Summary:
Ashton Garrison walked away from a privileged life in order to hide
from the one thing she's not willing to face. She knows she left behind a trail
of pain, but in the long run, her betrayal will hurt less than the truth. She
now has one goal: Live life to the fullest with no regrets and no attachments.
She has high hopes that a move to new surroundings will provide the escape she
desires, but what Ashton doesn't count on is how fate always seems to find a way
to screw up any good plan. Sometimes, when love comes knocking, the pull is too
strong not to answer. Suddenly, what she thought she wanted to escape from is
what Ashton now wants more than anything.
Nathan Lockton has one mission: find his target and complete the
task he was hired to do—no attachments and no emotion necessary. He's done it
over and over again. What he thought was a typical lost-and-found job has turned
into a life examining moment as Nathan is forced to deal with something he has
always ignored--his feelings. Now faced with a decision, Nathan must choose to
either follow his heart or complete the job.
Love can come when you least expect it. The question is: If the
odds are stacked against you, how far are you willing to go for the one you
love?
Our 4.5 star review
Ashton Garrison has left her privileged life behind and those she loved in order to escape the one thing that she is not ready to face. She has a plan and a list and every intention of moving forward with both. Her plan is to live life to the fullest, and complete all the items on her list that she has always wanted to do, but never had the guts to. She now lives in the small town of Woodfalls where everyone knows everyone and she seems to fit right in. The next task on her list to tackle? Find a hot guy to have an amazing, no strings attached, one night stand with. She has no plans of getting attached and certainly does not expect to give her heart away to someone. Sounds simple enough, right? Well, not exactly, because sometimes in life things don't always go according to plan. Sometimes what life has to offer is not what you wanted or expected. For Ashton Garrison, her plan to live life with no attachments, slowly faded away when she met Nathan Lockton, the man that would change her life.
Nathan Lockton has a job to do and he has every intention of completing that job and moving onto the next one. He is to find his target and return her to his boss. This is his job, one that he has always been very good at. And with his job comes rules, never get attached and certainly never get involved emotionally. His new target is Ashton Garrison, and upon their first meeting he can't deny the instant connection between the two of them. He has the sudden urge to forget his rules and get to know her. He wants to know everything about her, find out why she left her home and her privileged life behind. But he knows that getting close to her will mean breaking the rules and when it comes to his job, rules aren't meant to be broken, or are they?
I loved Nathan and Ashton together from the moment they met. There was an instant connection between them, that as the reader you felt immediately. And while Ashton approached him looking for nothing more than someone to spend the night with, you knew that it would turn into more. Nathan is only in town for a few weeks so they agree to a sexual relationship with no attachments, because in their minds that is all they wanted. But I think deep down they knew that it was so much more than that. The connection that they share is much deeper than sex and there is certainly no denying the chemistry between the two of them. Ashton and Nathan start falling for each other in ways they never expected. But they both have a secret that if revealed could ruin the time they have together. Nathan's secret was a little more obvious to me than Asthon's was. When her secret was revealed, I honestly did not see it coming, and trust me it hit me hard. I would love to tell you all about them, but you will just have to read and experience the ride for yourself.
This was the first book that I have read by Tiffany King and I loved it. Nathan is hot and sweet and romantic, even though most of the dates he planned for the two of them turned into some sort for disaster. I loved the character of Ashton, she has been through a lot in her life and managed to pull through it all. But now she is faced with another tough decision in life and for once just wants to live in the moment. She is such a likeable character and has a clumsiness to her that I loved and will make you laugh. The flirty sexual banter between the two of them will make you smile and fall in love with them. I loved her BFF Tressa who brought a little bit of comedy and craziness to Asthon's life, but in a good way. Her boss Fran was the only one who knew her secret and cared for her as if she was her own daughter.
This book will make you laugh but there are also moments where your heart is aching for both Ashton and Nathan and you just want to jump in and hug them and tell them it will be ok. Tiffany King has done an amazing job with this beautiful, heart warming story. It was one of those books that I could not put down and one that brought out a lot of emotions. Any book that can warm my heart, make me laugh, break my heart and cause me to ugly cry, only to piece my heart back together again, is definitely a book worth reading. You will not be disappointed. This may have been my first book by Tiffany King but it certainly will not be my last. I loved it and only wish I could have more of Nathan and Ashton (hint, hint).
