nellie's story.  I love Lila Felix's writing and cannot wait for the next book in this series, Down N' Derby.
